WX4QZ:
I had to fast overnight until 3 hours
before the net, due to blood work to check
for rheumatoid arthritis. I went ahead and
got the flu shot, and decided just to
microwave something here, instead of ordering
out. Even though I didn't feel like cooking,
I didn't want to wait on the food, either. At
least I don't have to go out the rest of the
week. I think all my medical stuff for the
year is done, except for maybe a 3rd Covid-19
booster in early November.
It's dry as a bone here, with high fire danger,
and burn bans all over the place. According to
the GFS, we might get rain in about 2 weeks...
how much, and if there's severe weather potential
(we're into our fall severe weather season here)
remains to be seen. It'll slowly warm during the
week, and may get near 90 on Thursday, but then
it may not get out of the 60s on Saturday. At
least we didn't get the damage from Ian...the "I"
storms are the most retired, and it appears Ian
will join the list.
This weekend is my state square dance festival in
Clinton in north central Arkansas, but health and
finances won't let me attend. The arthritis in
the left hip and knee have been real bad lately,
making it very hard to walk. It's cheaper and
easier to just work behind the scenes. Had it
been somewhere in central Arkansas, I might have
gone...but it's at least a 2 hour drive to Clinton,
and you can't just drop what you're doing, and
come home in the event of an emergency. Plus, the
dry corneas are still giving me vision issues...so
driving for me is finished; and that may include
going to hamfests.
I had to cancel one of my Lyft rides last week...
the driver had a high ground clearance pickup truck,
and I couldn't step into it. He might as well have
had a dump truck or an 18 wheeler. At least I was
able to get a replacement ride. It helps if the
vehicles have a large step and a grab bar.
I'm to do a license exam session a week from this
Saturday...the last one my group will do for the
year. I've got 2 candidates so far...a father and
son coming for their Technician license. The college
ham radio club faculty advisor will provide
transportation for me. We just do 4 exam sessions
per year. With the General Class Question Pool
changing next year, it'll be interesting to see how
much interest there is in testing.
While still just over a month away, the first Sunday
in November means the time change back to Standard
Time; but the time for this and most other nets won't
change. We will take off Nov. 21 for Thanksgiving
Week, and Dec. 26 and Jan. 2 off for Christmas and
New Years. I heard there's supposedly a bill that
would make DST the norm a year from now...we'll see.
That was the hardest part for me on those net list
spreadsheets, with the time changes.
The Google Home thought there was a sound of glass
breaking here...but it must've been something on a
YouTube video. Technology, phooey.

GE All!
The week was busy with work and visiting. I'm not
sure I turned the HF on for more than 15 minutes
this week.
The coming week will be better. I think.
It has been cool and rainy here - I think we
caught the edge of Ian. My yard now looks like
a hayfield - I mowed the front tonight - the rest
will get done tomorrow.
I bet that was Jackie was excited with that win!

Good evening Daryl and all on the net.
Last week was my week for medical stuff to happen.
Doctor's appointments, blood tests, ultrasound...
Doctor has referred me to a urologist, don't know
when that will happen, or what they will put me
through...
However, I'm still doing my daily bike rides (when
it's dry), and attending the usual radio club breakfast
and coffee sessions. I finished my aviation headset
interface, and it works!
I assisted the new ham in Balfour with her end fed
mods, and did the usual mow the lawn thing...
Yesterday we went to our Daughter's in Nelson for
dinner, and got a grandkid fix.
Got a knock on the door yesterday, a new ham in the
area moved into the RV park next door to our complex,
spotted my antennas and had to drop by and say hi. He
offered me a bunch of coax, and of course I accepted.
I scored 3 x 90 ft runs of terminated RG-213 and another
90 ft run of RG8X, and a couple more 45 ft runs of RG8x.
I mentioned it on the net today, and I already have a
home for one 90 ft run of the RG-213.
Also, Arlene and I will be heading to Vancouver for a
week for our Thanksgiving (next Monday), so I'll miss
this net, we'll be back next Wednesday.

Back in Oklahoma Wagoner area south of Tulsa.
Girl friend getting medical appointments this week and
last week.
She lived in this area years ago and doctors and family
and friends nearby.
Rick FB on that cable, word get around should go quickly.
Scott, that was precious hearing your wife scream when
she won top prize at Joplin hamfest Saturday.
Easy to tell where she was located. You need to get a
matching rig!
Just received W5YI VE certification in mail last week.
Prefer ARRL VE program and did that many years in Texas
but locals Kimberling City do W5YI, so can help when they
need it.
Oh, about lack of rain, watching Tulsa weather tv and
nearly all of Oklahoma 30 days or more less than .25 inch
of rain, few places many more days. Really dry here.
Lot, thank you for checking in to our net today. Hope you

GE Everyone. She won a yaesu FTDX-10.
It was my first ham fest. Had a good time even without
Jackie winning the grandprize. Actually the yaesu is
out of stock so it will be the end of the month before
she actually gets it. Which will give me some time to
get a power supply and antenna setup
Jackie screamed like the price is right when they say
come on down.
I would like to say to Charlie. I finally recognized you
about the time Jackie screamed. By the time things had
settled down. I couldn't find you in the crowd.

First time checking in the Packet Net.
Just want to report that we are again building the Packet
network in the Philippines after 25 long years of absence.
It's a bit of a challenge but we are getting a few steps
forward. :) We now have 4 packet BBS in 3 regions.

Bob, just too much going on. Thanks for providing the BBS
for us.
Rick, bummer on the medical stuff, but fine business on
the ham gear and the grandkids fix. Have a good holiday
next week. The Canadians get theirs out of the way early,
and the US gets left with table scraps (hi hi). We'll see
you in 2 weeks.
Charley, GL to your GF with the medical issues. I had
applied to W5YI VEC, but they rejected me as I was "a
no code Extra". So, I just work with ARRL/VEC instead.
We might see some rain here in 2 weeks...the fall colors
are going to be a dud...we have high fire danger and
burn bans all over the place.
Scott, congratulations to Miss Jackie on winning the
grand prize. The biggest things I won at a hamfest
were a Baofeng HT, and a Tornado Warning radio (which
was different from the regular NOAA Weather Radio).

We're here every Tuesday at 0000 UTC when the US is
on Daylight Savings Time, but that becomes 0100 UTC
Tuesday from the 1st Sunday in November to the 2nd
Sunday in March. As noted, if US President Biden
signs this bill, once we go to Daylight Savings Time
next March, we'll stay there. We do take off the
weeks for the US Easter, Memorial Day, Independence
Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New
Years holidays.
