WX4QZ:

The Arkansas State Fair arrived in Little Rock
last Friday, and the weather decided on Saturday
to be as flashy as the rides. Widespread severe
storms with 1 to 2 inch diameter hail developed
across the region, along with widespread rain.
Some areas got quite a bit...so much so, that
it lowered the fire danger from extreme statewide,
to extreme in south Arkansas, and high elsewhere;
with some down to moderate in the Arkansas River
Valley. Freeze Warnings and Frost Advisories cover
the region, especially Tuesday night and Wednesday
morning. If Little Rock drops to freezing or below,
it'll beat the record for the earliest freeze on
record, by one day. Folks with plants, flowers, and
agricultural interests are not happy; but it's the
changing of the seasons. Our next chance of storms
is next Monday, so I may miss the net next week.
I'll email NS2B if that's the case. I have no plans
to go to the Fair, and haven't gone in years.

I did a ham radio license exam session on Saturday;
a father and son came up from south Arkansas to
take their Technician exam. The father got his
Tech (aced it), but "blew the General"...yet he
got what he came for. His son's work schedule
kept him from studying as much as he wanted to,
and he was close on passing twice...he'll try
again later. I took Lyft to the Post Office today
to mail the paperwork back to ARRL/VEC, after
scanning it all in, and emailing them a PDF file
that they got this morning. We likely won't test
again until early March. The carrying deal I had
for the supplies failed (the handle broke from all
the items). At least I had a spare case for the
items, so I didn't have to buy another one. A
fellow VE told of him doing remote and in person
testing, but there's too many logistics involved
for remote testing; so I'll stick with in person.

In my other hobby, square dancing, just like
it was a year ago...folks complained about my
job of editing the publication, especially the
e-Edition. Last year, when I separated the
photos from the Fall Festival, folks had a fit
for having to download multiple files (and having
multiple files takes up more space). So, this
year, I combined it...folks complained about it
being too large. They want to have their cake,
and eat it, too...and you can't have it both
ways. We have 12 active square dance clubs, but
are averaging only 4 club reports. Then, they
complain that the publication is too small. I
can't force them to write or send in stuff, but
I guess it'll take several tiny issues for them
to do something. Some people are never happy.

I did see a video on YouTube where Danny Harmon
and his wife, Liz (he does Distant Signal
Productions, lots of great railroad videos),
gave an update...they survived Hurricane Ian
where they were (Tampa), but areas further south
look like a war zone, and likely will for some
time...some folks lost everything, and the death
toll is over 100. And, there's still 6 weeks left
in hurricane season. I hate to see what winter
will be like.

I'll take Lyft out next week to go early vote.
I'll refrain from my political views here, but
suffice it to say, I'll be home on Nov. 8. I'm
afraid like spoiled brat kids, the losing side
will throw a major temper tantrum, with the
vandalism, etc.

After Tennessee beat Alabama in football Saturday
night, fans tore down the goalposts, and threw
them in the Tennessee River. Well, TU got fined
$100,000 by the NCAA (2nd violation, next one of
storming the field, etc. nets a $250,000 fine),
and it'll cost at least $150,000 to replace the
goalposts, or they can't play a home football game
any more this year (I saw they've raised half of
that so far). TU is also a tobacco free campus, but
folks were lighting up stogies all over the stadium
after the win. Those on the Alabama side threw their
deals in the trash, but it had been 16 years since
Tennessee had beaten Alabama. That's why I love
collegiate sports...so much more exciting.

New version of RMS Express for Winlink just
released, downloaded, and installed. I only
check that once a week.

NS2B:

GE All!!

I finally got a "final" real retirement date -
December 9 - my boss is happy with that. So,
so we're going with it.

People are never happy - you make one group happy -
the other side complains - doesn't matter if it's
square dancing or politics - it's all the same!

I didn't hear that about TU and Alabama! But I
don't follow college football. I barely follow pro
football! Speaking of which my Chiefs got beat by
the Bills - I was at a Bills "tailgate" party - it
was really in a garage - and I had to behave myself
or I would've gotten beaten up by the Bills fans!
Was a fun time anyway.

Not much happening on the radio front - 20m packet
has been good the last few days.

KF5JRV:

GE Everyone. We had a good week. Spent the weekend
out at the cain in the wilds of Arkansas. We
picked peppers, tomatoes and gourds this afternoon.
Looks like the growing season is done this year.

Starting to figure out the yaesu ft10. A lot to learn
there.

VA7RBP:

Sorry, had a phone call from VE7ASS Jerome, with BPQ
related questions. He's switching over from JNOS.
I'll call him back after the net.

anyway...Good evening Daryl and all on the net.

Yes, the vacation trip to the coast was good!

Thanksgiving was very quiet, our Son and the Grandkids
were working, and Daughter-In-Law was away on a trip,
so it was just Arlene and I. But we did visit with
several of our friends that we had not seen since
before COVID, and were able to have a couple of nice
dinners with them.

I also visited with Jerome...mentioned above... and
had a good chat, and picked up several big air
variable caps, a roller inductor, and a nice vibroflex
bug. Now studying code...

The caps and inductor will be for a project I have in
mind...sort of...

On the trip back home, we encountered two forest fires
near the highway, probably dry conditions.

Still have to see a urologist and another Doctor for
back pain, but so far so good.

Getting ready for Winter now. Snow tires are on,
sprinkler system is shut down and lines blown out,
gutters cleaned. Snow has not fallen on the mountain
tops yet, so we had one of the guys up there doing
some last minute programming changes on the repeater
controller today. IT will probably be the last time
until next July.

Temps here have been down to 37F at night, but still
getting to 75F during the day. Rain going to start
any time now.

Bob, FB on the retirement. Even in church or ham
radio or something else; some folks are never happy.

I hope you got some free food at the tailgate party
(hi hi).

I've heard that 10m has been open quite a bit lately.

I'll advise if storms keep me QRT next week.

Scott, hope you can get a good harvest of crops. The
new rigs are so hard to learn, it's pathetic.

Rick, GL on the health front...been there, done that
with the kidney stones...definitely no fun. FB on
helping the other ham with BPQ, as well as the
Thanksgiving activities...glad you got through the
smoke from the fires OK.
