Bob is out on Pumpkin Patch Patrol tonight...I
guess he's trying to find the most sincere
pumpkin patch for Linus; at least he doesn't
owe Sally restitution (hi hi).
This coming Sunday is the time change back to
Standard Time, but the time for this net, and
most others won't change; check with the various
net control stations for the net time status.
The extra hour of sleep will be nice, but it'll
get darker earlier. That might be a thing of the
past come this time next year, if a bill pending
in Congress gets signed after the midterms. Also,
the holiday season is coming up, so we won't meet
on Nov. 21, Dec. 26, or Jan. 2; so, Dec. 19 will
be our last net for 2022.
Rain and storms occurred here Friday night into
Sunday, and the rain was much needed. The fire
danger is still high to extreme over much of
the region, though. Temperatures have been in
the 60s and 70s for highs, and in the 40s for
lows, still seasonable for this time of year. I
won't go out again until Nov. 3, due to funds.
With the drought lately, the fall foliage has
been a dud.
I got my Field Stocked package of exam supplies
from ARRL/VEC, but won't test again until spring.
The General Class Question Pool changes next July
1, but I have no idea how much of it will change.
I had applied to vote absentee with the midterm
elections, but had requested the ballot over 1 1/2
weeks ago. Since I wouldn't be able to get out again
until Nov. 3 (as noted earlier), I went to early
vote last Thursday. Yet, they would only let me
vote "provisional", because while they'd received
my request for absentee voting on Oct. 20, as of
today (1 1/2 weeks after the request was emailed),
I still had NOT received the stuff in the mail. If
it does ever arrive, I'll just shred it. It's
ridiculous, taking over a week to get mail delivered
that originates locally. I'll bet the Post Office
lost it...and they wonder why folks are going to
UPS, FedEx, DHL, and email.

Good evening Daryl.
The week went by too fast, felt like I didn't get
anything accomplished.
I took apart my IC-756PROIII to try and find the
distortion culprit. I had a plan, but found that
the main board in my radio did not match the one
in the suggested fix doc., so I just gave it a
look see, cleaned out some cob webs, and then
re-assembled it.
In the process of putting everything back together
I found a busted wire on the cable between the LDG
Autotuner and the radio, and another busted wire
in the antenna switch.
I fixed those problems and the radio seems to be
working ok now, it only distorts when I crank up
the power.
I probably have to install a longer coax on the
end fed for a better match...kinda too late now
that the wet weather has started up.
Also, I have been playing with ALE400 a bit, on
Multipsk...at least trying to figure it out.
And I have been working on my CW....long way to
go yet.
That's the gist of my week. No trick or treaters
for us tonight as we are in a pretty secluded
area, in an over 55 complex with no kids in the
area.

Just returned from Georgia trip about 1 am
Saturday morning.
Leaving to Mexico this Wednesday, drive to
Florida, then fly to Cancun, so not much ham
stuff, playing bit with WSPR. Only will take
ht on road to Florida.
About 3.5 inches rain local reported by local
ham Alvin kb0ofc.
n0lvg at Kimberling City just across lake
expecting 300 or more trick-or-treaters.
He spends about $500 on candy, has halloween
display deluxe with sound to short range FM
broadcast radio.
Does up big also for Christmas lights.
Hope Mr Bob ok.

Rick, I have my outside lights off as well. Couldn't
afford candy, plus the caffeine in the chocolate sets
my heart racing. A ham out in Big Spring, Texas has a
big holiday lights display (he does it for several
holidays a year), and had over 200 pounds of candy to
give away. Talk about a pimple proliferation, sugar
rush, and caffeine high (hi hi). FB on the rig and
the modes. The rain of late has lowered our fire
danger and burn bans, but it's still there.
Charley, potential Hurricane Lisa is heading for
portions of central America this week...hopefully,
it will go south of you. You are the world traveler!!
Have a safe trip -- FB on the WSPR. On the lights,
that ham sounds like the one I mentioned in Big Spring,
Texas.
Bob is doing pumpkin patch patrol for the kiddies
tonight...he'll be back next week.
