WX4QZ:

First off, I hope the US hams had a good
Thanksgiving. I was cannibalistic, eating
2 black forest ham sandwiches (hi hi). I'm
stretching out the food until I can order
some later this week. Since we were QRT for
Thanksgiving, I have a lot to talk about, but
that's nothing unusual...because first, they
couldn't get me to talk. Now, they can't get
me to shut up (hi hi).

A reminder that the final PCL Net for 2022
will be on Monday, Dec. 19 -- we'll be QRT
for Christmas and New Year's weeks, with
the two Mondays of Dec. 26 and Jan. 2,
respectively. Our first net in 2023 will
be on Jan. 9. With my eating very little,
with just 1 meal a day, I have lost some
weight...but once my disability check gets
in the bank on Friday, I plan to splurge
with a Grubhub delivery. It'd be nice if
they would give me that 8.7% COLA increase
in December, but I may have to wait until
January.

The National Weather Service Little Rock
Doppler Radar upgrade and 2 week downtime
is being delayed until Wednesday, due to
a significant severe weather threat from
Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday. While
the Little Rock area isn't out of the
woods (some severe weather, including a
tornado threat, is expected), a regional
tornado outbreak is expected across much
of the Arklamiss and Midsouth regions,
either side of the Mississippi River...
from the Kentucky/Tennessee line to east
of Alexandria, Louisiana...with the risk
of long track, strong to violent tornadoes.
It looks like rain here Friday through
Monday...but the fire danger is finally
back to low, statewide...with no burn bans.

I figured out how to use those Wal-Mart
gift cards...but I had to dig through
their website to find out that I had to
first go to My Account -> Wallet to enter
them. I'm waiting until after the severe
storms on Tuesday, to be sure I still have
power and internet. Right now, if I were
to lose power, I wouldn't be able to do my
nets, but I would not lose much food. At
least Sears will give me up to $100 value,
if I lose any food from power outages...
but I hope I won't need to do that option.
The gift cards will basically allow me to
order around $175 of food, plus the $10 for
delivery, since I don't drive or have a car
anymore. As you know, you can't buy as much
as you used to, grocery wise...as an
editorial cartoon I saw earlier today noted;
"I'm on the Bidenflation Diet...I only eat
what I can afford"...and with the meager
disability payment I get each month, that
isn't much.

I lost power briefly during the QCWA Sunflower
Net on Saturday...but my UPS units kept both
computers up. I quickly switched to my cell
phone with Echolink link app, so I was only
QRT for a short time. This net offers several
connections via Allstar, DMR, D-Star, Echolink,
Fusion, Hamshack Hotline, M17, P25, and TGIF.
Since my Netlogger timeout was set to 30 minutes,
I didn't have the net closed by the server...
and was able to close it in a timely manner.
I hope the storms won't zap my power tomorrow.

As noted last week, the QCWA 6 meter net is
based around Hickville, New York, with connections
also on Echolink and AllStar. Bob (NY), I'm not
sure how far Hickville is from Penfield. With the
death last week of the brother of Net Control,
Brian, K2VSN, the net Tuesday night, Nov. 29, is
canceled.

Besides the QCWA Sunflower Net on Saturday morning,
I also do the QCWA CQ100 Net on Friday morning,
and the QCWA Digital Net on Sunday afternoon...and
just joined QCWA Chapter 79 in Wichita, Kansas...to
go with QCWA Chapter 85, in Shreveport, Louisiana.
The only requirement to join QCWA is that you were
first licensed anytime in 1997 or earlier (that
becomes 1998 or earlier on Jan. 1), and you are
currently licensed -- details at qcwa.org

I'm switching Medicare insurance providers on
Jan. 1, from Wellcare Allwell Arkansas to United
Health Care. I'll get more benefits, plus a less
expensive co-pay on specialist visits. All of my
medical stuff for 2022 is completed, except for
any unforseen emergencies (which I hope don't
exist...I have enough health issues already)...
and don't want or need any further stress...even
though "stressed" spelled backwards is "desserts"
(hi hi).

VA7RBP:

Good evening Daryl and all on the net.

Had an interesting couple of weeks...this past
week, we had two Grandkid birthdays, my Brother
in Law passed away, one of the local hams here
slipped on his front steps, and banged himself
up pretty bad, so he's in hospital for at least
a week. He laid on the ground in the snow for
quite a while before someone finally came along.

It's snowing here, temp is 26F, with a low of
16F tonight and our accumulated snow is only
about two inches, so far.

Arlene is having to deal with her Brother's
estate...no will, no executor. And she has a
crazy sister that headed for the bank as soon
as she heard, to try and get at his $$$.
Fortunately, she couldn't get at it.

Looks like Arlene will have to apply to the
courts to be administrator, then finalize his
affairs, and then there's probate....waiting
game...

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!! Sounds
like Bob had so much turkey he was late tonight...

Congratulations on your upcoming retirement, Bob!

I was going to go into the Brother-in-Law thing a
bit more, but I'm pretty sure folks don't want
those details.

The ham that slipped on his stairs... I usually
call on the radio when I'm starting my drive to
Nelson. He usually answers me right off, and I
pick him up, and give him ride to the coffee
place (pub).

I got no response from him, during the trip to
Nelson. I got to his place, and banged on the
door, no response. The door was open, so I called
out..no response. Went in to check on him...not
there. His canes were by the door.

By this time, I was having thoughts similar to the
Brother in Law scenario, where he was found
several days after the fact.

Anyway...One of the other hams checked the hospital,
and found him there, so at least a good ending...
whew!

NS2B:

GE All!

Well not really for this evening - I was just
distracted.

I was looking for hotel rooms at Hotel Pennsylvania
in NYC, and as best as I can tell, I think they're
closed for renovations! So, I guess I'll need to
find a different favorite spot!

Hicksville is out on Long Island - about 6 1/2 hours
from here.

It's sad when family members pass on that the crazy
family members appear - I think it happens in just
about every family.

So, I flew out to Minneapolis last week to spend the
first part of the Thanksgiving week with my oldest
son - then flew back here to finish up with my
youngest son. I had to go back to work today to rest!

Speaking of work - retirement coming soon - Dec 9th!
I'm ready!

And speaking of falling and hurting yourself - I
didn't fall - but I was at the rifle range week before
last, and there's this low overhang you have to walk
under to get out to the targets - I wasn't paying
attention and walked smack into it - knocked myself
out for a couple seconds - I'm paranoid about that
now!!

NT5R:

GE everyone, yes back to Branson yesterday late about
10 pm

Had awesome time, left November 2, returned yesterday,
15 days in Mexico, then visited nephew/brother in
Georgia few days on return

Sounds like Bob is doing some heavy duty travel.

Re probate problems, assume similar in Canada to US.
No will, much more complicated

Friend in Tulsa few years back took care of retired
firefighter. No family in area, and never heard from
any other family. When he died, long distance family
suddenly appeared, although only one in the group
had visited him about 30 minutes in total many years.

Sad, but happens too often.

Daryl, the nets you do sound interesting. The one net
of yours I checked in to was a good net

Not officially belong to QCWA, but first licensed in
1977, so guess I'm eligible.

Also changing insurance before December 7 (cutoff date
to change in US). Seldom visit doctor, but really like
the one I visit, and want to keep her. So will change
to carrier that covers that clinic. Choice of three,
so will study to select good one.

Getting too long winded here (long fingered?)

Bob, congrats on your retirement, yes you will be so
busy wonder where found the time to do anything before!

Rick, that fellow on ice was lucky to have friends
checking on him.

Replies from WX4QZ:

Rick, my condolences on the passing of your brother-in-law.

I went through a similar deal with my late XYL...had to get
an attorney, and guide me through probate court. Thankfully,
she didn't have a lot of assets. I hope my brother goes
before I do...the way the house is, he wouldn't want to mess
with it.

As for the ham who slipped on the stairs, glad someone
discovered him in time...he'll be sore for awhile!!

They're saying we'll get colder here by mid-December, but
as noted, we have tornado potential here on Tuesday.

Bob, bummer on having to find new accommodations, but FB
on visiting your sons. Congratulations on your soon
retirement, but you'll be busier than you were when you
were working!!

And, I'm not going to give up my title of King Klutz
without a fight (hi hi).

Thanks for providing the BBS for us.

Charley, glad you made it back home safely. When someone
dies, the relatives come out of the woodwork...the same
if you win the lottery big time.

If you go to the hyperlink on my bio on QRZ, one of the
PDF files details all the nets I'm involved with during
the week.
