My apologies for not posting the scribe from
the Jan. 23, 2023 PCL Net until now. I had to
do another net afterwards...then, with weather
and computer issues, I got sidetracked, and
forgot about it...sorry about that. DS

WX4QZ:

Much of north and west Arkansas is expecting
4 to 12 inches of snow late Tuesday into early
Wednesday...Scott, KF5JRV, will be near the
overall bullseye. Winter Storm Warnings and
Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for
much of the northwest half of the state. Little
Rock may see a few flakes, but otherwise, it'll
be a cold rain. More rain is forecast this
weekend. With the heavy wet snow, roads will
be slick, and there'll likely be power outages
from the downed trees and power lines. They're
saying "we're not done with winter"...I'll
believe it when I see it. They have another
enhanced threat of tornadoes along the Gulf
Coast tomorrow.

ADT came and fixed the 4 bad sensors, and the
alarm panel last week, and graciously waived
the repair fee, as I had been with them for
over 17 years, and being disabled with a heart
condition. I hope I don't have to mess with it
again for awhile.

I made the final post office box run for the
month today, and there was a lot of mail in
there. But, I don't plan to go out again until
maybe early February, depending on the weather.

I discovered the Lloyd's BBQ I had in the
icebox had expired before I opened them, so
I threw them out...meat can be very funny
that way. I still have chicken nuggets and a
few 3 minute pizzas in the freezer to last me
until Feb. 3. I do have a $65 credit from my
HMO that I can order food from Wal-Mart, and
get it delivered, but I may do that later in
the week.

The QuadNet Array no longer accepts connects
from DMR Brandmeister Talk Group 31012, but
folks can go in via DMR+. I have a file from
Jeff, VE6DV, on how to set that up...email me
if you're interested. The Sunflower Network
has more connections than the QuadNet Array
does, though.

K0WAV:

Hello everyone, de Scott K0WAV.

Recently, back in November 2022 moved to AR
from CO. Basically a homecoming of sorts;
used to live in AR 25 years ago. I was over
in Siloam Spring and now in Berryville. So
as to had more confusion I am yet another
Scott, and I am only 25 North of KF5JRV hihi

Glad to be here and meet everyone.

I too have an ALLSTAR node, using a Node-Ventures
ClearNode... my fight with it now is my ISP and
port openings.

Still re-assembling shack after the move here
from Colorado...

Pro tip for driving in the snow and slush...
Stay home. hihi

NS2B:

I think you guys getting more snow down there
than we are up here! That's new and different!

Went over to my sons this afternoon just in
time to have the ambulance haul him away 'cuz
of a heart issue. He called me from the hospital
a few minutes ago. They're trying to figure out
his issue. When they finally give him a room,
I'll be able to visit.

HF packet was hoppin' this week. The usual midwest
contacts were loud and clear.

So about 31012 for QuadNet DMR - when did that
happen? and do you know why?

VA7RBP:

Good evening Daryl and all on the net, and
welcome to Scott.

Another slow week with cold temps keeping me
indoors, we've had snow the last two nights,
only about three inches and the sun came out
today and melted most of it. Now the temp has
dropped to 29F and the raods are icing up.
I looked at the forecast and we should be down
around 8F next weekend.

On the radio front, I have been mostly playing
with Robust Packet on 14.1013 USB, and playing
around with an ALLSTARLINK node, trying to set
it up as a private radio PBX on a few of our
local frequencies, for doing my NOON-TIME NET.

Scott, my radioless ALLSTAR node is 56824,
didn't have too much trouble getting it going
just from the instructions on the ALLSTARLINK
home page.

I also have an IRLP node 3409, and Echolink,
but I don't see too much activity, and I forget
to play with them when I'm working on projects.

Daryl, for ALLSTAR, you can iaxrpt on Windopws
PC, or DV Switch on on android phone

Replies from WX4QZ
(Made 4 days post-net, as I got distracted with
other tasks and forgot to prepare the scribe):

Scott, welcome to the PCL Net. We're here every
Monday at 7pm Central Time, unless there's a US
holiday during the week. We normally don't meet
the weeks of Easter, Memorial Day, Independence
Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New
Years Day. Glad to have you with us.

Bob, as it turned out, north Arkansas got from
4 to 15 inches of snow, with 100,000 people
without power. US Highway 65 near Leslie, just
southeast of Harrison, was impassable, with all
sorts of stuck vehicles in the heavy wet snow.

Back on Jan. 28, 2009, a real bad ice storm hit
much of north Arkansas...1 to 2 inches of ice
fell, over 450,000 were without power (some for
nearly a month), and 3 people lost their lives.

It's looking like another ice storm for north
and central Arkansas from late Monday through
Thursday of the upcoming week...so I may be
offline for a few days. The models all have a
hard time with arctic air intrusions.

I was watching a YouTube channel, Ryan Hall
Ya'll, on the storm chasers, radars, etc. -- he
was covering both the tornadoes in Texas and
Louisiana (the Houston area got hit hard), and
the snow in Arkansas. Winter isn't over by any
means.

I'm not sure if the bands are still open or not.
This weekend coming up is Winter Field Day, but
I have no plans to take part, especially with
the threat of thunderstorms Saturday night into
Sunday.

As for the QuadNet Array dropping DMR TG 31012,
there were several issues involved in that, but
many stations trying to come through DMR were
not coming across on the QuadNet Array. You can
still access it via D-Star (XRF 757A), DMR+
(TG 4541), TGIF (TG 320), WIRES-X, and Fusion.
They can connect through the IPSC2-QuadNet server.

They haven't updated the graphic on the website
(openquad.net) yet, as Jeff, VE6DV, advises me
of events, but his XYL, Lana (not sure if she
is licensed) does the graphics...and she has
been ill for awhile. Many folks were not happy
about it, but it made no sense to have a
connection that wasn't working. In some areas,
all they had was DMR capabilities. So, while
DMR TG 31012 is still active, you can no longer
connect to the QuadNet Array with it.

As for all the stuff, my late parents were such
packrats, it's pathetic. There's so much junk
here, and after hernia surgery recently, I can't
lift anything heavy. Not to be macabre, but I
hope my brother goes before I do. All he'd want
to do is sell the stuff off for the money, but
he'd have to pay the taxes on it. At least I
won't have to pay taxes on selling my car last
summer, since I sold it at a loss.

Rick, that dropping to the single digits this
coming weekend is brutal...we were near 0 in
central Arkansas around Christmas, and that
was without any snow cover. Back in January,
1985, we were down to -6F, with 9 inches of
snow on the ground.

I've been wondering if there was a standalone
app for ALLSTAR, similar to Echolink. Some of
my nets also have that, and with one of the
nets, the Echolink node is down right now. I
tried setting up DroidStar, and the BlueDV
utility on my Android, but I couldn't figure
out how to do it. Plus, the battery on the
phone runs down so quick.
