Sorry for being so late in getting the scribe
posted from last week's net, but got sidetracked
with other things, and forgot. Unfortunately, the
posting of this week's scribe may be delayed as
well, by an ice storm (I wish it had been snow
instead of freezing rain). If I wanted ice, I'd
buy a bag of crushed ice from Sonic (hi hi).
Since the heavy snow across north and west
Arkansas last week wasn't enough, a combination
of Ice Storm Warnings, Winter Storm Warnings,
and Winter Weather Advisories cover all but far
southeast Arkansas; along with a Flood Watch for
southwest Arkansas (they will get above freezing
first). Much of north and central Arkansas will
see freezing rain, with areas along and either
side of a Mena to Hot Springs to Little Rock to
Brinkley to West Memphis line under an Ice Storm
Warning; with Winter Weather Advisories on either
side of that. Far north Arkansas has a Winter Storm
Warning for snow and sleet, but freezing rain will
be the predominant precipitation type elsewhere,
where from 1/10 to 1/2 inch of ice will cause icy
roads, and power outages. No word on how the rest
of the winter will go...never mind if the groundhog
will see his shadow on Thursday. I think of the
meme where there was a wolf in the snow, and he
said "The groundhog said 6 more weeks of winter...
so, I ate him" (hi hi).
My traffic nets the rest of the week, after tonight,
are at risk of cancellation...as if my power and
internet go out, I'm QRT. I'm on the last bits of
food (chicken nuggets), with strawberry-orange-banana
Kool-Aid to wash it all down, so there might be a
few days where I'll be fasting, until I can order
food on Friday, when my next disability payment
arrives. If I run out of food or lose power, I can
just take my blood pressure medication, and try to
catch up on sleep. Besides, I can afford to lose some
weight. I tried to order some stuff online, but they
were out of stock. Hopefully, with the new month,
the supplies will be replenished.
At least I won't lose much food if the power does go
out. But, if power goes out, I won't be able to run my
nets, and my BBS will be offline. At least the ice
storm won't be as bad as the ones back in 1994, 2000,
and 2009...but it'll be bad enough. Then, you will
have these idiots who think they can stop just as
fast on a wet, snowy, or icy pavement, as they can on
dry; these likely got their drivers license from a
Cracker Jack box (hi hi).
A few years back, right before Covid-19 hit, I did a
forum for prospective, new, and long time licensees at
an area hamfest. But, with selling the car and ending
driving last June, there's no way I can go to a hamfest,
unless I ride with someone; but I also do a traffic net
on Saturday morning, when most of these hamfests are
held. Most of these require you to get up before the
butt crack of dawn, and with not resting well at night
anymore, it's best I stay home. I'm working on redoing
the PowerPoint presentation I did, and exporting it to
a PDF file, to post on the first hyperlink on my QRZ bio.
This way, folks can download it at their leisure. I hope
to have it online later tonight after my other net.
My first exam session isn't until March 11, but I'm going
to wait a few more weeks before making the announcement
for it. With the General Class Question Pool changing in
July, I'm not sure how many examinees will show up...
never mind the status of Covid-19, masks, etc...although
I saw where the President is "ending the emergency on May
11".

This week was fairly uneventful. Didn't do much on
the radio - a few HF contacts on packet (Net105)
and that was about it.
Watched some good football over the weekend - the
Chiefs won - I'm happy. And watched parts of the
Rolex 24 at Daytona - racing season is coming - it
makes winter tolerable!
Everyone stay warm! we're supposed to single digits
and below zero windchills in the coming days - I
suppose you guys might get some of that too.

That's right no tacos for me tonight. We'll do our
Monday night net 'over the air'!
Today was an interesting weather event. We had over
an inch of thunder sleet. The frozen pellets were
pretty amazing to see and it was very loud as it
pounded my awnings! I can count on 1 hand how many
times I've seen thunder sleet.
If you listen to QSO Today podcast, last week was an
interview with a Tulsa ham named Tommy Henderson. He
teaches electronics at a votech school, and they
discussed a range of things including his setup for
EME (Earth-Moon-Earth) events. I've met him, and he
is pretty cool. He had a school project to make a
electric drag racing bike. Got it up to 135mph, but
I dont remember his quarter mile time. Had to be
really quick.
This week, the interview is with a guy named Jerry
Spring from Calgary, Alberta. Funny thing is Jerry
was a customer of mine back in the day before we
sold our company. Small world!
Just a quick note: got qso this week from ham in AR
on 12m, so I just need KS to have worked all states
(WAS) on 12m. It took over 8-9 months to get somebody
in AR, so I'm hopeful won't be as long for KS!

It have been a good week. Getting a little cleaning
done in the radio room.
Lost power for a bit last week. The heavy snow broke
down several limbs.
We had some sleet today. I hope we do get more snow
than sleet. The snow dosent become solid ice when
it starts melting.

Bob (NY), a ham in California reported his dog, a
Corgi, wasn't too happy that the 49ers lost...he
was so upset, he wouldn't even touch his Milk Bone
dog biscuit!! I didn't even watch the game, or do
anything on Field Day...but I heard you basically
had to get a shoehorn to squeeze in on the bands,
as they were hopping and busy!!
Bob (OK), if you had gotten thundersnow, you would
have seen Jim Cantore (hi hi). I saw the lightning
strikes on radar earlier today, and when you get
the convective cells, it increases the rain, ice,
sleet, or snow. I did post a message on Facebook
in the Wichita, Kansas Chapter of the QCWA, telling
them you needed a Kansas Contact for 12m WAS. I guess
I need to make another post on that. FB on the electric
drag racing bike, and hooking up with an old friend.
Scott, I thought cluttered shack was a sign of genius,
and if someone straightens up my mess, my system is
goofed up (hi hi). I saw on idrivearkansas.com this
evening that many roads in north Arkansas were ice
covered. I hope I can keep power and internet this
week.
