WX4QZ:
Last week, a devastating ice storm struck
Arkansas, especially south and southeast
of Little Rock. There was some freezing
rain and sleet here, but I was able to keep
power. Things were far worse to my south.
We go to the other extreme this week into
next week, with flooding rain and a threat
of severe thunderstorms as we approach our
spring tornado season.
I was up late overnight, and got very little
sleep...but had to stay up to wait for FedEx
to deliver some groceries today...I saw a FedEx
truck go down the other side of the street
earlier, but nothing was delivered here...I'll
bet they delivered it to the wrong place. It's
supposed to repeat through at least Wednesday.
Next month, I'll just use the credit toward one
of the utility bills. Anyway, I can't go out
until Thursday, as weather is supposed to be
stormy the next 2 days anyway; and that may also
wash out my nets. I also have dropped 2 nets
that I was helping with logging, as I've been
pushing myself too hard.
After another net this evening, I'm crashing
out...although I haven't eaten since this
morning. And, with the storms, I may be late
posting the scribe out again. It looks like
more rain and storms for Valentine's Day; I
hope it holds off so I can do the PCL net next
Monday, as I know Bob is going down to Daytona
soon, I think after the Super Bowl. Some long
range progs are calling for arctic air by the
end of the month, but it's too early to know
for sure.
With other bills, I had to postpone a haircut
and a podiatrist visit. That increase I got
didn't help things much...but at least I have
some groceries, as I had run out of food last
Thursday. I likely will skip the 2 hamfests
in the state over the next month, for lack of
money and transportation. I doubt I'll ever
go outside of the Little Rock area again.
I saw a bakery had made some "groundhog
cupcakes", with a "groundhog" with the
frosting. I guess if you eat them, it will
cause your waistline to put a shadow over
your belt, and that means 6 more weeks of
dieting (hi hi). I saw 2 bizarre memes, one
explaing why the weather is so messed up...
Phil is smoking crack pipes!! And, he is
apparently divorced...his ex-wife, Phyllis,
is in Florida, because "Phil is a pathological
liar" (hi hi).

Well it's been a week of running back and forth
to hospital - my youngest son came down with an
intestinal infection, so he's been there all
week being pumped full of antibiotics. We're
hoping he gets to come home soon.
I saw some videos on Youtube of that ice mess
out there - cars sliding into everything.
Sort of humorous in a demented way! Surely glad
I wasn't participating!
Yep, leaving for Daytona next Wednesday - not
precisely sure when we're back - I don't think
I'll make the net on the 20th.
Not much new in the radio world. Just been
hanging around on Net105.
Thanks Daryl - that AMRRON is some kind of
prepper/disaster group - They have a web page
that looks like some good reading.

Good evening Daryl and Bob.
The past two weeks have been busy with Doctor's
appointments and hospital visits.
I missed last week, due to being engrossed in a
project and lost track of time.
The doctor's visits were nothing to be concerned
about, just follow up stuff, but I had to take
Arlene to the hospital for a look-see that wiped
out the whole day with travelling.
I've been working on trying to eliminate the RF
in the shack. I build a big ugly balun common
mode choke and installed it at my shack cable
entrance on the feedline to the end fed antenna...
I think it's actually working, but I have to
finish another one for one of my VHF packet coax
lines that's picking up the HF as well and piping
RF back into the shack.
I've just been doing the usual PACTOR and Robust
Packet on 40M and 20M, and the last couple of days
I was scanning 40M and heard an FSQ signal, which
I haven't heard in several years. I left the radio
on 7.110 USB and using FSQCall, I picked up about
eleven stations beaconing in ID, WA, OR, and CA.
Managed to have a QSO with one of them and turns
out it's part of a AMRRON network.
Our weather right now is rain, and temps around
40F, and the snow has all but melted...however,
you look at the forecast and they keep saying
rain/snow.

Bob, I hope your son gets better...those intestinal
deals are no fun.
The ice was a real mess...in 3 weeks, we're going
from heavy snow, to ice, to possible severe weather.
Weather might keep me QRT on Feb. 13, and I hope I
can take the net for you on the 20th...but it's too
early to know on both.
As for the AMRRON, the CERT Net does a lot of
discussion with related activities.
Rick, glad the medical stuff was basically routine.
GL on taking care of the RF in the shack. FB on the
HF data modes.
