My apologies for the delay in posting this. I got
distracted with other things after the net, then
we had severe weather Wednesday night into Thursday.
Plus, I discovered one of the external USB drive on
the BBS computer (where I do the D-Star Nets from),
failed...and trying to upgrade the BBS software was
a bust. So, I had to set up backup software and do
a backup on another external USB drive...as if the
BBS computer had crashed, I'd be off the air, D-Star
Net wise, and my BBS would have been history. At
least I didn't have to buy a new one, and wait for
it to be delivered. DS

WX4QZ:

Don't forget your spouse, significant other, etc.
tomorrow for Valentine's Day, although it may be
better to give them a dozen eggs instead of a
nice ring, or assortment of chocolates (they cost
the same (hi hi)). I need to get a shave and a
haircut real bad...but since it'll cost more than
2 bits, I have to wait a bit on it.

I just found out that a blind ham I had known for
years (Tracy, KC5EIQ) became a SK early yesterday.
He, another ham (Sam, N5SRB (SK)), myself, and one
other blind ham Tim, K5TEL, were "giving directions
at Hamfest Talk-in in Little Rock years ago...but
we could not see" (I was legally blind at the time,
in the early stages of cataracts)...you can just
imagine the comments!! One of them had to do "a
talk-out net for the talk-in station (me), who
couldn't find his way out of the hamfest parking
lot!!" (hi hi).

The last few nights, I've gotten very little sleep;
between pain in my neck, back/spine, and my legs. I
ended up taking 2 Tylenol Caplets around sunrise,
which knocked me out until midday. I dropped 2 nets
I was logging for, and cut the early checkin time
to 30 minutes. If the pain gets worse, I may have
to cut that to 15, or eliminate it altogether (as
some nets don't offer a pre-net or post-net checkin
window). I've got a lot of stuff to do, but I just
haven't felt like doing much of anything, except
sleeping. I guess my mind feels I should still be
hibernating like a polar bear (hi hi). I skipped a
square dance special tonight to do the nets, and
I just didn't feel like going out tonight. Plus, my
dry corneas are giving me fits again...at least 2
or 3 times a day, at minimum. No wonder I can't get
anything done, at the computer, or otherwise.

The crazy weather continues here...all of Arkansas
is under a Wind Advisory into early Wednesday, and
parts of that may get put under a High Wind Warning,
with some gusts over 50 mph possible. With the
soggy ground from the recent rain, snow, and ice,
the trees are likely to get blown over. I have a
big tree just outside my window, and I pray it
won't fall on the house, let alone get uprooted.
Severe weather is also a threat Wednesday and
Wednesday night. At least wildfire danger isn't
an issue.

More objects getting shot down in the sky...at
least the National Weather Service weather upper
air balloons and any ham radio balloons identify
themselves regularly. And, I saw where a flight
from Hawaii to Califonia, plunged to under 800
feet above the Pacific Ocean shortly after takeoff.
I think I want to stay on Terra Firma. I heard that
there was a good crowd at Orlando Hamcation, but my
travel days outside of central Arkansas are over,
for hamfests or otherwise. To Bob, NS2B, I hope you
have a safe trip to the Daytona 500. I'm planning
to be here next Monday. I didn't even watch the
Super Bowl yesterday, but saw Kansas City won. And,
you had folks on both sides rioting, especially
the sore losers. Whatever happened to sportsmanship
and losing gracefully??

I heard where the Bouvet Island DXpedition is having
to terminate early, due to running out of fuel for
the generators. Contesting, etc., never appealed to
me. My niches are nets, VE Testing, forums for new
hams, and ragchewing.

NS2B:

GE All!

The week was somewhat uneventful. Visiting my son in
the hospital every day is getting old - but at least
he's slowly getting better. He ends a regiment of IV
antibiotics tomorrow and sounds like withn a day or 2
he'll get to come home.

In the meantime, I'm heading down to Daytona Wednesday
morning - going to overdose on racing for a few days.

The spy balloons are getting out of hand. But don't you
think they've always been there?

The weather is nuts. It was 51 today, high 40s tomorrow,
60s on Thursday. This is NOT a normal February.

Nothing new on the radio front. Still pretty much camped
on Net105 - over the weekend I move to Net40 cuz the
RTTY contesters get in the way on 20m.

I forgot to mention the Superbowl! I'm a Chiefs fan since
I grew up in Missouri and spent a few years in KC - so
the outcome of that game suited me just fine!

Prayers for Rick and Arlene.

VA7RBP:

Good evening Daryl and all on the net.

It was NOT a very good week for us...Arlene just found
out she has level 1 cancer, and we're just waiting now
for a surgery datE, hopefully within the next month.

That has distracted me from most activities this past
week.

I have managed to get on the radio a bit, just not this
weekend, the RTTY contesters overwhelm everything, so
I just turned the radio off and worked on getting some
old MFJ-1270 and 1278 units going. One of the guys wants
a TNC for his trailer to do APRS, and I offered one from
my collection.

I built a couple of Big Ugly Balun RF chokes for my coax
lines, and they seem to be working. But, I want to move
one up to the feed point of my End Fed to see if it will
work even better.

I have to wait for better weather before attempting the
roof. All my other projects are sitting in the wings right
now.

Thanks guys, for the kind words! We're hoping it is caught
in time and things will get back to normal.

Have fun Bob at the races! I never got into enjoying sports
much, Dad used to kick us out of the room when he and his
buddies were watching boxing, and never really encouraged
us, so I gravitated to the nerdy stuff...

KF5JRV:

GE Everyone.

Prayers for Rick and Arlene.

Been a slow week. It was cold and spitting some snow Friday.
Then warmed it warmed up. Now they say high winds and rain
tomorrow

Another front rolls through later this week.

Jackie hasn't got her onion sets out yet. Maybe this weekend
or next week.

Replies from WX4QZ:

Bob, the net is in good hands next week...have a safe trip
to Daytona...the weather should be nice.

I hope your son can come home soon...being in the hospital
is no fun.

On the balloons, they apparently shot down a ham radio PICO
balloon...I guess the National Weather Service upper air
weather forecast balloons are next. I saw an editorial
cartoon, where a little girl's Valentine's balloon was shot
down by "Biden with a gun".

I thought there were only 2 RTTY contests...one in January,
and one in July...I guess they're on all the time, like the
rest of them. Contesting never appealed to me.

My first pro team was Kansas City (Len Dawson), before I
gravitated to the Miami Dolphins. Now, I prefer collegiate
sports...no one is worth all that money. Some coaches won't
grant incoming students NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) benefits
until they have EARNED playing time, and kept their studies
up. At the Auburn/Alabama basketball game recently, they
picked a student to sink a 94 foot putt across the basketball
court, and if he got it in the hole, he'd win a car. The guy
had ice in his veins...he nailed it, and the crowd went wild!!

Rick, I'm so sorry to hear about Arlene's diagnosis...I
doubt that any family has escaped the cancer scourge...mine
hasn't.

As for TNC's, I still have an MFJ-1270C here that I used to
run a packet door on the BBS with...but I no longer have a
rig or cable for it. It was nice having a TNC mailbox.

Scott, I figured it was getting close for Miss Jackie to
get her spring planting started. It's still technically
"winter", but you wouldn't know it by the temperatures.
