WX4QZ:
One week from this coming Sunday, March 12, much
of the US goes back to Daylight Savings Time. If
your area observes the time change, with very few
exceptions, the net times won't change. But, if
you forget to spring forward on March 12, you'll
be an hour late for church, work, nets, and more.
UTC Times for most nets will be an hour earlier.
As a side note, Lent started this past week; the
Easter holiday this year is on April 9...so the
net will take a hiatus on Monday, April 10.
March is going to come in like a lion, weatherwise;
because meterological winter won't go out without a
whimper. Portions of Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri,
and north Texas got blasted by severe weather last
night, with tornadoes, very large hail, and wind
gusts over 100 mph in some areas. Arkansas may see
likewise Thursday and Thursday night...right now,
data looks rather ominous. Then in early March, a
late winter/early spring cold snap, will cause
havoc with all the budding trees, flowers, and
gardens...it happens every year. That means the
bugs will be back shortly (ugh!). There wasn't
much of a winter, snow wise, in central Arkansas,
this year.
I've had computer issues the last several days. I
tried twice to upgrade the BBS software, and it
screwed the doorgames up. I thought I had a backup
of the main program directory, or I could get it
off the external USB drives...but that directory
was gone, 1 of the drives was dead, and the other
wouldn't let me get the data. So, I've been in
recovery mode the last several days. I can't go
to the ARVARF Hamfest in Dardanelle on March 4
(or any hamfest for that matter), as I'm doing
nets on both Saturday morning and afternoon, and
am doing a license exam session locally on March
11. No rest for the weary, never mind the wicked
(hi hi). Plus, I don't drive or have a car anymore.
At least I'll get my next disability payment on
Friday, as I'm in bad need of a podiatrist visit,
plus a trip to the barbershop. I'm to see the
cardiologist on March 15...that was a bad day
for Julius Caesar (hi hi).
I have to scan in the documents for the taxes
next week...at least my tax preparer will let
me email in a PDF, since I don't drive anymore,
or have a car. But, then I've got to get the
funds to pay that bill...that COLA increase was
about as good as soda that has gone flat from
sitting out too long, and lost its fizz. At least
I have until October to pay the personal property
tax.

Good evening Daryl and Scott,
It was a busy week. Our radio club had to set up
an estate sale for one of the guys VE7WC who
passed away last year. Probate was finally up for
his estate, and he donated all his ham gear to the
club to dispose of as we saw fit. There was enough
stuff to cover ten tables at the Air Cadet Hall.
We didn't have a lot of time to sort through it all,
so we ended up accepting offers. There were radios,
tuners, power amps in boxes never opened. There was
an IC-7800 with a 1kw amp that was bought by someone
who drove 4 hours to get it.
The sale went from 10:00 am to 01:00 pm this past
Saturday. The ten tables were reduced to two tables
at the end and we were cleaned up and out of there by
12:30 pm.
Arlene goes for her pre-surgery consultation on Friday,
then maybe will know when, or we will have to wait some
more...
Not much radio work this past week due to the estate
sale, and 40M and 20M have been crappy because of some
solar stuff.
Sunday morning we woke up to eight inches of snow, and
more forecast this week.
Welcome back Bob, glad you had a good time!
Your tale about sliding around on the icy roads reminded
me that Arlene is currently watching Car Crash TV on
Netflix, lots of antics of drivers in snowy conditions
in Eastern Europe and Russia...

We had a busy week. Last week, Jackie had a artery that
goes to her left eye swelled and cause pain in the eye
The eye doctor seems to think it has something to do
with shingles. She is better now, and sees the doctor
this Friday.
My packet PC died, and my backup info was 4 or 5 years
old. My current cfg files were on the dead pc.
I am back up, and I think everything is working as it
should be. I now have another PC ready to go in five
minutes.
Jackie has some cabbage and onions out. They should be
good with some covers.

GE All.
Yeah, made it back ok. Sorry for being late - I was up
visiting the son in the hospital, and when I came out,
I found we have a snow storm hitting. Roads are
treacherous right now.
I drove slow, and watched cars fly off the road into
ditches and medians!
I had shingles in my eyes about 15 years ago. I thought
it was rare! Apparently not. It was terrible. It hurt,
and my vision took a serious hit for a while. I couldn't
drive for about a week.
The trip to Daytona was pretty awesome. That track is
huge! The grandstands alone would swallow up the front
stretch at Watkins Glen. It was a good time.
Speaking of HF - we had a ice storm over the weekend
that broke down some trees and iced up my antennas.
For a day or 2, I couldn't use them. The 40m antenna
thawed out, and it became usable. Not so for the 20m
antenna. I thought maybe it got water in it or something.
Finally went out and looked at it. The ice broke my
counterpoise! I'll have to try to fix that tomorrow.

Rick, we hope and pray Arlene can get that taken care
of soon.
As for the demolition derby, you get that on the roads;
you don't have to go to the speedway to see it!!
On that estate sale, wow...10 tables.
I heard that there was a G3 geomagnetic storm last week.
Scott, the shingles is a side effect after one has had
chicken pox. I had that 43 years ago, and it put me in
the hospital for a week, and out of work at Burger King
and out of school at UALR for 2 months. It was like
being put in a vat of itching powder. Glad Jackie's
eyesight is better. Hopefully, the covers will keep any
frost from doing damage.
Glad you got the packet PC back up...I've been doing
recovery work of my own on my BBS computer the last
several days.
Bob, glad you enjoyed the Daytona 500. Hope your son
gets to come home soon. As for the icy roads, I'm glad
you made it home safe.
In some ice storms in years past, the antennas were
as bent over as the tree branches.
