WX4QZ:

This coming Sunday, March 12, much of the US and
Canda returns to Daylight Savings Time, at 2am
local time. If your area observes the time change,
with very few exceptions, the net times will not
change. But, if you forget to spring forward on
March 12, you'll be an hour late for church, work,
nets, and more. UTC Times for most nets will be an
hour earlier. As a side note, Easter this year is
on April 9...so the net will take a hiatus on the
night of Monday, April 10.

March came in like a lion, weatherwise; with much
of the Arklatex, Arklamiss, and Midsouth, dealing
with tornadoes, very large hail, hurricane force
winds, and extensive flash flooding as well as
river flooding. More rain and storms are forecast
this week...looks like little if any computer or
ham radio work for me for a few days a bit; maybe
I can catch up on some sleep.

I have to scan in the documents for the taxes
soon, and email them to my tax preparer. I'm
trying to get the funds for that bill...the
cost of groceries and everything else keeps
rising. Now with groceries on hand (I ran out
of food last Friday, but was able to get some
stuff via Grubhub to last until today), I can
graze again. I saw a message where the "keto
diet" can do more harm than good.

At least I have until October to pay the
personal property tax on the house. The much
needed visits to the podiatrist and the barber
shop have to wait...and if winter weather
arrives around March 15, the cardiologist
appointment has to wait as well.

I made a post office box run earlier today...I
won't do that again until late this month. For
the second time since I've been with Lyft, they
tried to pair me with a driver with a very high
ground clearance pickup truck. I had to cancel
the ride, and request a new one. I left them a
stinging email, that they need to consider the
customers who can't step into these vehicles;
especially when the step as high as your groin!!
After Uber frauded my bank card a year ago, I'm
not going back to them, and if I lose Lyft, then
except for a license exam session 4 times a year
(where I can get transportation), I will then be
at home 24/7/365. And, if that goes away, I won't
be going to doctors appointments, etc., and have
no way to get home from an ambulance run to the
ER. While I can get groceries and medications
delivered, I might as well become a hermit if I
lose transportation entirely. Medicare said that
they couldn't give me home health care unless I
was homebound. Well, it has been nearly 9 months
since I quit driving and sold my car, due to vision
issues. I hope they're happy.

With running 2 nets again on Saturday, I didn't
go to the ARVARF Hamfest in Dardanelle this past
weekend. I don't leave the Little Rock area at
all anymore.

I'm doing a ham radio license exam session this
Saturday in Little Rock. The General Class
Question Pools and exams change July 1...I'm
sure there'll be folks who miss the change, study
the wrong material, and fail the test...happens
every question pool change.

NS2B:

GE All.

An uneventful week. We actually had enough snow to
shovel over the weekend, so I did that.

The HF bands seem to have been doing well over the
last few days. I'm making pretty consistent connections
on Vara HF for Winlink down into New Jersey and out to
Wisconsin on Net105. It's nice when you can checkin with
your friends on HF.

Not much else going on here. My son's health is finally
improving - he'll be heading to rehab after his long
hospital stay - but that's ok - better than the alternative
as they say!

I hope Arlene's treatments go well, that Jackie doesn't need
surgery, and everyone stays healthy!

Not much else going on here. Thanks for doing the net Daryl -
73 >>>

VA7RBP:

Good evening Daryl and all on the net.

Nothing exciting to report for last week, but we did find
out what Arlene will be facing. She had her pre-surgery
consultation on Friday, and found out that the type of
surgery she requires will have to be done in Vancouver.
That means we have to drive down there, and stay in a hotel
for a week PLUS, and drive back home again. It's going to be
expensive...but necessary.

I haven't been doing much on HF lately, 40M PACTOR has been
terrible, so I've been sending my messages 20M PACTOR when
that area of the band is free ov Vara AC stuff.

I've been trying to repair my FT-480R ALL MODE radio, not
making a lot of progress.

Good to hear your Son is on the mend, Bob!

Arlene still hasn't got a surgery date yet, we may have to
wait 4 to 6 months. We have already started looking at B&B
suggestions that the hospital has reccomended. We just have
to wait and see...fortunately her cancer is not one of the
more aggressive ones.

OK, that's all I have for tonight, everyone have a great
week, 73 until next time. BTU Daryl >>>

KF5JRV:

GE everyone.

It has been a good week. We survived the rain last week. Looks
like more on the way this week.

I purchased a Radioddity GD-73 (DMR UHF HT) a couple of years
ago. I finally got the right driver to program it.

I took Jackie to the eye doctor last week. She may need some eye
surgury if the meds dont work.

Rick, I don't know about Canada, but my stepson gets a voucher
for hotel when he has to do over night or week at Little Rock.

As far as operating system my packet bbs is still running win xp.

Just would like to wish everyone a good week. BTU >>>

Replies from WX4QZ:

Bob, I saw reports of an X2 solar flare headed toward Earth;
that may mess things up on the bands. Glad to hear your son
is improving.

Rick, at least you have an idea what to expect with Arlene's
surgery. I'm long overdue for an upper and lower GI (EGD and
colonoscopy), but I can't afford a $300 co-pay for each one.

Scott, they have a moderate risk of excessive rain into Friday.
FB on the DMR HT. I hope Jackie doesn't need eye surgery...I
heard of another set of eye drops being recalled, due to causing
blindness. At least what I use (Systane) isn't affected.

In Little Rock, there's a hotel just west of Fair Park Blvd./
Van Buren Street on West Markham (just northwest of War Memorial
Stadium) that offers special rates for families of patients at
the University Of Arkansas For Medical Sciences (UAMS).

FB on the packet setup running XP...that was a good OS for my BBS.

A fellow BBS Sysop is preparing a couple of small Linux systems
for me, since Microsoft ends support for Windows 10 in 2 1/2
years. He also is interested in getting his Technician license.
