WX4QZ:
We've been having momentary power outages here
lately...either they're working on the lines,
or some idiot took out a power pole. So, if I
disappear for a moment, I'll be back as soon
as possible.
Rick is with his wife Arlene, as she undergoes
surgery for cancer...and he'll be gone tonight
and next week, April 3...so he has a courtesy
check/early checkin.
The net will be here next week, April 3, but
will take April 10 OFF, as that's the day after
Easter. I doubt I'll even try to go to my church,
as Lyft has had such a driver shortage lately. I
have no idea when I can reschedule a doctor's
appointment...but as noted earlier, I sold my
car last summer, and gave up driving, due to
vision issues.
I installed a beta of Outpost last week to fix
a glitch with the UTC Time, and it's working fine.
Jim, KN6PE, has done a great job with the Outpost
Packet program...I use the iptelnet client to get
into the net, and Outpost to send/receive messages.
I do have a PDF file here on setting it up, to log
on to the NS2B BBS, if any one is interested.
March came in like a lion, it has been a lion
much of the month, and it will go out like a
lion, severe weather wise. An EF-4 tornado
slammed Rolling Fork and Amory, Mississippi
the other day, and the Storm Prediction Center
is showing a severe weather risk from the
Arklatex, Arklamiss, and Midsouth, north to
the upper Midwest, Great Lakes, and into the
Ohio Valley on Friday. This has the makings
of another Super Outbreak, like what occurred
in April, 1974, nearly 50 years ago. I hope
I'm wrong on that.
It appears many hams don't know what "good
amateur practice" is...never mind that they
are impatient...thinking that "the world,
ham radio, and nets, revolve around them".
One has broken in the middle of a net I was
doing (twice in the last 2 weeks), to call
CQ. When I told him that a net was in progress,
he disappeared, with no apology. So, I sent
him an email, telling him if he did it again,
I'd have him banned from the reflectors, etc.
But apparently, some think "it's too much to
ask" if the frequency is in use (a net or
emergency traffic situation or drill is in
progress), before they start calling CQ, etc.
I don't care if they think that it's an
EMERGENCY that their ROUTINE traffic isn't
given PRIORITY, as their HEALTH AND WELFARE
(ego) will be shattered. To me, these need to
sell their gear, turn in their license, and
go find another hobby. It's hams like this
that keep me QRT except for my nets, as I
very rarely get sked requests.
I had to order groceries Saturday, and got
them delivered yesterday...I hope they'll
last me much, if not all of April. But, I
was getting burned out on chicken nuggets
and lunch meat sandwiches every day. Now,
I have cheese dogs, tuna salad sandwiches,
and 3 minute pizzas to choose from for a
bit.
I still have to scan in the items for the
taxes (coming up very soon), but I just
have not had the strength to do much at
the computer. It's an ordeal now to do
the ham radio nets, or work on the BBS.
But, between the dry corneas, degenerative
disc disease in my back and spine, and the
arthritis in my hips and legs, all I want
to do is get horizontal and sleep. I would
hate to give these up, as I need something
to do besides hibernate. Yet, just taking
1 or 2 Tylenol caplets will make me groggy
in short order...however, deal with the pain
spasms is more difficult by the day. I'm
using a cane to get around the house, and
some days, I have to use the walker.
If finances permit next week, I'm going to
try to get to the podiatrist and to the
barbershop. The problem will be finding
drivers with Lyft...never mind not being
paired with high ground clearance vehicles
that are nearly impossible to get into.
My HMO offers rides with 3 days notice,
but if the doctor's office cancels, or I
get sick at the last minute, there could
be trouble. They don't do medical house
calls, per se, anymore.

GE All.
It was a week. Cleaned up some downed limbs
in the yard from a bit of an ice storm we
had a couple weeks ago. Was finally warm
enough and dry enough to drive the pickup
accross the yard to load the stuff up and
haul it away.
My son is back in the hospital - he was out
for about a week, and then he went to see
his GI doctor, and she said back to the
hospital with you - he's seemingly in good
health - but apparently he needs an antibiotic
that is only available in IV form... Hopefully
this stay is over soon.
Not much new in the radio world - still Winlink
via VARA HF - packet on Net105 - and capturing
some WEFAX - I'm easily amused!
Heading to the track this Saturday for our annual
safety training. Then the Corvette goes down 2
weeks after that to run some laps.
This year is flying by! Next thing you know I'll
be planting my tomatoes!

We had a good week. We had a good soaking rain
Thursday and Friday. The weekend was nice. Sprayed
some spots in the lawn, and put up a outdoor canopy
for Jackie.
It will be another month before we do tomatoes, but
we have snow peas and cabbage.
Last Thursday I did get some APRS packets from Europe
(Sweden, Spain and England). I suppose it had to due
to the northern lights.

Bob, FB on the yard work, but bummer on your son
back in the hospital. I have to call my yard man
next month. There was the CQ WW on the bands this
past weekend, so there was a lot of QRM, from what
I heard. Enjoy the time at the track.
Scott, FB on the gardening, etc. One ham up north
said he worked the Falkland Islands on 10m this
past weekend. The northern lights have been seen
in Arkansas, but that's rare.
