Our next net holiday is Memorial Day, May 29.
Severe weather pummeled the country's midsection
last Friday...with up to baseball size hail,
hurricane force winds, and tornadoes in both
the St. Louis and Shreveport areas...and more
severe storms are forecast mid to late this week.
Up north, winter won't go away, with potential
blizzard conditions. In other areas, there are
fire weather issues, and rain and snow back out
west. El Nino is likely developing, so that will
mess things up even more. It's supposed to turn
colder across much of the country this weekend,
into next week, and it may last the rest of the
month.
I was hoping to revive a one time net in the area,
but when word got out of another ham being involved,
everyone complained. So, we're going to do our own
net. The original Net Control says he wants to revive
the net, and I had done work to set things up. Yet,
he doesn't know when he can do it, although folks
have wanted the net to return. So, I'm basically
closed down the website, and it's up to him to revive
it...and that may be after the cows come home (hi hi).
I'll see the eye doctor on May 1...as I think my
glaucoma is expanding, with dull headaches and
eye pain. The dry corneas have really been bad
lately. I'll make a post office box run this coming
Saturday, as it's "drug take back day", so I can
discard several prescriptions I no longer use. I
likely have been spending too much time at the
computer lately.
I've run out of food, but I can't order any until
tomorrow, which won't be delivered until midweek.
So, I'll have to order delivery Tuesday, or not
eat anything...which isn't a good idea, since I
have medications I need to take.

Well, this was a week of beautiful weather - uncommonly
warm, 70s even some low 80s. But, now we're back to
normal - it was 40s and rain today - will likely be
this for next week or 2. Can't complain - at least it's
not snowing!
Hams are funny creatures - they can be some the most
opinionated people I've ever met. I'm the treasurer of
a local repeater club. The membership has waned to the
point that we're basically treading water financially.
It's a couple years away, but we will eventually be
broke. I can't seem to get anyone else to see the reality
of it.
Don't mess around with the eyes - see that doctor soon!
Haven't done much on the radio front. I play around with Vara
HF on Winlink and the HF Packet on Net105 - I don't deviate
much!
Hey Rick, glad to hear Arlene is on the mend.
And my circle of communication for Net105 covers Florida,
Nova Scotia, Colorado. The stations I can talk to almost
on demand are, Jon VE1JOT, Rick KE0GB, and Steve KB9PVH.
Same story with our club finances - we pay the insurance
and not much left over. Another issue for us these days is
finding homes for repeaters. A couple are running of garages -
not ideal.

Good evening Daryl and all on the net.
Yes, Arlene's surgery went well on Mar 31, I picked her up on
Apr 01, she rested for a day then said she wanted to go home.
I had to drive really slow the whole way, and pay particular
care with bumps and sharp turns. We spent two days getting back
home. She's been resting and healing nicely.
I've been doing all the household stuff and cooking so she
doesn't have to move around too much.
The weather here has been typical early spring, with temps mostly
in the low 30s in the morning and getting up to around 60F during
the day.
Yesterday, there were reports of snow and hail just North of us,
we got lots of rain. But the high mountain passes are still
getting quite a bit of snow. On the way back from Vancouver, we
had quite a bit of hail for some high spots.
Radio wise, I've also been hanging out on HF Packet Net105, but
haven't seen you, Bob.
Also, I'm club treasurer, and concur about HAMs and paying dues.
We have the usual folks that are dedicated and contribute extra,
so that we can get club insurance to cover repeater site activities,
etc, but we also have a few that have a lot to say, but don't cough
up when the crunch is on.
We have a few repeaters that are in dire need of maintenance, but
we can only get to them for a few weeks in the summer.
Going to have to get some donations from the regional district on
top of the regular dues...
Well, last week the Doctor advised that I am now diabetic, so I
just started taking meds for that.
I'm going on a EMCOM course on Thursday in Cranbrook, for a day,
looking forward to that, and meeting some hams I hear on the HF
nets.

Bob and Rick, hams are frugal cheapskates, but some likely have
more money than they know what to do with...yet, they are such
tightwads that they'd make Jack Benny proud.
Bob, the earliest the eye doctor could see me was May 1. I
hope it's not a "May Day", vision wise.
Rick, fantastic news on Arlene...we wish her a speedy recovery.
You likely saw sleet or graupel...hail falls from thunderstorms.
I can understand about the roads...saw a meme awhile back where
a pothole repair truck fell into a pothole (hi hi).
Bummer on being diabetic...I have the potential to become type 2.
Enjoy the EMCOM course, and the eyeball QSO's.
