Our next net holiday is Memorial Day, May 29.
I've got 8 folks coming to take a license
exam on Saturday; I hope I can work out a
transportation arrangement with Lyft, since
I don't drive anymore. The Faculty Advisor
may have to go to a funeral. I hope with the
supplies I have won't be a problem with Lyft.
If I lose them, then I'm stuck at home until
I die...no medical apppointments, etc. At
least I can get groceries and medications
delivered...but if I lose internet, then I'm
cut off from the outside world for life. I
made appointments with my podiatrist, eye
doctor, and cardiologist today...the barber
shop is next.
We're supposed to have more rain and storms
from Thursday through Mother's Day Weekend.
We aren't hurting on rainfall, and don't have
fire danger to worry about, but we likely will
not be able to buy a drop of water come July.
Some hams weren't happy that I couldn't do a
net this past Saturday, due to lightning. If
I end up getting zapped to satisfy their ego,
to have a net to check into, I will tell them
"I hope you're happy now, as I and my nets are
now QRT".
ARRL has a survey online for its members to
respond to a possible dues increase (weren't
we talking about this recently? (hi hi)), but
I gave up trying to get my login credentials
straightened out on the website. Several
phone call attempts got disconnected, and
even though I'm a Life Member, I haven't
been able to read QST, etc. for months,
ever since they redid the website last year.

Uneventful as usual. It's been raining pretty
steady here that last few days. I least I got
my weed and feed down before it started. I'll
have plenty of grass to mow now!
You're right about Christmas coming out soon - I
better start getting my shopping lists together -
the speed this year has been going by, if I start
Christmas shopping now, maybe I'll be ready in
time!
No VE at our repeater club any more. I'm the only
VE left - can't operate with just one - so no more
testing for us.
That's a lot of steps! There's a place like that up
in Niagara Falls. Climbed it once - decided I'm
getting too old for that.
Good deal on Jackie's surgery.
It's amazing how capable those Raspberry Pi's are.

This has been a whirlwind, where every day was the
same: open a box, find a home for the contents,
rinse, repeat.
Still don't have an antenna hooked up, but hope to
get on the air before "Winlink Wednesday". I'm in
an HOA (again), so will start with an antenna in
the attic and see how I do.
Went to an informal "Elmer Night" Tuesday to hang
out with the new (to me) guys in the Norman OK club.
They were talking about an AREDN network. I put a
node together several years ago, so I may spin up a
new node and see if I can connect in. One of the
guys is about a mile from me.

It was kind of a lazy week, I worked a PC board
project but didn't make much headway.
Played on the radio a bit on Net105, with Robust
Packet and HF Packet, but I wasn't motivated to
make a bunch of contacts.
Our weather has finally started warming up during
the day. It has been 75 to 80 most of the week. I
managed to get a few walks in, and yesterday, I
found a trail that had a bunch of steps, 188 steps
with a 165 ft climb...had to try it. Now I'm paying
for it, legs hurt like blazes.
Yesterday I ordered a new 2000W pure sine wave
inverter, and a 30 Amp MPPT solar controller in prep
for field day. I'm just hoping the the inverter is
going to be RF quiet. The last one I tried using
resulted in a lot of unhappy hams in the campground,
with the noise blanketing the bands. The new units
are supposed to arrive Friday, then I'll test them
out...
We received news that the solar panel installation
on the lower roof of the PREOC in Nelson is completed,
they moved our antenna mounting structures back into
position. So tomorrow, myself, along with a couple
other volunteers will be re-installing the antenna.
Then, we have to take down the antenna on the upper
roof for the installation of solar panels, and a new
air handling unit. Then the mounting structures have
to be redesigned because the air handling unit stands
23 ft above the roof, and the mounts we have are just
not going to work. Probably have to wait months for
the government to do anything with that...

Jackie's surgery went well. She wasn't in much pain.
Had a lot of restrictions about sleeping on back and
bending over. She is much better today.
My main desktop crashed. So tonight, I am running a
raspberry pi 4. It is actually pretty fast on the
browser.
Wish the wind would lay down. It was pretty harsh
yesterday. Today it was some better, but still rough.

Bob (NY), as noted, the decorations will be up any day.
I don't do well with steps myself. I'll probably go to
a RPi for my BBS, when Windows 10 support ends in late
2025. My BBS turned 31 today.
Bob (OK), hope you can work things out with the
antennas. While not in an HOA, there's no way that
I can physically get up the stairs into my attic. And,
I'm off the air when lightning is around.
Rick, there was a CME late last week, and from what I
understand, HF was basically worthless...it may still
be that way. GL on the antennas and solar panels. And,
the arthritis is giving my legs and feet fits as it is.
Scott, great news on Miss Jackie's surgery...but bummer
on the desktop crashing. It has been breezy here as well.
With the wet ground, some trees in the area were blown
over.
