With today, May 29, 2023, being the US Memorial Day
Holiday, this a reminder that The PCL Net will NOT
meet tonight. The Good Lord willing, the net will
reconvene next Monday, June 5, 2023...and hopefully,
by then, the US "debt ceiling debacle" will be solved.
If not, many hams on Social Security will likely go
QRT and offline (including myself). From what I've
read on the NEWSMAX website, hardliners on both sides
of the political aisle are threatening to kill the
deal "in principle" that House Speaker Kevin McCarthy
and President Joe Biden "worked out".
While everyone doesn't get what they wanted (as is the
case with divided govenment, at least the Republicans
did something...the Democrats just sat on their hands,
wanting a blank check. Obviously, from an economic
standpoint, we can't keep kicking the can down the
road, debt wise. Now, it's like every person in the US
(no matter their age) has to pay $100,000 to even make
a dent in the debt ceiling.
If the default occurs, they say that "benefits for
Social Security recipients and federal employees will
be affected". To me, the first ones to get deprived of
their pay are both houses of Congress, their staffs,
plus the President and Vice President!!
And, you know darn well that the idea of Congress having
to forfeit their pay, or the idea of term limits, will
NEVER see the light of day in Congress.
