WX4QZ:

Another net holiday is coming up on next Monday,
July 3...the PCL Net will not meet that night.
Either Bob or I will send out a reminder message.
Hard to believe 2023 is nearly half over. Time
for the Christmas In July sales (hi hi).

I hope the fireworks aren't too bad. There may be a
law against it, but so many feel it doesn't apply
to them. Yet, if you turn them in, and they find
out, they'll kill you, and ransack your place.

Widespread severe storms with hail to the size
of softballs and winds above hurricane force
blasted much of Arkansas last night. No damage
here, but 2 people lost their lives when a tree
fell on their residence. Heat Advisories are in
effect for south Arkansas Tuesday, with Excessive
Heat Warnings likely Wednesday through Saturday.

I had a bone density scan done last Friday, and
it was absolute agony...with pain in my neck, back,
tailbone, left hip, and left knee. I quipped to the
nurse "they shoot horses, don't they??" (hi hi).
When I took the "fall monitor" off before I was to
lie on the table, it thought I had fallen, and
dialed the help center. I had to tell them that I
hadn't fallen, but was getting set for a procedure.
The nurse said "those things can be rather touchy".

My 2 lawn care teams vanished, so I had to find a
new one. I went with LawnStarter, who will come
every 2 weeks to do the lawn, and do the hedges
once a month. I hope I have funding to take care
of all of it. I was able to use a credit from my
HMO to pay a majority of my water/trash bill, and
my HMO paid for the podiatrist visit, so both of
those were a big help this month.

I did nothing for Field Day...just did my nets,
and suspended The Food Net until after Labor Day.

I've got 2 folks signed up for the Technican exam
next Saturday. I saw the new General Class exam
books arrived in my P.O. Box, but it'll be Thursday
before I can get them. We'll see how many studied
the wrong material next Saturday (it has happened
before).

GE All!

An uneventful week. Nice weather. The only radio
related thing I did this week was I got my GMRS
license because another friend of mine got his.
I figured he needed somebody to talk to. We have
a really nice GMRS repeater in the neighborhood
that is open to licenses users so I figured
"why not?".

Ah yes! Racing! Flagged some of the IMSA races at
Watkins Glen this weekend.

The first race on Saturday was the Maxda MX5 Cup
race. Youtube video link is this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cZ6ZTp-sgE

The race doesn't really get started until about
the 5:30 point - at 5:45 there's a big wreck right
in front of the flag station I was working. I'm the
guy in that station with the red hat on.

Bob (OK) - yeah, that Lambo was the 2nd IMSA Saturday
race of a few years ago. You might think I'm a crash
magnet - but I flag dozens of races a year and the
"action" is usually somewhere else!

Happy Birthday Rick!

KF5TVG:

GE all!

I did my first solo FD this year. Also helped setup
and take down the local club setup a couple of miles
from my house. They operated 3A from air conditioned
field tents and the Emergency Operations Truck. I
just operated from home as 1E, which is qrp battery
power. That gave me a 10x multiplier, and also a
reason to not be in a hurry to get on the air
immediately. Nobody wants to talk to a low power
station in the beginning!

Anyhow, I took it easy, enjoyed it and got a good
night's sleep.

Not too impressed with the performance of my end fed
half wave antenna, so will need to try something else
next year.

Daryl, I laughed at your story about the technology
calling in for you when you were getting tested.

Bob, seems like the last time you shared a race video,
there was a lambo or something else very expensive
crashing right by your stand...hope that doesn't imply
your are a crash magnet!

Rick have a great birthday! Hope all have a great week.

VA7RBP:

Good evening Daryl and all on the net.

Another busy week. I worked on a couple of laptops, one
had a no power on issue and the other had a broken frame
around the screen.

The one with the power issue, I took to the local computer
shop and they said they couldn't fix it, so I decided to
try and do it myself.

I opened it up with the help of youtube, and found a shorted
SMD cap beside the 5V regulator, replace it with something
similar, and it fired up... The other one is on the bench
waiting for the epoxy to set up.

Also, I was contacted by a HAM wanting to sell several radios,
and a bunch of support stuff. He brought them over yesterday
for me to check out, and add them to the club web page for sale.

Temp today is at 88F, the tomatoes, carrots, and lettuce are
coming along nicely.

No Field Day for me this year, one of those laptops was my
Field Day PC...maybe next year when my back is feeling a
bit better.

Tomorrow is my 71st birthday...

Thanks to Bob for hosting the NET!

Replies from WX4QZ:

Bob (NY) I can't see the need for speed. It reminds me of
the demolition derby deals I saw a Hialeah Speedway over
50 years ago. At least they didn't take out the flag stand.
I hope no one was hurt or killed in that mess.

Bob (OK) at least I know the fall alert pendant works. I
have to charge it every 3 days. FB on the FD operations.
I heard there was a lot of activity on FT-4.

Rick, FB on the computer and ham radio items, and the
garden. Too bad Scott didn't check in tonight...your garden
comments have me wanting a salad...and I was wondering how
Jackie's stuff was doing. And, have a Happy Birthday next
week!!
