WX4QZ:

The weather continues to be wild. Severe storms
affected the area overnight the other night, and
more are in north Arkansas heading this way, but
they might skirt my area to the northeast. Then,
Excessive Heat Warnings and Heat Advisories are
in place much of the week, before more storms
arrive for the weekend. Also, the GFS is wavering
on whether a major hurricane will form in the next
2 weeks, and while it's that time of the season,
none of the models are on to it yet. I'm just glad
I'm not along the coast.

There is a deal before the FCC, that many hams are
lamenting that it'll destroy the hobby...data modes
of commercial entities up against the ham radio band
edges, with spurious emissions, etc. Apparently, it
will be just on HF; but as bad as propagation has
been lately, it's like six of one, and a half dozen
on the other. It looks like things like VHF, UHF,
etc., won't be affected. The lawyers will likely
clean up on whatever's decided...but money talks
before the FCC.

Just before the net, I found out that a long time
ham, who had checked in on the QCWA CQ100 Net,
became a silent key in late June...Dave Raab,
W7DKR. It's bad when the first thing you look at
in the newspaper or QST is the obits/Silent Keys.
I liked what the late Red Skelton noted..."when I
open my eyes, if I don't see candles and smell
flowers, I get up...then, I thumb through Playboy
to get my heart going" (hi hi).

I saw the urologist last Thursday, and got some
medication. The first one they prescribed could
have caused severe vision issues, so I didn't take
it. The replacement came late today, so I'll look
at the side effects in the morning, to see if I can
take it. It's pretty bad when it notes "side effects
may include death"!! Well, what am I taking it for??
(hi hi).

I was up late last night, getting a monthly square
dance publication released, and on the website for
the organization. Now, I have a break from that
until early August. The webhosting fee is to come
out of my bank account within the next week, but
at least the organization reimburses me for it. I
have to reschedule the lawn work until August, due
to funds. I hate to see the cost of the P.O. Box,
but one can only renew it 30 days before it expires.
I hope to do a P.O. Box run soon, but it may be the
only one for the month.

There are big hamfests coming up in my part of the
country (Shreveport, LA...Huntsville, AL...and Mena,
AR), but I don't travel anymore...and they quit
doing one in Little Rock years ago.

I'll try to order food and other items off of the
Amazon website this week, as I have $475 in gift
certificates to use. But, I have to shop and make
a list of things first. Besides food items, I'm
looking at a sciatica belt (to help with the pain)
and numeric decals for my mailbox, among other items.

I just realized I forgot to enable logging, so I
have to retype everything in for the scribe...it
must be Monday!!

NS2B:

GE All.

An uneventful week. I've slowly been relocating the
hamshack back to the basement where it was years ago.
I put up a VHF/UHF J-Pole I'm going to use to get
VARA-FM running. We have a local Winlink node I intend
to use for that.

Anyway, all that work is just about done.

Went to the track Saturday - it was a hot day! And,
the racing was good.

George, let us know what you think of that radio
after you've "wrung it out". I've been thinking
about that one.

KF5JRV:

It has been a good week. I had a starter capacitor
go out on the air conditioning fan. I had to drive
about an hour to get one off the shelf, but I'm
staying cool now.

Picked some pepper, squash, and a few tomatoes.
Jackie's raised beds are starting to produce.

They are forecasting 100 degrees highs for the next
few days. Just hope the AC holds up.

KF5TVG:

GE All.

It has been hot here, too...with "winds sweeping
down the plains".

It's even worse. Tulsa is only ~100 miles from here,
but it seems to be a lot calmer, weather wise.

I tried to retrieve another radiosonde on the 14th.
Had 2 grade school granddaughters with me. Got within
1/4 mile of the landing, but the mud and mosquitoes
convinced us to give it up.

Also found out there is some interest in
ardenmesh.org here. I have started to update/
replace some of the 2.4 Ghz stuff I collected 7
or so years ago. May end up with some 5 Ghz stuff
to link in with the locals. It's interesting
technology, but if you don't have clear
line-of-sight, it's a no go.

Thanks Daryl, and also thanks to Bob for providing
the equipment!

VA7RBP:

GE Daryl and all on NET.

It was hot all week. Yesterday, it got up to 102F,
at the moment, it's cloudy and 85F.

I guess we're on the same wavelength as Scott, had
to replace the air conditioning starter cap on
Thursday.

Arlene decided she wanted to get the air conditioning
serviced just in case...good thing we did. We don't
want it crapping out on us.

We have to keep the place closed up due to the smoke
from the forest fires.

Last weekend, I picked up a 2 meter radio for one of
the guys, but didn't check it out until Friday, it's
only putting out about 5 watts, when it should be 45
watts, so another project in the queue.

I put a new memory battery in the TS-790A and replaced
the 12 volt display bulbs with white LED's and resistors,
so that appears to be good now.

Now, I'm modifying a couple more IC-3230 radios so I
can experiment with ALLSTARLINK some more.

I have a replacement capacitor kit coming next week
for the TS-50, going to try and get that going.

Thanks to Bob for hosting the NET and Daryl for calling
it.

N2GWK:

GE all on the net. Life is good here in Kentucky.

Weather is quite hote for down here, and the AQI
was 155 today in the red, so I've been staying
indoors where the air is a little better.

Feel bad for you guys up in Canada with all the
smoke and such. Stay safe and stay indoors.

I've been playing with a new radio here, Xiegu 6100.
Kind of a fun little radio. As soon as I can get
outdoors, I'm going to POTA.

I'll do a little write up on the x6100 Bob and
send it your way.

the link for who need it is

Replies from WX4QZ:

Bob (NY) fine business on reorganizing the shack.
George's info link is in his comments.

Scott, glad you got the air conditioner working.
For all of us, I hope our AC's hold up.

FB on the garden items.

Bob (OK), bummer on the mud and mosquitoes, but
FB on the ardenmesh -- hope things work out there.

Rick, the smoke and haze is bad down here as well.
GL with fixing the various rig issues.

George, I've noted the air quality alerts all over
the place as well. Never heard of that brand of
radio...I know Bob will appreciate the link.

Dennis connected then dropped, but I'll log him.
