PCL NET SCRIBE JULY 24 2023

Note: Posting of the scribe delayed due to my
running another net, and then my internet
went out again after I finished that other
net. Combine that with being fatigued, I felt
it was best to just go to bed for the night. DS

WX4QZ:

Bob (NY) has another commitment tonight, so he
won't be here...but he'll be back next week.

Our next net holiday is Monday, Sept. 4; the
PCL Net won't meet that night. I did remember
to activate logging tonight, so I don't have
to retype everything for the scribe, which
I'll post sometime Tuesday.

Severe storms and flash flooding last Friday
played havoc with my internet...I couldn't do
the Trains Net on Friday night or the QCWA
Digital Net Sunday afternoon. When your internet
drops 3 times in 30 minutes, that's not good. It
was stable today, but I don't want to talk about
it much, or I may jinx myself (hi hi). We're in
a dry spell for a bit, but the heat is to return
this week...and our hottest part of the year is
still 3 weeks away.

The last set of Hormel Compleats from Amazon should
arrive Tuesday. Everything else I had ordered with
the $475 in gift cards from the Amtrak Guest Rewards
points that I had cashed in, has arrived, with all
the food crammed in the refrigerator. I won't need
groceries until maybe October. Besides the Hormel
Compleats, I got several small macaroni and cheese
deals (both microwaveable), and a bunch of Grandma's
cookie snacks for my sweet tooth.

With the health rewards from my HMO, I'll use them
to get some cough drops, eye drops, and saline
solution to prevent nosebleeds. I feel so much
better when I don't have to worry about funds. As
the saying goes, "I'm only one step away from
being rich. All I need is money" (hi hi). That's
why H.A.M. stands for H)aven't A)ny M)oney; never
mind H)ave A)nother M)eal, and you don't call us
late for dinner (hi hi).

The HotSpot Raspberry Pi SBC ZumSpot Net is MOVING
from the QuadNet Array after tonight, July 24, to
the Kansas Wide Fusion Network...it'll be held on
Wednesday at 10pm Eastern, 9pm Central Time, as of
August 2. www.kansascitywide.com -- the only night
during the week I won't have a net to run is on
Thursday, and I likely will just use that for some
optional net checkins. I really don't want to be
running nets on a daily and nightly basis.

I was advised that the reimbursement check for the
square dance website fees is on the way. That'll
go toward paying the property taxes, due by early
October (I'll lose everything I have otherwise).
At least next year, I only have to pay the real
estate tax...had I sold my car prior to June 1
last year, I would've saved $75. Terminix set up
a monthly payment for the pest control and termite
protection...that makes things a lot easier. I may
only renew the Post Office Box for 6 months to
save money...I only can go there once a month via
Lyft, anyway. Plus, I have to get the lawn mowed
again; for all the rain we've had, the grass and
weeds are growing like mad.

KE4QCM:

GE Daryl, thanks for running the net. I'm fine, glad
to checkin with you all tonight been a while.

Ok, FB Charley, been trying to get packet going in N. GA
past few years, mainly on 145.710 sometimes 145.590 and
145.750

**

VA7RBP:

GE Daryl and all on NET.

Another HOT week here, temps mostly in the 90s, but there
have been a few over 100. We do our outside runs in the
morning and get home ASAP to the cool of the A/C house!

I have been working on my ALLSTARLINK project, I now have
4 private nodes set up, 3 radios modified to output COR
signals, and now testing interfaces and cables. Just
found one interface that is not seeing the COR signal,
so I will have to investigate...

I still need three VHF antennas before I can attempt an
on-air trial. More $$$ I don't have.

I just received the capacitor kit for the TS-50 rig...the
buggers did not send any SMD caps...grr.

Well, at least I have some electorlytics to start with,
maybe I'll get lucky and they will be the fix...

Just been working on projects, playing on the radio a
bit here and there.

NT5R:

GE everyone.

Few cooler days here with some rain, warming up again.
Thermometer shows 95.9 f high today (reads just a bit
high).

GOOD workout Saturday and Sunday, helped friend move for
the third time in about five years. Pickup truck comes in
handy. She said this is LAST time moving, have heard that
story before!

But it good way to help out, and no need to go to gym when
doing that.

Hamfest last weekend in Washington, Missouri. Was looking
at stack of hamstick antennas. Fellow said two dollars for
all of them. Couple of Hustlers in the pile also.

Make good hamstick dipole with MFJ adapter, or just lay them
out on board end to end

Thank you Daryl for our net. How do you like the RPi Zumspot.
Do not have rf hotspot but likely eventually will experiment
with that.

Tom, if you still there, visit Carrolton GA area several times
yearly to visit brother. There for Field Day this year, very
active local clut did 5A plus GOTA station. TALL pine trees to
hang dipole antennas. Sometimes monitor Atlanta frequencies
via online SDR. Wonde what your local packet frequencies there?

Daryl, would be interested in password for the Kansas net, I
originally from Kansas, and know some hams in Kansas.

KF5JRV:

Good evening everyone,

It has been a good week. We had a streak of cooler weather
that ended today.

The tomatoes are starting to come in. Hoping the AC holds out
this week.

Played with a Rpi some this week. Trying to set it up as a
packet node.

I have a ham stick dipole up for 10 and 20 meters. It does
pretty well on the higher freq. If you have the sticks, it is
worth playing with.

Replies from WX4QZ:

Tom, we're glad to have you tonight...feel free to come back
when your schedule permits. I know Charley appreciates the
packet frequencies....and thanks for the QSO before the net.

Rick, I don't blame you wanting to get the outside tasks
done before the hot weather sets in...it's the same here.
FB on the ALLSTARLINK projects, and I know about the lack
of funds!! And, bummer on the lack of SMD caps for those
capacitors.

Charley, I know the YL appreciated your help with the move,
but I've heard "those famous last words" before, myself!!
I used to have those Hamsticks...they really do the job.
That was a great deal that you got on them!! As for the
RPi ZumSpot, I'm just Net Control for that net. I joke
that "I don't know much about a Raspberry Pi, but a
pineapple upside down cheesecake sounds good" (hi hi).
That net is MOVING next week from the QuadNet Array on
Monday evening (which had been shortly after this net)
to the Kansas Area Wide Fusion Net, on Wednesday, at 9pm
Central Time. www.kansascitywide.com has all of the
connection options, with links to their nets and their
repeaters.

Scott, last weekend was nice...but it didn't last. FB
on the tomatoes...agree, hope the AC holds out. GL on
setting up the RPi as a packet node. And, agreed on
the hamsticks.
