WX4QZ:
The PCL Net will meet next Monday, Aug. 28,
but will take Monday, Sep. 4 off for Labor Day.
My internet dropped at 4:30am this morning,
but it came back around 10am. I originally
thought a technician wouldn't be by until late
Tuesday, which would've meant I wouldn't have
been here tonight. With the intense heat, I
wouldn't be surprised if more outages occur.
As long as I can keep power and air conditioning,
I can do without internet and my ham radio nets
for a bit.
My lawn guy comes in the morning...hopefully,
the hot and dry weather (no rain is expected
for at least a week or two), will slow down the
grass growing. I'll be glad when it goes dormant
for the winter. The tropics are really active,
but the models are all over the place as to what
will occur after 5 days...typical.
I heard the crowd at the Shreveport, LA Hamfest
was less than expected, but they had a good crowd
at the Huntsville, AL hamfest. Several dealers
didn't show up, though, and they didn't tell the
organizers they weren't coming...so that meant
empty tables. The Mena, AR hamfest is coming up
after Labor Day, but I won't be going.
The FCC electronic batch filing system is back
up after being down a week...so backlogged exam
session data, upgrades, callsign changes, etc.
can be processed. I figured out the problem with
D-Rats not showing the maps...it was errors in
the URLs.
I stopped doing my Food Net on Saturday, due to
medical issues, and instead, check into a similar
net on the Kansas City Wide Fusion Network. I can
not sit at the computer for long periods of time
anymore...for the back and eye strain. I'll still
post stuff from The Food Network into the 2 groups
on Facebook I started for the net. It gives me 1
net each day Saturday through Wednesday, 2 nets on
Friday, and Thursday is my off night.
I see my PCP for a full physical just after Labor
Day. I'll have to fast for that, but I'm hoping to
get my yearly flu shot. However, I've decided to
forego any further covid-19 shots, especially after
the bad reaction I had to the 3rd booster.
The copy and paste helps me, as the dry corneas
make it rough looking at the computer screen for
a long time. I did remember to activate the log
capture buffer this week.

The week was uneventful. Didn't do much radio
stuff this week.
As you mentioned - went camping at Watkins Glen
track for the NASCAR event. We had truly screwy
weather for the 4 days we were there. Hot/humid
on Thursday, rain on Friday, COLD on Saturday,
and then a perfect day yesterday. It was a good
weeknd, but now I'm tired, and it's good to be
home!!
I get to mow my yard tomorrow. It's starting to
look like a hay field.

GE all, I am Carl, and this is my first PACNET. I
planned to join last week, but totally forgot until
it was too late. Tonight, I set an alarm.
Sorry about my bad typing. I guess I should pre-type
this stuff and cut and paste :-)
I have been interested in packet lately, and wish I
could join by radio, but with a ground-floor apartment,
my connectivity is not great. I can reach one solid
digipeater, but have not figured out how to get here by
radio, so I am on telnet tonight. I am just glad I made
it.
I have been trying to setup my own BBS, and also just
organizing all my radio manuals and stuff into a nice
private web page.
I guess that's about all I have for my first time.

Yes, I saw it was not set when I logged in. My QTH is
Melbourne, Florida, just about an hour south of Cape
Canaveral on what is called the "Space Coast." Even at
this distance we get some nice views of launches from
the Cape.
Well, that cut and paste did not work. Looks like I need
some experience with this :-)
I do see progress on the Brightline every time I drive to
see "the mouse." It will be nice when it is available,
but I wish they would put a station in Melbourne.
Glad to be here. Somehow I am connected in a way that
backspace does not work.

It has been a hard time staying cool.
The vegtable garden is starting to show some signs of
heat stress. Maybe by the weekend we will get relief.
I would like to welcome Carl. Don't worry about typing.
We all have plenty of time.
It is good to see a new call sign.
Hope Bob's wife makes a speedy recovery. Wish that
everyone stays cool till the heat wave is over.

Sorry I'm late. Daughter and family came over for dinner.
Also, it's slow going to get xyl in bed. She had tendon
repair surgery a month ago, and her mobility is not great,
yet.
I'm ready for fall! It has been soooo hot here. Triple
digits for days on end. Yard is stressed as much as I am!
Not much to report on the radio front. I rearranged my work
bench after thinking a few months ago exactly how I wanted
it. Oh Well. We'll see how long this works.

Bob (NY), glad you made it back from the camping trip OK.
There's no place like home...especially for one's own
bed and potty (hi hi). Bummer that the weather wasn't
perfect the whole time you were there. And, thanks for
providing the BBS for us.
Paul's HF is lagging, and his email is wrong, so I have
no way to contact him.
Carl, welcome to the net. We're here every Monday, at 8pm
Eastern Time, except for during holiday weeks. I have to
operate telnet/internet only, as I'm a heart patient. Don't
worry about the typing...the copy and paste does make it
easier at times. I've watched a lot of Virtual Railfan
videos from there with Brightline. I'm sure they'll add
more stops after the Orlando Service starts Sept. 1.
Scott, I can understand about the crops stressing from
the heat...I saw a post from the National Weather Service
saying heat is the number one killer.
Bob (OK), no problem with being late...family comes first.
