KX4AC (via email):

Sorry I can’t be here in person. I have a ham
radio club meeting tonight. I'll be back next
week.

I had a pretty good Labor Day weekend. I was
able to hear the ISS call down to a school in
Georgia, so that was fun. When I was little,
we watched Alan Shepard’s hop into space on
our black and white television. Now, I listen
to the crew of the ISS flying overhead. It all
still amazes me. I like watching airplanes take
off and land at the airport, too.

Over the weekend, I did some film developing
and scanning. I still have the old Nikon F2
that I bought when I was in college. I have
digital cameras too, but I still like film.
If I want the technically best pictures with
minimum effort, I take the digital. If I want
to have fun, I use film.

This last weekend, it was finally cool enough
to start taking my morning walks again. On
Sunday, it was only 75 degrees at 7 AM. It is
still very humid, but at least it is tolerable
in the morning.

I need to get back working on my Raspberry PI
power supply for the packet station. I want
something with a little more current supply
and with a crowbar for over-voltage protection.
I don’t entirely trust the cheap Chinese 12V
to 5V thing I am using right now. I just need
to spend a little time on the workbench to finish
it.

I guess that’s about all for now. Take care, and
73's to everyone.

WX4QZ:

Early checkin from Carl, KX4AC...his comments are
in the scribe prior to this paragraph. There are 3
remaining "net holidays" in 2023...Nov. 20 during
Thanksgiving Week, then of course, on Dec. 25 and
Jan. 1, both on Monday this year. The PCL Net will
take those nights off.

Hard to believe it has been 22 years since that
day across the US (9/11)...our thoughts and
prayers are with those who were affected, to
this day. I'm sure many of us remember what we
were doing, and where we were on that fateful
day back in 2001.

A severe storm with macroburst winds around
hurricane force hit west Little Rock recently.
Thankfully, no damage occurred here, but over
15,000 were without power. More storms are
forecast here overnight through the rest of
the week, but I should be able to post the net
scribe before I shut down for the night. We
need the rain badly (several counties are under
burn bans), but we can do without the severe
weather.

I paid the personal property and real estate taxes
for both my brother and myself last week, nearly
$450. He doesn't have a computer (he hates them),
but I didn't want to risk a fight with him...with
him losing his property, then try to freeload here.
I warned him "next year, you're on your own". He
apparently gets more money than I do, but spends
it like water, eating out every day. To me, if he
can afford to do that, he can afford to pay his
bills. He has no hobbies, and is like a caged wild
animal, if he is stuck at home. I go out to the
Post Office Box once a month, and for medical
appointments when needed; but otherwise, I'm home
24/7. At least I can get groceries and medications
delivered. If I can do my hobbies at the computer,
I'm content, and have plenty to keep busy with;
especially since I rarely get or make phone calls,
or have any visitors or company...living a lonely
life of isolation. If I had no computer, internet,
or cellphone, no one would know whether or not I
was a Silent Key.

A note to Scott, KF5JRV...I enjoy reading your
"Today In History" postings, but I have to add
a comment to one from this past week about the
"Nude King David" sculpture by Michelangelo. I
saw a photoshopped meme of it, showing the statue
with a huge pot-belly stomach, and it said that
"the statue tour was being canceled, because it
promoted 'obesity'". Yet, after the holiday time
of year, we'll all resemble that remark (hi hi).

Speaking of which, my A1C is now at 6.2, the
highest it has ever been...just shy of the type 2
diabetes threshold...at least the blood sugar was
at 95. The triglycerides were in the 250's, but
they've been much higher than that in the past.
My Lasix and Potassium were doubled as a result.
So, I'll be staying home much more than usual,
and that wasn't my pee-rogative (hi hi). Also,
my scales at the house are screwed...I have to
weigh with my Brahma Work Boots on, so I don't
fall, and put my full weight on there. So, that
adds a few extra pounds to the true weight. Yet,
I need to build up insulation for the cold winter
ahead (hi hi). I've seen varying outlooks as to
what it might be in the MidSouth.

And, speaking of weather, portions of New England
and Atlantic Canada may have to deal with Hurricane
Lee late this week. Yesterday, was the peak of the
season, but there's still well over 2 1/2 months
left. He'll be a minimal hurricane, or a strong
tropical storm, but he'll still cause issues.

N3LBP:

Not much. Sorry been missing you guys so much in
the group.

Just working in the shack most of the time on
many things. Moving my packet bbs very soon, and
many new add ons with HF and UHF hook ups.

Lost my one location but found a new one now so
all good.

Love the net, keep up the good work, and lets make
packet strong again like the old days.

See you next week 73.

NS2B:

GE All.

It was a busy week.

Several trips out to Syracuse to look in on
MaryJo's Mom. They've finally hired some
caretakers, so our trips there can slow down.

Went down to the track Wednesday, and flagged
the test sessions for the weekends Vintage
Grand Prix. A bunch of nice cars down there.

Got my Winlink VARA-FM setup going on VHF.
It works pretty slick.

And now I need a nap! hihi

Congrats to Rick and Arlene - enjoy your trip!

Everyone have a good week! 73.

KE4LRS:

Hello Everyone, Thanks for having me on the
net tonight.

This is my first time on this net, and very
first time on a packet net, so just learning
how to do this.

Thanks for the warm welcome to the net. I
will try to check in next week also.

**

VA7RBP:

Good evening Daryl and all on the NET.

It has been a pretty good couple of weeks.

Arlene and I celebrated our 50th on the 25th
of August with a trip to the coast. Then, we
have just been relaxing since. This coming
Thursday, we will be leaving for Manzanita,
OR for a week to visit with some old friends,
so I won't be here for next weeks session of
the NET.

I haven't done anything with the TS-50 that
I was working on...have to finish the vacation,
then maybe I'll get into the right frame of
mind...

Thanks for the good wishes!

That's it for me. Everyone have a great week,
stay well, and 73 until next time.

KF5TVG:

GE Daryl and all on the net!

Congrats to Rick on 50 years of wedded bliss!

Welcome to Kevin, hope to see you again soon.

Not much to report. Finally out of triple
digit temps! Currently 71F and raining here
on the plains. Thursday's high will be 69F,
then back into high 80s/low 880s for awhile.

Got started with "HAMWORD" over the last few
weeks. It's similar to wordle, only you use
winlink to send a message to HAMWORD to guess
at the 5 letter word. You have 6 tries and
there is a new word each week.

Thanks to Daryl and Bob (NY) for all you guys
do every week!

Also, thanks to Daryl for reminding us of the
legacy of K.O. and Billie!

73 to all and have a great week.

KF5JRV:

Good evening everyone.

I almost forgot the net. I lost track of the
time.

It has been a good week. It has cooled off
and is sprinkling some. It is starting to
feel like fall.

Jackie is getting ready for the farmers market.
I think this weekend is a big motorcycle rally.

I will have to dig out my jacket in a few more
weeks.

I have plans for a 6 Meter APRS node. I have
all my stuff just need to put the antenna up.

It is good to see some new checkins on the net.

Congrats to Rick and Arlene.

Hope everyone has a good week.

Replies from WX4QZ:

First, I guess we lost Charley...I'll note him
as a bean for the count.

Carl, thanks for the email, so I could add it
to the scribe. Hope the club meeting was
enjoyable.

Bob (NY), FB on the caretakers, racetracks,
cars, and the VARA setup.

I didn't get a nap today, and after I post the
scribe, I may go to bed early, and skip the
other 2 nets I normally check into.

Kevin, welcome to the net. We're here every
Monday, except for weeks of major US holidays
(Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor
Day, Thanksgiving Week, Christmas, and New
Years).

Normally, what you do, is press <ENTER> when
you are called on...that lets us know that a
response is forthcoming. When done, type 3
greater than signs >>>, and that lets us know
you're finished for that round.

Rick, congratulations to you and Arlene on
the golden wedding anniversary...enjoy the
vacation. The TS-50 can wait...as you said, got
to have the right state of mind. I'll give you
a courtesy check next week.

Bob (OK), I hope you meant the high 80s and low
90s...the low 880s seems a bit toasty!! (hi hi).

I never heard of HAMWORD...I've got some word
and other games I play on my BBS to keep my
mind sharp.

My guess is that the PCL net is 30 years old,
if not more. My favorite, though is "The E.D.
Net"...go to http://www.wx4qz.net/elk.htm and
click on the link for that. About a year after
Billie passed away, K.O. was on the net, and I
retold the story. K.O. replied "It was so
refreshing to hear that again, and it happened
EXACTLY the way that Daryl told it!!".

Scott, I have to make myself notes on what day
of the week it is, and what net I'm supposed
to be running that evening.

I posted a deal to you before you got here,
that's in the scribe above, so I won't rehash
it here.

FB on the Farmers Market and the cooler
weather.

At times, my data from D-Rats shows up on
aprs.fi, but at other times, it does not;
and I'm not sure why.
