WX4QZ:

My NetGear Router Extender failed yesterday,
and with my being unable to set up the Wi-Fi
on my Hamshack Hotline phone (let alone to buy
a replacement right now), I won't be available
via that mode until further notice. I knocked
over a bunch of stuff in my klutziness yesterday;
I decided it was best to do as little as possible.
It's like when I feel the urge to do some cleaning,
I lie down until the urge goes away (hi hi).

We had more storms over the weekend, but aside
from some rain here, not much to note. It looks
to be dry all the way through next Sunday. My
lawn will get mowed again next Tuesday, and maybe
one more mowing in early November, before the winter
dormant period...that'll save me some money for a
few months. I'll be glad when the cooler weather
arrives. Still curious as to what the weather will
bring for the MidSouth...several outlooks point to
a snowy winter for the northeast US. I wonder if
Punxatawney Phil is looking at the data (hi hi).

I have mail waiting in the Post Office Box, but
I'm trying to stretch what food I have until
next Tuesday, when my next disability payment
comes in. I'm waiting for 1 more bill arrival,
which should be minor, to determine whether I
order some food to hold me over, or make a Post
Office Box run. With a driver shortage, I don't
want to risk getting stranded, especially with
being on Lasix twice a day now (that wasn't my
Pee-Rogative (hi hi))...and the driver shortage
would also affect the cost of the roundtrip. I'm
not sure which is worse...running out of food,
money, or toilet paper (hi hi).

The one net I've been running on CQ100 will go QRT
on Friday. Checkins have declined for the last
several months, and there's no point in doing a net
without checkins. I use CQ100 sparingly (just like
Echolink, Skype, and X (formerly Twitter)), but I
can still use CQ100 to checkin to another net, or
for a sked...which have been few and far between.
I check RMS Express for Winlink sparingly, but don't
use it that much, but I check to see if there are
any early checkins for this net.

I was monitoring Brightline in Florida for the start
of their service between Orlando International
Airport, and downtown Miami, on the site of the
original Florida East Coast Railroad depot. It looks
like there was a lot of excitement, and quite a few
riders...hopefully, that'll be a good option between
south and central Florida...it'll take many of the
cars off of I-4, I-95, and the Florida Turnpike. The
fare isn't cheap round trip for premium class, but
from what I saw, it's worth it. I understand on the
first day, several folks did the round trip, and all
enjoyed it. LoneStar Trip Reports has a video on
YouTube about his experience.

NS2B:

GE All!

Been busy helping my son prep his house for sale.

And I've been taking an Astronomy class at the
local community college - had to "cram" over the
last few days for test tomorrow. I think I'll do
ok.

And thanks to Oklahoma Bob I've been play Hamword
on Winlink - I think I have this weeks word in 2
tries - but we'll see.

Not much else going on.

VA7RBP:

GE Daryl and all on NET.

The trip was really good, the drive was long and
tiring...for me.

We broke up the drive, stayed overnight at the
halfway point (Kennewick, WA) both ways.

It was great to visit with old friends, relaxed
for a couple days, caught up on conversations left
off 20 years ago...

Glad to be home! We got back last Tuesday. Over the
week, I've been trying to get an HF port running on
the Pi NODE, had a few hiccups with USB serial ports
getting juggled, and getting piQtSoundModem to work
properly.

Still attempting to learn 'C' programming on the
ESP32. Didn't touch any of my bench projects.

Maybe next week...or the week after, as next week
I have to go for the dreaded colonoscopy...

KX4AC:

GE All!

Gee, I had not heard about the "suicide", but I did
get stopped at a railroad crossing the other day,
and it was a Brightline train that rolled past.
Usually it's just freight trains.

The weather has been much better, and I have been
enjoying my morning walks. I even wore a sweater
Saturday morning! Still a bit rainy, but getting
better.

I have been waiting for a FedEx package from MFJ
for almost two weeks. It seems to always be "in
Memphis" and "on the way."

Well, I finally got a hold of a human being at FedEx
and after some questioning they finally told me "The
package was empty so it is undeliverable." I am not
sure if I should believe them, or if that is just
what they tell people when they lose the package,
but MFJ is going to send me a replacement, so
hopefully this time I will get it. I will know
tomorrow.

I did mean to mention that I have started playing
hamwords after hearing about it here. It seems like
it will be fun, but it will be more than two guesses
for me this week.

Bob (OK), tell the XYL to hang in there. I have had
hip replacements, so I know it is a long slog, but
it is worth it in the end.

KF5JRV:

GE everyone.

It was a good week. The rain put a crimp in some of
our plans but the weather was pleasant. It is starting
to feel like fall. It is already sunset. Not to much
longer till cooler temps.

**

KF5TVG:

Sorry, I was getting caught up on the Brightline!

Had a busy, but good week. XYL is slowly recovering
from her hip surgery 8 weeks ago. She thought it
should be over with by now, but it was a pretty big
deal, and will take a long time to recover.

Made a presentation to local club on tracking/chasing/
retrieving radiosondes recently. I didn't plan on
being the local expert, but that's what happens
sometimes when you ask "Who's the expert on this?"
and there is not an expert already!

See w5nor.org/radiosondes for the grainy video and
more importantly a link to the power point slides.

I mentioned making an ft8 contact a few weeks ago to
a lady on Pitcairn Island. I've since looked up her
bio on QRZ, and she is a 7th generation descendant
of the Bounty mutineers. Now I need to go read the
book "Mutiny on the Bounty" for the whole story.

Glad to hear several of you have started doing HAMWORD.
I'll tell the developer, Mark Kleine here in Norman
that he has some "packet" guys in the mix, too.

Thanks to Bob NY for the use of the equipment, and to
Daryl for running the net tonight.

Replies from WX4QZ:

Bob (NY), FB on helping your son, the astronomy
class, and HamWord. There are a lot of activities
for Arkansas next April, as the northwest half of
the state will be in the eclipse path. The hotels
are charging over $700 a night for the expected
tourist influx.

Rick, FB on the trip and on the PiNode Project.
I'm waiting to see who my new GI doctor will be,
but if they don't give me "the right prep work"
(that's the worst part), and make me pay the
cost, I'll just do the home ColoGuard test. GL
with that...hope you can get to your bench projects
again soon.

Carl, from what I understand, it was before the
Miami -> Orlando or Orlando -> Miami train. But,
even if they didn't have that, you'd still be
dealing with those suicide attempts. That's a
permanent solution to a temporary problem.

Bummer on the loss of the package. I've gotten
so where if I can't get it locally, I do without
it.

Scott, I too, am looking forward to the cooler
weather. It will be warmer for a bit, but the
cooler weather is on the way.

Bob (OK), there is a lot on Brightline on YouTube.

FB on your XYL's recovery from hip surgery. I likely
need both hip and knee surgery, but can't afford it,
and the house isn't handicapped accessible...and I
likely can't afford the home health care.

FB on the club presentation with the radiosondes.
Each of us is an expert in some part of the hobby.

FB on the FT8 contact on Pitcairn Island...and
very interesting on her family history.
