IO-86 is in a good health and fully functional (never die) and it is
approaching the 2 anniversary next month.

APRS is a full digipeater, please use YBSAT as the PATH.

Due to power management, the APRS and voice payload are only activated once
a day, on separate pass.
Additional voice activation on weekends.

IO-86 is very popular close to the equator , such as India, and Thailand,
with majority from Indonesia and Malaysia, and Brazil (special request for
voice activation).

Hi Matt. I'll be heading to my Florida home in a few days and would like to
try and work you on IO-86. Only problem is when's the last time the
transponder was on? I forgot about this one...

Basically the only regularly-active ops who can really work IO-86 from the
US are myself and KO4MA. I've been on a few 1-3? passes when the repeater
happened to be active while southern Florida had footprint. It has a very
loud 5w downlink, and is easy to work with an HT at that elevation. I
suppose it doesn't make much sense to include it in the comms satellite
lists on the Amsat site, since its virtually not usable from the US however.

It definitely hasn't died, and is regularly active over Indonesia and
Brazil, on a published schedule.

I bought a used IC-910H on ebay for satellite work an am having a possible
issue with it.

I tested the 2m and 70cm transmitter and receiver in FM mode with my
handheld and they work fine. I hooked up a Bird 43 wattmeter with a 50E
slug (50W, 400-1000Mhz) and when I transmit on 440Mhz FM I get an
indication of power output on the meter. So far so good...

Then in USB/LSB mode however, I get no indication on the meter, despite
turning the mic gain up and talking into the mic. I've also up'ed the RF
power with the little knob and that doesn't help. The red light flashes on
the rig (ALC indication) and the meter on the rig moves. I can also hear
distorted audio on my FM handheld (as expected since it's FM and not USB)
but I'm worried about the lack of power indicated on the Bird. I haven't
been able to try CW yet because I don't have the right sized plug. Should I
be concerned about the lack of power?

Summary: Bird wattmeter shows power out on FM, but not on USB/LSB.

Thanks

Peter

Yes, and I know the mic works because I can hear it on my handheld when in
FM mode.

Peter are you speaking loudly

The energy in an fm envelope is way larger than a side band transmission

The fact that your reaching an alc level seems to indicate the radio is
doing its job

Pity u don't have USB rx

Do you have a software defined radios ?

I do have a little USB SDR. I plan hook that up tonight to see if I can see
an indication of signal. I don't want to furiously try to contact someone
via satellite and find out I'm not putting out any power.

I've never owned this rig until a couple days ago so there's always a
possibility I'm doing something wrong.

I talked my test equipment mate

You would have to whistle fairly loudly to get a swing on the bird

Scott,

What kind of digipeater is it? We need to know how to parse the digi path
to pull it out as a satellite digipeated packet.

What aliases does it support? Only YOBX-1 as a path? or does it also
support APRSAT and ARISS?

Does it do callsign substitution or insertion?

IE, when it digipeates on an alias does it do substitution like this:
YBOX-1*,

Or does it do substitution like this: YBOX-1,APRSAT*?

Then Steve can add a parser for it to show up on pcsat.findu.com

Bob

Oh hey, that's one of mine! LAPAN-A2/ORARI is carrying a Tracker2 as a
sub-payload.

Andrew,

It really isn't rocket science to put "Indonesia YB0X" into Google and
