Hello Everyone,

Planning is underway for articles going into the November/December

We would like to include as much coverage as possible of the W1AW/P
events on the satellites. Please send your commentary and photos (JPG
hi-res files work best) to me at k9jkm@xxxxxxx.xxx or

Last pass of AO-73 I worked WN9Q, N5ZNL with strong but fading signals.
Then at the end of the pass I worked N8IUP for my satellite qso number
7000!!!!
This only took me 38 years!!!!!!

I am running the free version of HRD and of late have been experiencing
a strange problem. The program runs but initializes extremely slowly.
It takes at least 4 minutes to begin working. I am just using the
satellite tracking portion of the software. The machine here runs
Windows8.1 with all the updates. There isn't a virus or spyware problem
according to my diagnostic software. All other programs perform
normally. I have made sure that no other extraneous programs are
running. Can anyone shed light on this unusual situation?

This is normal for HRD. Especially the free. I can't vouch for the
newest versions that require purchase. The then developers of HRD were
notified of this and the intent was to separate its operation from the
the main portion of HRD. They never had a chance prior to its being sold.

Again, I can't vouch for the newest bought version. Hence, the reason
you see most people using SatPC32, and others. I have noticed this
problem on every version of Windows I have run, from ME to Windows 8
including different machine speeds and types.

HRD runs fine. It's not until you try to implement the satellite
tracking portion. I still use HRD here for HF, etc, but not for
satellite tracking.

For additional clarification, the free version I am running (the last
one I think) is Version v build 2893.

I know that Rick is very interested in getting the satellite portion of HRD
more widely used, and has
been upgrading some of the functions and general compatibility "under the
hood." If you are a paid
subscriber, be sure to let them know of any issues. Right now they are
working on a public beta, and
can use the input. Understandably, the old versions are not actively
supported.

A TuPOD should be deployed from the ISS in Spring 2015 then 2 days later it
will eject two TubeSats. The TuPOD electronics have been designed by
students at Morehead State University and is an updated version of $50SAT
PocketQube electronics and Telemetry, Tracking & Command (TT&C) system.

AMSAT is excited to announce that a new premium collectable is now available
for qualifying donations to the Fox satellite program. AMSAT has
commissioned a unique challenge coin for donors who have contributed at the
$100 level or higher. This challenge coin is shaped as an isometric view of
a Fox-1 CubeSat, complete with details such as the stowed UHF antenna, solar
cells, and camera lens viewport. Struck in 3mm thick brass, plated with
antique silver, and finished in bright enamel, the coin is scaled to be
approximately 1:4 scale, or 1 inch along each of the six sides. The reverse
has the AMSAT Fox logo. The design may be seen at
http://www.amsat.org/?p=3275

The coins are scheduled for delivery just prior to the 2014 AMSAT Space
Symposium, and will be first distributed to donors attending the Symposium.
Coins will also be made available to qualifying donors that have contributed
since the Fox-1C announcement on July 18, 2014 upon request. Donations may
be made via the AMSAT website at www.amsat.org, via the FundRazr
crowdsourcing app at fnd.us/c/6pz92, or via the AMSAT office at (888)
322-6728.

The Fox program is designed to provide a platform for university experiments
in space, as well as provide FM repeater capability for radio amateurs
worldwide. Fox-1A and 1C are set to launch in 2015, and Fox-1B (also known
as RadFXSat) is awaiting NASA ELANA launch assignment. Further information
on the Fox project can be found at www.amsat.org.

I bounce back and forth from SatPC32 and HRD for the satellite tracking. ?If
I want to just leave my station on 'auto pilot' ?on a certain bird or ISS,
HRD does a great job in controlling the rig, but I still have to run SatPC32
to control the rotor(s). HRD won't control my Fox Delta controller, and
SatPC32 won't run a rigs frequency smoothly at all for me and my 706mk2g. ?
Anyway, still have no issues on it opening up. ?I do however have a crash
just about every day on the HRD digital master only (all other parts
continue to run just fine). ?This crash happens at least once a day and
without warning naturally, so I try to use other programs for digital when I
can....?
Not Really worried about it too much yet, ?as I am still just listening to
others talk (phone) ?to get a good idea of proper etiquette .... But
learning that so many are way too quick on the trigger leaving little
opportunity for others, as well as talking about the weather and other
trivial stuff. Almost no chance for me to get on when I try as a
result...... So much for etiquette!?

I would suggest just doing a clean reinstall of HRD. Remove the one you have
now first. Sorry I don't have a better solution or answer.?

If he would be a bit more accommodating to non paid subscribers, he would
get more paid subscribers. I will not pay for a program that I know won't do
as I desire on the hopes he might fix it... Not to likely, especially if he
already has the $$$..... . I would however, be more than happy to buy a
program that does offer some promise, especially considering the rest of his
work is rather nice/top of the line for a 'all in one'... Hands down.?
