With today's big X9.3 solar flare, AMSAT would like to collect as much
telemetry as possible from AO-85 over the next 48 hours or so. If you can,
please run FoxTelem
(https://www.amsat.org/foxtelem-software-for-windows-mac-linux/) and feed
the program unfiltered audio such as from a 9600 baud jack or an SDR
receiver. This will allow us to identify any unusual effects onboard the
satellite.

Thanks and 73,

We have already seen two resets today, so the more stations, the better
chance of getting full coverage.

This is probably too late to be useful but instructions on how to set up
SDR# and FoxTelem are here.

Hi Drew,

I really need to get FoxTelem to run properly on my system... My
preference would be to directly feed the SDR output into the telemetry
program input, but I can't figure out how to connect the dots.
Recording a pass and then post-processing it is a bit of a pain (hence
my opening statement).

The system is running Linux, and I have a generic RTL-SDR dongle. GQRX
software talks to it perfectly. I can even control it from software
such as gPredict for Doppler tracking, so I know all that stuff is
working. But how to feed the audio into FoxTelem? I was hoping the SDR
would be one of the "audio sources" to select (IP Port), but it doesn't
show up there. I'm running FoxTelem 1.4.

Is this possible? The user guide seems to think so...

Hey there, Greg.

Easily the most handy thing I've put on my Ubuntu linux system is the Pulse
Audio Volume Control utility. It provides a GUI to easily control what
audio device each app plays OUT to, as well as what audio device some other
app records FROM. So, it's very straightforward to route the audio to suit
any need you might have when you want to do something like send your SDR
audio to an SSTV decoder or in this case, the FoxTelem app.

(Tip: you'll normally want to record from the "monitor" of your audio
device... you'll see it on the drop-down)

(Tip #2: you won't see an app in the utility until it's actually playing
or recording)

To install: sudo apt-get install pavucontrol

... and to run it: pavucontrol

Of course, I use it so much that once it's running, I right-click the icon
to "Lock to Launcher" so that I can run it the next time with just a click.

Hope that helps!

I have been accused of not supplying enough information

So here it is

I designed a SatReporting tool that encompases the ISS and NO-84

It draws information from the APRS-IS stream and presents it in a web form.

I added a function where people could manually add a satellite observation

This was exploited and I had to deal with the authorities and coped 65,000
emails from a vindictive individual in California

I contacted his her ISP and they were dumb and clueless

The help exceed my monthly internet bill in the the process.

That stoped after I reported them and took away the manual reporting
feature.

I then let the system back on line and once again the same vindictive
indivual was hitting my web site with a denial of service attack every
second.

I have had to report them again.

My ISP are pissed off at me when I have done nothing wrong

Some jelous individual obviously does not like any one else doing something
smart

It is sad and I feel sorry for that individual

I have a had a rough life and I can can take the punches

I will persist in bringing new and smart solutions to problems where I see I
can help

Here is the individual that is doing it

vk4tec@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> nslookup 50.255.43.233

I have migrated from a raspberry pi to a quad quad core processore machine
with 64 GB of RAM running LINUX OpenSuse

I say go for it

I am smater than you think having been in volved in both telecommunications
and aviation security incidents.

I have been given military clearance and are friends with federal police

Scott, do you know of something similar to the PulseAudio Volume Control
utility that will run under Windows?

Yes sir, but it works just slightly differently.

There are actually a couple of "virtual audio cable" software packages. The
one I use can be downloaded from:

http://vbaudio.jcedeveloppement.com/Download_CABLE/VBCABLE_Driver_Pack43.zip

... and after install, in any piece of software you use you'll have some
additional audio device options beyond just your "real" speaker output & mic
input.

So, a common use would work like this: in an app that OUTPUTS audio (like
your SDR software), you set the output audio device to be the "IN" virtual
audio cable.

On some other piece of software that is looking to take in audio (SSTV,
FoxTelem, etc.), you set the audio INPUT device to be the "OUT" port from
the virtual audio cable.

It's harder to say than it is to do. If it helps, sketch it out on paper.
The "virtual audio cable" is just the link between one program and another.

Using a mechanism like that works much better than using any of your actual
sound devices since it's a closed pipe from one end to the other.

Scott, do you know of something similar to the PulseAudio Volume Control
utility that will run under Windows?

VB-Cable aka VAC. I made a web page about this for help decoding ISS SSTV.
Soundflower is one Mac equivalent as well.
