Looking to move my two mast mounted preamps into an enclosure. Who knows of
a good mast mounted waterproof enclosure that will handle 2 Advanced Recv'r
160 Watt Mast Mounted Amateur Preamp's inside? The preamps are 5" wide and
2-1/2 deep. I could stack them on top of each other or side by side. Let me
know if the suggested enclosure will have the hardware to mount to the mast.
Provide me with links to the items.

Thanks.

Don't know if this is opensource ( a quick search only found the old WiSP32
download setup.exe), but this as well as other old programs (I'm thinking
Nova, but perhaps others?) would be best
served by getting it out there in the public domain.
The other option is to reverse engineer if someone has a working copy.

I'm using a 8x8x4 outdoor electrical box with the two preamps stacked on top

The cheapest outdoor boxes I find that are quick opening are the ones sold
as "60 amp AC Disconnects". These are the boxes that go on the wall out
at your AC or heatpump.

Get the one without fuses and you get the box and 60 amp pullout switch
for only $7 or so.
I use lots of them (on my solar and other high power stuff) where I use
them for the required Solar Disconnect, for series parallel switching of
the arrays from 500v to 250v so I can use the DC power directly during
grid outages, or for A/B switching to my backup generator, etc. They are
Dual pole switches and 60 amps! For $7 with box.

For the generator switching I pull the guts out of one and add it inside
another one so that it becomes a DPDT transfer switch by moving the
pullout from one slot to the other.

Removing one screw and all the disconnect swtich stuff falls out and
leaves a clean box.
Not bad for outdoor WX enclosure for $7.

But MAYBE NOT FOR A MAST where rain can be blowing up from any direction
besides DOWN. Then maybe some rain can blow in the cracks?

The Linux tools (PacSatTools and PB/PG) are distributed as source
code. That code could potentially serve as a guide for how to encode
files and interface with a KISS TNC.

The Linux version of PB and PG talks to a pseudo TNC using the native Linux
AX.25 sockets. It has been more than two decades since I have last used the
native AX.25 sockets and, as far as I can remember, it was not trivial. I
suggest modifying the PB and PB software to speak the AX.25 KISS over TCP
protocol and talk with DireWolf, a software TNC that implements the G3RUH
GFSK 9600 bps modem. DireWolf can be found here:

https://github.com/wb2osz/direwolf

I will try modifying PB and PG to use the KISS protocol as soon as I can
spare some time.

DireWolf could be used with a classic transceiver via soundcard and also to
a SDR receiver such as GQRX or GNURadio and a classic (or SDR) transmitter.
The software modem could also be implemented directly in GNUradio as well.

It will be a blast to operate a PACSAT BBS again.

Lowes, Home Depot, Menards all carry gray plastic electrical junction boxes
with o-ringed covers. Waterproof, indestructible. Put your holes anywhere.
Sizes from 2" cube up through at least 12x12x8. I've put remote mounted
transverters, relays, amplifiers in them.

Barring the unforeseen, I plan on riding down to Rock Hill SC Friday evening
with KM4VDM and fulfilling a request from a friend to operate from EM94. I
will also be in South Carolina for those that may need it for their
Satellite WAS. This will be two passes only, one on each sat.

SO-50 at 0209z (Sat UTC time) and then about twenty minutes after that pass,
FO-20 at 0245z (Sat UTC time) Most likely will be in the lower half of the
RX passband (145.970 uplink) unless there is QRM or other issues.

I should have access to twitter during the trip, so updates as we go and
then lotW upload after returning home a few hours later, paper QSL by request.

If you want the best quality, look for a standard NEMA-4 electrical
enclosure. They are metal with a sealed door and screw latches. They also
typically have a metal backplane (sometimes as an option) that can be
removed for easy mounting of components with no need to drill into the
actual enclosure. They are rated to provide protection from ingress of dust,
water, and sleet as well as accumulation of ice. Since it's metal you can
also ground it.

If you want to get really fancy you can go NEMA-4X which adds additional
corrosion protection. They're made of stainless steel and will outlast
pretty much anything you put inside it.

A google search will turn up many sources.
