You need to understand there are two types of email plain text and HTML

The messed up text happens when the sender and client don't mix

International  Space Station Astronauts are Calling CQ Students ?
ARISS-US program education  proposal deadline is November 15, 2017


September 18, 2017: The  Amateur Radio on the International Space
Station (ARISS) program is seeking  proposals from U.S. schools,
museums, science centers and community youth  organizations to host
radio contacts with an orbiting crew member aboard the  International
Space Station (ISS) between July 1 and December 31,  2018.

Each year, ARISS provides tens of thousands of students with  oppor-
tunities to learn about space technologies and space  communications
through the exploration of Amateur Radio. The program  provides
learning opportunities by connecting students to astronauts  aboard
the International Space Station (ISS) through a partnership  between
NASA, the American Radio Relay League, the Radio Amateur  Satellite
Corporation and other Amateur Radio organizations and  worldwide
space agencies. The program?s goal is to inspire students  worldwide,
to pursue interests and careers in science, technology,  engineering
and mathematics (STEM) through Amateur Radio.

Educators  overwhelmingly report that student participation in the
ARISS program  inspires an interest in STEM subjects and in STEM
careers. Ninety-two percent  of educators who have participated in
the program have indicated that ARISS  provided ideas for encourag-
ing student exploration, discussion, and  participation, and 78
percent said that ARISS was effective in stimulating  student
interest in STEM.

ARISS is looking for organizations that will  draw large numbers
of participants and integrate the contact into a  well-developed
education plan. Students can learn about satellite  communications,
wireless technology, science research conducted on the  space
station, what it is like to work in space, radio science, and  any
related STEM subject. Students learn to use Amateur Radio to  talk
directly to an astronaut and ask their STEM-related questions.
ARISS  will help educational organizations locate Amateur Radio
groups who can  assist with equipment for this once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity for  students.

The proposal deadline for 2018 contacts is November 15,  2017.

Hi Zach,

Thanks for your input. I made the recommended changes. The test I ran
does indeed show the ascii text in the message source instead of a bunch
of jammed together character strings that remind me of satellite telemetry.

On a side note - the news content editors don't have the keys to the
server room where the box running Mailman resides. I've heard we'd need
to be careful about tweaking global settings ... at the risk of wrongly
formatted? messages for all users. But I'm willing try a few tweaks
external to the server (aka my copy of Thunderbird) to see if we can
improve the readability problem.

I have noticed that the mailing list software seems to insert carriage
returns every 76-78 characters before resending the plain text format,
where I did not do that.

For those of us who primarily or frequently consume
email via mobile platforms, the
text ends up looking like this. The smaller screen will
automatically reflow text but
the mailman software introduces hard carriage returns
and makes the text look more
like a haiku or a weird poem. It is very difficult to read
properly. And to be clear, this
is not a problem with my email client on my mobile
device, but it is a problem
caused by the mailman software combined with the
small screen of a mobile device.

It is very annoying.

JoAnne, in your raw email, I see the following fields:

Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; Format="flowed"


Hopefully that will help in troubleshooting as well.

Working my way down a list of satellites and now it is time to try AO-73
Funcube

I have a Funcube Dongle Pro + which I can pipe to PSK decoder

I also have a Tigertronics Singalink and a ICOM706 MKII G with doppler
tracking

Will the 1200 baud BPSK go ok through the Tigertronics Signalink ?

UZ7HO decoder will be used initially

Then I will work out the data ware house.

International  Space Station Astronauts are Calling CQ Students ?
ARISS-US program education  proposal deadline is November 15, 2017


September 18, 2017: The  Amateur Radio on the International Space
Station (ARISS) program is seeking  proposals from U.S. schools,
museums, science centers and community youth  organizations to host
radio contacts with an orbiting crew member aboard the  International
Space Station (ISS) between July 1 and December 31,  2018.

Each year, ARISS provides tens of thousands of students with  oppor-
tunities to learn about space technologies and space  communications
through the exploration of Amateur Radio. The program  provides
learning opportunities by connecting students to astronauts  aboard
the International Space Station (ISS) through a partnership  between
NASA, the American Radio Relay League, the Radio Amateur  Satellite
Corporation and other Amateur Radio organizations and  worldwide
space agencies. The program?s goal is to inspire students  worldwide,
to pursue interests and careers in science, technology,  engineering
and mathematics (STEM) through Amateur Radio.

Educators  overwhelmingly report that student participation in the
ARISS program  inspires an interest in STEM subjects and in STEM
careers. Ninety-two percent  of educators who have participated in
the program have indicated that ARISS  provided ideas for encourag-
ing student exploration, discussion, and  participation, and 78
percent said that ARISS was effective in stimulating  student
interest in STEM.

ARISS is looking for organizations that will  draw large numbers
of participants and integrate the contact into a  well-developed
education plan. Students can learn about satellite  communications,
wireless technology, science research conducted on the  space
station, what it is like to work in space, radio science, and  any
related STEM subject. Students learn to use Amateur Radio to  talk
directly to an astronaut and ask their STEM-related questions.
ARISS  will help educational organizations locate Amateur Radio
groups who can  assist with equipment for this once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity for  students.

The proposal deadline for 2018 contacts is November 15,  2017.
