Thanks to Mark N8MH and Jerry N0JY for the surprise first QSOs on AO-91 this
morning! I was up working on some school assignments, noticed the pass
coming up and decided to step outside with my Kenwood D72 and Diamond 1/4
wave whip to listen in on the commissioning and engineering tests... and
heard Mark declare AO-91 to be open for use!

I was able to get in fine with just the HT/whip at 5w, with around 35?
elevation remaining on the pass. I worked N8MH first, and then a few moments
later N0JY called me. I was able answer Jerry fine at around 12? elevation
to my south. Amazing performance compared to AO-85! Can?t wait to try it
with a decent antenna..

Thanks to both of you for the QSOs, and all the hard work you and the rest
of the Amsat team put into AO-91! Looks (and sounds) like we?ve got a winner
:-)

At 06:50 UTC November 23, 2017 @xxxxx Engineering officially
commissioned AO-91 (RadFxSat/Fox-1B).
N0JY turned over operation to N8MH and AMSAT Operations in a QSO on the
AO-91 repeater during the pass over the Eastern U.S.
N8MH responded and declared AO-91 open for amateur use!

Well done to all those involved :)

Sounded great here in VK6. Elevation was only 5?
Made a test call at 0738zm during its first VK operational pass.

Hi Paul,

Just found a duplicate of AO-85 in one of my Groups. Not sure how that even
happened, but fixed that. Will keep an eye out to see if the error comes
back.

Thanks,

Bob

Using my USB, FT 847, HS_soundmodem, and UISS, I have had success making
contact with WD9EWK, and KK6OTJ on one FalconSat pass. (PFS3-1)

no modification to the USB (except to wire it for the pin 4 (9k6 on the
radio dataport)). With this setup I can also connect with a local 9k6
packet node.

?caveat: for transmitting, connection success to the node is not
consistent, and for Falconsat very few hams are on for successive
testing. (probably need to learn WISP for next step.)

For receive with this setup it decodes with no problem from what I can
tell on all passes.

73 Christy KB6LTY? - Happy Thanksgiving All!

>>/What is a good computer interface that will handle 9k6 audio bandwidth?
Mike K4MIA /
>Mike:

I can confirm that the Signalink will not pass 9600 baud signals out of
the box. The tech at Tigertronics told me that some have modified the
unit to work 9600 baud packet, but didn't have any further details. I
suspect the mod has to do with bypassing the audio transformers.

Another approach would be to use your PC's sound card along with UZ7HO's
full-duplex Soundmodem. I've had great success working Falconsat using
this setup with a cheap StarTech USB sound card. Scott's, K4DKR,
plug-n-play PTT works well with this setup.

If your intention is to work Falconsat, you'll need a virtual serial
port to link Wisp with the UZ7HO's Soundmodem. Let me know if you need
further details.

Is anyone using this particular combination with the Fox 1 Telemetry
Analysis Tool? Today on one of my good passes with AO-91 I believe it was
transmitting high speed telemetry and it seemed no matter what combination I
used, I could not get the tool to decode the high speed telemetry. I have
no problem with the low speed Data Under Voice with this combination. I
have always assumed that the high speed telemetry is on the same frequency
as voice and low speed DUV. I would appreciate any thoughts anyone has as
usual.
Best Regards,

Yuri, UT1FG/MM, is back to sea on the Vessel Seahorse.
It is currently sailing from Algiers to Morocco where
it will load cargo. The plan is to sail to a USA port
in the Gulf to be determined.

There are quite a few ships named Seahorse. The
MMSI number is 538007572.

Yuri is using the Elk antenna but only has RG58 coax
feeding it. Even so he reports working K3SZH on AO-7
today. If he doesn't find coax in Morocco, perhaps we
can get some coax to him when he arrives in a USA port.
So he is likely to do better on a Mode B satellite rather
than one with a UHF downlink. He has keps for AO-91,
AO-85 and CAS-4B.

Please wait for a while before sending your logsheets.
He will likely be able to mail qsl's when he docks in the
USA.

73,
John K8YSE
