Hi all

I bought a new Android tablet on Saturday - Version 7.0, Nougat.

AMSATDroid seems to work fine on it, other than displaying the date as
"000001 29, 2018"

On the tablet, I did a Google Play Store search for Heavens-Above (which
runs great on my smartphone, which is running some flavor of Android 4.x)
and Heavens-Above didn't show up in the store...which I thought "okay,
that's strange".

So tonight I went to the Heavens-Above website, thinking I would download
the Android app from there. Google Play Store pops up with Heavens-Above
app but I'm getting the message "Your device is not compatible with this
version".

So, what I'm looking for - assuming that the Heavens-Above app won't be
updated - is a similar app which will run under 7.0. How about Satellite
Tracker from Tythatguy. or Satellite Tracker by Vito Technology (reading
the reviews, the latter doesn't seem to be as useful as Heavens-Above or
Tythatguy's version). Any others you might recommend?

Comments? Suggestions? Any way to make 7.0 backwardly compatible? <grin>

Wondering why I never really hear anyone on East Coast USA passes of EO-88.

The transponder is on but all I hear is myself ?

Hello Philip,

Try http://amsat.org.ar/pass it's free, works on tablets/smartphones, etc.

After first start, runs even without internet.

Good Luck and successful hunt of birds.

ISS Detector is my go to app for Android now. You have to purchase an
extra pack or the Pro version to get amateur radio sats. Only thing I
miss from Heavens-Above is it doesn't list time/azimuth of max
elevation.

Thanks for the heads-up, Frank!

I'm ashamed to admit, considering that it's clearly on the Linear Satellite
Frequency Summary page (
https://www.amsat.org/linear-satellite-frequency-summary/), but I wasn't
even aware of it.

However, it's certainly checked in Orbitron now, so I'll look forward to
giving it a try.

Thanks!

I routinely copy DTUSat-2 on 2401.835. It only transmits a beacon every 30
seconds in ellipse only as the batteries never functioned. Since the Doppler
is 100 kHz during the pass, it's a challenge to track it.

Please remember that the transponder on EO88 is only active when the
spacecraft is in eclipse, but don't forget to listen for UKube-1 where
the transponder is on continuously (except for occasional breaks of a
few seconds).

Have fun!

I second the vote for ISS Detector. If you buy the Amatuer Radio option for
a few bucks, it is an excellent satellite AP. It even has a widget that
constantly shows upcoming passes on the screen.

I should know this, but don?t.
My students tried to tune in XW2A but it was not on Heavens-above but it was
shown as having been heard by someone else today on the AMSAT Status page.

But its downlink is outside of the AMSAT subband, so do they not turn it on
except over China, or is the downlink on 145.675 operational? We did not
hear anything.

Holy cow, I overlooked ISS Detector thinking it was only for ISS. For $0.99
you
remove the ads, add the Amateur satellites and can save the list of the
ones you want!

If you want it for "free" get the Google opinion rewards app and answer a
few surveys when they pop up and receive a bit of store credit.

Thank you John and Doug for the amazing recommendation.

It's generally been on full-time. The CW beacon on 145.660 MHz or the 9k6
GMSK telemetry on 145.640 MHz should always be heard if there's no activity
on the transponder.
