No thanks, I?d rather have more hardware. Why would I want AMSAT to allocate
resources to something I can do manually?

This is exactly what open source is, maybe you can take the lead and
organize an AMSAT fork of GPredict that will do exactly what you want.

I agree with Les; SatPC32 is a good piece of software but it does have a few
holes that need it to be plugged to make it the flagship software that AMSAT
members should have. And as far as Paul's comments about basically "figure
it out yourself" once again I feel he fancies himself on
occasion as the OO of the FM birds. Don't get me wrong I have seen many
posts he has made that are quite enlightening and helpful but on occasion he
tends to go to the dark side. I mean this is one ham asking the satellite
community for help with a problem they were having and to be put down by one
of the AMSAT members was unnecessary. If the members think it is a goofy
request then just don't respond to it. Geeezzzz... If you cant say something
positive just keep it to yourself. Bedside manner Paul. You have many good
things to help with the community...stick to that.

I'm wondering what other ops are seeing for Doppler settings on their
L-Band uplink. Here in VT - last pass - It was pretty consistently +10
kHz on my FT-736R.

I plan to change SATPC32 to use 1267.360 and give that a try. I was
using manual VFO mode on the rig, so I had full range tuning - not steps
- and could adjust for best quieting.

L band system here:
FT-736R - 1.2 GHz module
DL2AM 60 watt amp (power is fully adjustable)
D/S 55 el 1269 loop yagi
G5400 rotors

Mike,

I have noticed being in best 5-10 kHz high too. I only have an HT with
questionable frequency accuracy, though.

I had to twist my Comet yagi with 2 meter Arrow elements to get in on that
pass and due to the urban noise floor, I lost the downlink, so I wasn?t
sure how well/if I was getting in.

Hi Paul,

WB8RJY, VE4AMU and I noticed a weak signal on that pass - just in the
noise. Was that you?

Good to know you are seeing the nominal frequency being a bit high as
well. More testing is needed. Both of my passes were 5-6 degrees at
best. I'd like a good 30 degree pass to check tuning and ERP for best
quieting on the uplink.

One thing to try is to have a page with a template of the files you'd need
to update in SatPC32. At least you'll have an idea of which files you need?

Populating the data content depends on the satellite so once that data is
known it can be edited into your local copy of the template ... or the
missing information could be the basis of specific queries.

The AMSAT News Service, the AMSAT web, and AMSAT Journal use templates to
keep track of the things to do ... but, of course, all of the work comes
from making the content to fill out the template. Keep those cards and
letters to the editors coming folks!

But, I digress, if we'd like to try a SatPC32 template could an experienced
user send a trial copy to me at the e-mail at the signature line. Also try
to add a bit of descriptive text to the data elements that are needed to
complete the template. (BTW, I'm not a SatPC32 user.)

I'll post a PDF to our 'Station and Operating Hints' page:
https://www.amsat.org/station-and-operating-hints/

I was able to hear the past 2 passes of AO-92 this morning.

Per the the past couple of posts, it looks like AO-92 is using the 1.2
uplink freq.

How can I find out when it will be using the 435 uplink freq ?

Thank you

I agree that there is plenty of room to improve SatPC 32.? Only being
able to track 12 satellites per group is a limitation.? Modifying the
files is not difficult in my opinion, but automated downloads like the
keps would be an improvement.? I remember the days of manual keps
input.? I can't remember the last time SatPC 32 had an update.

I use SatPC 32 to automate my station radio and rotors.? Works very well.

For pass planning and announcement I use HRD Satellite Tracking and
MacDoppler.? These programs have a much better graphical interface.? To
bad the HRD Satellite Tracker does not work well for station
automation.? MacDoppler works well for station integration but my shack
computer is a Windows box.

Does AMSAT own the code to SatPC32 or would a group of programmers need
to start from scratch?

I can create a page on the AMSAT website to host updated aux files for all
the satellites if someone wants to share them. Since all my operation is
portable and using manual control, I don?t have all the various files on
hand.

Thank you, Stefan! You answered the question that I was really trying to
ask...and didn't express very well.

What I meant to ask initially is why unwanted FM signals on the uplink of
a linear bird didn't pose (much of) a problem while unwanted FM signals on
an FM sat did; I understood the latter, but not the former...and now I know!

Thanks to everyone who responded
