All,

Detailed doppler measurements show that UBAKUSAT
is object 43467 (1998-067NQ) and 1KUNS-PF is object
43466 (1998-067NP).

After their launch on 2018-05-20 at 21:28 UTC, LJ 1 and LJ 2 were
maneuvered onto a track to the Moon. Several amateurs received
telemetry from the satellites. But now LJ 1 appears to encounter
problems.

Quoting Wei BG2BHC:
"Can you help to find amateurs in the US to help to monitor DSLWP-A
on 435.425 and 436.425 now?
We lost the contact of satellite A on S band after an orbit adjustment.
We just tried to switch on UHF, but we don't know if it works or not.
The sat is just above South America.
If it works, 435.425 should be 500bps GMSK and JT4 alternately.
436.425 should be 250 bps GMSK.? Bothtransmit once in 5 minutes.

Thank you very much!

Nico,

I have been trying to capture the signals from the both Longjiang sats for
the past 2 days.

On Monday it seems that I receive a carrier on the right frequency but was
not able to confirm that it was from Longjiang 1.

I used the initial Keppler?s and now using Celestrac in SatPC32 which seems
to be OK when comparing with N2YO ele/az. I have been monitoring on the
announced FX and having also JT4G ?on? for about this evening without any
results.

For sure I am doing something wrong but cannot figure it out due to the lack
of information.

Also, trying to get a decoder software for the GMSK telemetry is quite
difficult for a non-IT geek, I don?t have clue how to have the published
GITHUB decoder to work on my Windows computers?

Here we are this side.

Quite frustrating that the communication is not that good, as if the project
team want the maximum of feedback and TLM they should provide a minimum of
info. Just a personal opinion.

Anyway will try hard to receive these birds as a real opportunity for HAM to
learn more on outer space com, if anyone can help and share, particularly
the guys who already decoded the birds, it would be more welcomed.

Jean,

I suggest usign the live Ubuntu ISO image with gnuradio and the necessary
OOT modules for monitoring the GMSK signals. While installing gnuradio and
the OOT modules manually can be done, it takes some effort. Running the
live image is much easier. You do need a fast computer with at least four
CPU cores to be able to run all the flowgraphs.

I had some difficulties with the doppler correction in my setup during the
first pass. The predictions seemed off and I had to manually adjust the
frequency offset to get the signals into the demodulators' passbands. Once
that was done, I could decode the GMSK telemetry from both satellites up to
64000 km. Above 64000 km, my small antenna was no longer enough. I will get
a better antenna ready and will try monitoring again over the weekend.

Greetings!

The software on github (https://github.com/bg2bhc/gr-dslwp) is for use in
GNU Radio on linux, so a Windows computer would not be helpful for that.

In the hours after launch, several Amateurs
(http://lilacsat.hit.edu.cn/dashboard/pages_en/contribute.html)
successfully decoded the 70cm telemetry using those GNU Radio flowgraphs (I
got some partial decodes but low SNR here prevented me from getting complete
packets - but I was still very pleased!).

Last night (U.S. time), I'm not aware of anyone receiving any of the 70cm
telemetry. We were asked to watch for JT4 as well, but I'm not aware that
any was received.

As mentioned earlier in this thread, the team has lost S-Band contact with
one of the cubesats. I'm not setup to receive those frequencies but others
are watching for the signals.

For an average station like myself, the plan will be to continue to watch
for 70cm telemetry with the GNU Radio software & JT4 with a second SDR.

Hope that helps!

Scott,

Thanks and my greetings to you also.

Very clear and thank you for the insights.

Unfortunately I don?t have the required skills about linux and IT, in spite
having quite a good RF knowledge (some 40 years professionally in SATs,
Mobile, PMR, microwave and mobile up to 5G now), i just know how to install
the APP?s o a PC and to do some basics settings?

Also, my station is quite average as yours, as the Longjiang experiment is
quite interesting will continue to watch out and try receive some signals
from these birds. But again wish to stress that the project managers would
have much more audience and feedback if sharing more info (basic marketing),
just a honest comment for improvement in such future projects. This seems
always to be the case in such HAM sat ventures, that the direct stakeholders
are so taken with urgent matters (fully understood) that they fail to
communicate well to get the best feedback after launch from the HAM
community which actually would help them a lot in assessing there bird
performance.

Hope my comments will help to improve our beloved projects.

Hi all,

Pat Stoddard asked me for the grid and so I will try what for me is an 8?
Fox 92 pass at 309Z, my local 2309 Eastern Tuesday evening. Would like to
see western and central US stations Who need this grid to call.

Very good point, Larry. Thanks for mentioning that.

Before I had a computer dedicated to linux-only, on numerous past projects
that required GNU Radio I used a bootable CD and it works great. Your base
operating system is untouched.

There are performance advantages to having linux installed on a dedicated
computer, but to learn what linux & GNU Radio is about, the bootable CD is
a great option.

Scott and the other Windows users,

Windows is completely ignored. The live Linux CD is live! You insert it
in your DVD/CD drive and reboot your PC. Linux will load into RAM and run
exclusively from RAM. It has a desktop not much different from a Windows
PC or an Apple Mac. Give it a try. My mother started using Linux when she
was 84, and she certainly didn't have an IT background!
