The AMSAT office has had no phone service today. COMCAST says they expect
it to be up by 3:00PM.

Folks:

It has been reported that some few hams have received DSLWP signals and
some fewer have decoded GMSK packets following Lunar Orbit insertion. .

It might be useful for the rest of us to hear what the successful
configurations are (receiver, antenna, preamp, etc).

I believe having a sense of what the minimum successful system gain and
Noise Figure required would help the rest of us get something working.

As I understand it, both the vhf and uhf antennas use N connectors, is that
correct?My ic-910h uses a pl 259 type connector? for the vhf side.Im
ordering coax...should I order N connectors, then simply use an adapter
(pl259 type to N) on the radio end of the vhf coax?BibWa7dxz

I strongly suggest buying all high-quality VHF and UHF cables with
N-type-M connectors pre-installed.

It is much easier to buy a PL-259-M to N-Type-F and attached it to the radio.

Good Luck,

I would get cables made up with the appropriate connectors and avoid
adapters.

In my little world where every little bit of loss is considered, and
adapters get lost or fail, I'd go with the connectors you need installed as
a prime on the cables. They are easy to install and should you experience a
failure, you'd know how to repair/replace.

DK3WN, Mike informs me that he has commanded PSAT digipeater back on.

It has been in safe mode for almost a month and so, maybe it is time to
bring it back on line and hope that it stays up through Field Day.

Our Naval Academy ground station has been moved to a basement building for
18 months while renovations are in progress, so we are off line and
dependent on our excellent volunteer station DK3WN for the honors...

FalconSat-3 takes a little more to set up on a D72, but it is currently
our only orbiting digipeater on 24/7. NO-84 is occasionally on, and maybe
we can hope for its batteries to be charged enough so a command station
can turn the digipeater on for Field Day weekend.... <snip>

Bob,

As others have replied, avoiding adapters is the best
advice. This is especially true in outside weather
and wherever the connection is subject to movement
or vibration. Personally, I've used a few in the shack
on permanently mounted equipment for decades without
a problem as an expedient or cheapness/laziness.

Agree with Dave on this one, if you can't make the cables buy them with the
correct connectors.

You might only be talking 0.0*dB in losses but it also removes a point of
failure.

I?ve just started playing with talking on satellites. I?m able to hear all
the satellites (AO-85, AO-91, AO-92 and SO-50) that I have programmed on my
Kenwood TH-D74, which I use with my Elk dual band periodic log antenna.
However no one can hear me or responds to me. I?ve only been successful with
my uplink (being heard) on AO-91 on several passes. I triple checked my
frequencies on my radio and the 67 Hz tone and they are set as follows:
Sat. Xmit Tone
SO-50 145.850 67.0 Hz
AO-85 435.170 67.0 Hz
AO-91 435.250 67.0 HZ
AO-92 435.350 67.0 Hz
These are the frequencies used when the bird is at its peak. I adjust for
doppler on 440 by starting out 10 khz less, e.g AO-85 435.160, 435.165,
435.170, 435.175, 435.180.

Any ideas if something has changed from what is published or am I missing
something? Like I said, i?ve been able to communicate on AO-91.

You've discovered one of the reasons full duplex is best on the FM
sats...you have no idea if you are getting through, because you can't hear
while transmitting.

Got another radio so you can work full duplex?

BTW, the situation is a bit more complicated than just resetting while in
auto-safe mode. I tried that with the AO-85 software and could not
reproduce that behavior. I also think that I've seen it NOT happen on
AO-85. There has to be some timing window that I have not found.
