Joe Spier K6WAO AMSAT President talks about cubesats on the beach at the
SEA-PAC hamfest.

He also tried to make a contact through a satellite but didn't have
success. No video of that.

sunlight, low power beacon plus transponder on in darkness).

I will be switching mode as normal to full time transponder mode on sometime

Long-time SatPC32 user but new to SatPC32ISS. Rig control works fine, but
I can't get rotor control working in SatPC32ISS. Guessing that SatPC32ISS
is not launching the rotor control server SatPC32 uses. Suggestions? Does
SatPC32ISS default to the same config file as SatPC32, or does it default
to Confguration 1? (I'm using Config II with SatPC32). Have not found
anything (yet) in the SatPC32 docs.

Thanks, 73 Steve KS1G

I'd like to run L for part of the weekend, but it will have to be the first
half. I can't commit to an exact time for the change, but will probably try
Friday evening. If you have L capability, this is the way to an easy 100
points.

Ron,
Thanks for keeping this updated every month!
BTW, many of the FT8 folks are involved in the ARRL
Grid Chase and want to keep their monthly and cumulative
scores up to date as quickly as possible. That would be
why you see the LoTW QSLs coming in so fast.

This list was developed by comparing the ARRL .pdf

listings for May 1, 2018 and June May 1, 2018. It's a visual

comparison so omissions are possible. Apologies if your

call was not mentioned. Thanks to all those who are

roving to grids that are rarely on the birds. They are

doing most of the work!

EDITORIAL: Excuse the bandwidth.

I took a little detour from chasing grids to try FT8 on 6 meters.

What amazed me was the quickness of QSLs on LoTW, often finding

the QSL awaiting when I uploaded my QSO. Why are the FT8-ers so

fast compared with my experience on satellites. My guess is that

FT8 QSOs are done with computer software with logging capability.

But that can't be the entire reason. Most of our wonderful rovers

are extremely fast getting their audio recording logs uploaded to

LoTW. So motivation has to be part of the solution.

Satellites can be worked without computer assistance, but Doppler

control, pass prediction and logging make the activity more

enjoyable for me. Some of the rovers should publish their

procedure for logging to LoTW. Most logging programs will upload

to LoTW. Even the TQSL program for LoTW handles hand-input

parameters. And LoTW is the easiest way to apply for ARRL Awards.

Perhaps my disappointment after working a needed grid and not

getting an LoTW QSL can be relieved.

Ron W5RKN

Dear All,

Tested this morning during DSLWP (Longjiang 2) Tx between 06:00 and 08:00
UTC, no luck no signal received in spite everything OK and tested several
times yesterday. The set-up is RTL SDR (tried also with TS-2000), feeder:
30m of 1/2" heliax + 3m of RG213, DBA-270 preamp and Hy-gain UB-7030SAT
antenna, basically the same station I used for LEO's.

More or less expected, but was worth giving it a try, hopefully it will
work with JT4.

I will try again GMSK, particularly if there is a night transmission in
future (less noise).

First quick conclusion is that I need much more antenna gain for the GMSK
mode (some already mentioned that), need to figure out what mechanically
possible on my apartment roof to get maximum possible gain.

To those successful today congratulations.

Hi Steve, I think it worked best for me to use the normal SatPC32 to get
rotors and radio all working first. Then switch to the ISS exe. Only
change then is frequency.

Alfred and others.

TU!

It appears to now be tracking along.

Im not sure why, but it does seem to loose connections at times.

Im using the MicroHam MK2R+ as my interface as I do with all my software.
For some reason this was hard to get communicating. The issue was in the HEX
address.

For my VHF contesting this weekend I was using Writelog and it does not have
IC-9100 as option of all things. So I had to emulate another ICOM for it to
talk. While running SATPC on another screen It was looking for the 9100
address but not getting it. Once I was told how to do the drop down and set
address in SATPC it made sense...simple but overlooked..as it usually is.

Will be good to get back on the birds after about 5 years. New KNWD HT and
ELK and soon Ill have larger ants ready for home qth on az/el rotor now that
EME sation is down for summer.

Again, thanks to all.

Kirk
I use SAT32PC Ver. 12.8c on a laptop running Windows 10 and an IC-9100.
I assume your IC-9100 is connected to the PC via a USB cable.
Some things I would check:
Is the device driver for the IC-9100 Installed? Does the IC-9100 talk to
other software such as HRD?
In SAT32PC go to Setup>Radio Setup
Is the Icom button in the Radio 1 panel checked?
Click on Model in the drop-down box. The windows below should say
IC-9100
Click on Baudrate in the drop-down box. The windows below should say
9600
Click on Addresses in the drop-down box. The windows below should
say $7C $7C.
(This are the default addresses in the IC-9100. They can be changed
in the IC-9100 but they must match the addresses set in SAT32PC.)

In the Com Port Window my setup shows Com Port 6 but this will vary
depending on other USB devices. It can also change when change USB devices.
You might try different Com Port numbers.

The Cat Delay box should show 70.

The Satellite Mode box should be checked.
The RTS, DTR and KCT boxes should be unchecked.

At the bottom right corner of the SAT32PC main window does it show Doppl.
Corr: Up/Dwn ?

Then of course the in the upper left of the SAT32PC window there should be
C+ showing when you click on it.
If there is some other setting that you would like to compare e-mail me
directly.

Hope this helps.

Problem solved, a comedy of errors. When WIN10 1803 stated to install itself
bit by bit I lost connectivity with my 9100. Not knowing what was going in
on (the formal install of 1803 didn't start yet) First thing I tried was a
different USB cable. What had caused the original problem (WIN10 1803
compatibly issue with the USB drivers used by Icom) turned into two issues,
I added a bad USB cable to the mix. Also the USB driver version 1.30 wasn't
posted to the Icom USA website till this morning, I found a copy at the Icom
UK website. So this morning after some Coffee I back tracked everything I
did, even un installed 1803. After installing the 1.30 drivers, and with the
first USB cable all is working again. Bad cable, and ver 1.20 both are trash
:-)

Ok. I will add to this. I had no problem connecting the following USB
devices with no driver upgrades needed to my new laptop. FT-817 with a USB
62c, or a 11 year old K3 with new USB add on connectivity. Plug and play. I
even went back to WIN10 ver 1709 and STILL can't get the 9100 USB to work.

We have an update from our previous posting regarding the compatibility
between the latest version of Windows 10 and Icom Drivers used on the
IC-R8600, IC-7300 and IC-7610. Icom Inc. has confirmed there is an issue and
are in the process of developing an update which they will add to their
global website download page.

In the meantime, we have been given four solutions to fix the issue
temporarily:

Download USB driver 10.1.2 (updated on 14. May 2018) from Silicon
Labs web site.
Download USB driver 6.7.5 (updated on 13. Oct. 2017) from Silicon
Labs web site. This driver is commonly used in OS Windows 7, 8., and Windows
10.
Use the latest version of our USB Driver from the Icom Inc.global
web site (Version is 1.20 for IC-7100/ IC-7200/ IC-7300/ IC-7410/ IC-7600/
IC-7610/ IC-7850/ IC-7851/ IC-9100). As marked driver's information is
6.7.0.
Use PC Windows 10 version 1709.

As soon as we have anymore information, we will post on our website.

Well in my case none of this works. I'm fortunate that I have a backup
laptop that will work for FD. It makes you wonder though, why does Icom
always have all these stupid connectivity issues. I was thinking of selling
my Flex VU5K, and IC-9100 and getting an IC-9700 but now I'm rethinking
that...

I'm having an issue with the USB drivers for my IC-9100 WIN10 1803 setup
that I'm setting up for FD. Odd thing is I have it working on other WIN10
PC's running 1803. Is anyone having the same issue? I'm trying to setup an
HP Spectre PRO x360 G1 i7 laptop. I've tried all the fixes online and none
seem to work.
