Hi all
I recently won a Kenpro KR500 rotor on Ebay for the princely sum of a
quid. The alleged history was it was purchased, had antennas attached
but was never wired or used and this I can believe because the connector
block looks untouched. It was however left on its side in the garden so
looks pristine but has suffered water ingress. I started to strip it
down today and of course the eight M6 Phillips heads put up quite a
fight but I attacked it with fire and it is now apart.
Having opened it up I'm now slightly confused as to what model rotor I
actually have. It has the eight screw terminal block, the casing is
stamped Kenpro but internally it has the limit switches and a capacitor.
The controller I intend using is an old Kenpro KR400 model and I assume
has the 70uF cap across the switches. Do I leave this in place to use it
with my rotor or should I remove it, or remove the cap in the rotor?

Last fall I did the electric tape+coax seal method and the connections were
perfectly fine when I opened them this spring. Not the longest 'soak' time,
but having the tape UNDER the coax seal sure made it come off easy!

I like to orient my connectors facing down, preferably under an overhang.
I then wrap the connector and coax in 1/2 overlap fashion with 3M Rubber
Splicing tape (#2155). You must stretch it to about 2/3rds of its
original width to "activate" it before wrapping. I start the wrap on the
coax, about 2" from the start of the connector, and wrap upward until it
completely covers the connector and seals the interface between the
female and male parts of the junction.
When I disassembled (Exact-o knife) the outdoor coax connectors after 8
years of wind, rain, and sun exposure, the connectors looked brand new.
No water intrusion anywhere that I could tell. I also use silver-plated
connectors (PTFE insulator material) wherever possible.

The CAT connector on the TS-2000 is standard RS-232.
The RS-232 (CAT) pinout can be easily found on the Internet with a

I use the way I was trained when I worked for Motorola at a MSS.
Silicon grease on the inside, 3M 33+ tape in 2 layers on the outside. You
can overwrap that with 3M 35 in the color of your choice for color coding.
Or you can use adhesive shrink tubing with the 33+ over it.

I'm sorry, I should clarify my post. That for a DB9, the commonly used 9 pin
connector.
The DB25, the old 25 pin connector still in use, uses Pin 7 for ground. The
TX & RX remaining the same

I have generally used Coax-Seal (name brand). It looks like tar and comes in
tape form. Molds like clay. Does not harden with cold or rain, does not get
soft with heat or sun, seals completely and lasts a long time.
I had it on my HF and satellite cables and antennas. After 15 years the
connectors looked like new when I took it all down. Testing cables later
(9913 type cable) showed cables had like new specs, showing there was no
water ingress. I am sure there?s more than one way to be successful, but I
know that this works.

I use liquid electrical tape, or Plasti-Dip from a can (not the spray
version). Cheap and after pulling it off you can clean any residue with
naphtha. Only disadvantage is that it needs to dry, which takes a bit of
time.
