Agreed, that's the stated intent of the rule from both AMSAT and the
ARRL. And yeah, generally I think it's better to hop off the FM sats,
not tying it up and preventing other people from getting their QSO.
But, as I have done several times, I normally just monitor the FM
passes. If I hear a lot of callsign dropping, CQing, and carriers for
a decent amount of time during the pass, I'll start calling some of
them - especially the weak ones who seem to be likely using an HT to
get their bonus points. If I hear others start actually making
contacts instead of blind calling, then I back off and go back to
monitoring. Is that preventing others from using the sat, and keeping
them from making qsos? I don't think so. Does that comply with the
spirit of the rule, which is to allow more people to make qsos on FM?
I think it does. I know of at least two people from FD 2017 who would
not have gotten their sat bonus if I hadn't done just that.

I would say, just use your judgement. If you're in a position with a
decent enough station and experience to actually operate like I've
described (and heard others do this weekend), then you probably aren't
one of the ops that the rule is intended to address.

Rules aren't going to keep people from doing dumb things. I think the
best way to address the alleged "problem" of FM sats on field day is
not to add more rules, but to spread some operating skill and
knowledge like Sean (Kx9x) did in his QST article for June. There's no
substitute for practice and experience. And once you've got both, you
can make the call yourself on what to do during any given pass, field
day or not.

available to more operators and seems to fly in the face of the rule. I
understand why people do it, and under some circumstances it may be a good
idea, but to me it is against the rule.

For a computer application (HamRadio Deluxe) to have ?remote control? of
another device ... it requires a communication path (using standards like
serial, RS-232 or RS-422, for distance) and an intelligence (u-Processor)
within device to interpret the communications and perform desired actions.
?
The Channel Master 9521(A) TV antenna rotator is a simple 50+ year 3-wire
motor control design, updated in past decade with ?Bling? (7-segment display
and IR control) controller using a u-processor, to appear ?modern? to
non-STEM consumers.

In addition, there is No True BRAKE in these inexpensive designs (reason CDE
created the Ham-series of azimuth rotators in 1957)
The designs are virtually the same as early 1950s TV rotators in post-WW2
America.

Why is that an important?
NO positive feedback between actual direction of outside rotator and inside

7.3.7.1 is a clarification of 7.3.7 which is about *scoring*.

To get images from NOAA weather satellites I have been using an RTL-SDR
with SDR# software and the WxtoImg decoding program. This has worked
successfully for a couple of years. I use the VB virtual audio cable to
connect SDR# to WxtoImg.

But about a month ago I had to reinstall SDR# as it wasn't working. I
think it may have been due to an update in Windows 10. So, SDR# is
working fine, but since the reinstall of SDR# I can no longer get
viewable images in WxtoImg. The pictures look they have been through the
shredder. I tried the slant correction and the resync as described in
the Help section, but it didn't fix anything.

It looks like a sync problem, but if the resync doesn't fix it, I'm not
sure what to try next.

I know these aren't amateur radio satellites, but I'm hoping there's at
least a few of you out there who are downloading weather satellite
pictures and can help me out.

All reasonable suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

Yes, this is on a laptop. I have successfully received images on this

As an aside for those of you who use the WX Sat app ?WxtoImg? for decoding
those birds it appears that the web site has gone dark so make sure you keep
a clean copy squirreled away in case something happens to your main app file.

Steve,

Could be a few things, with SDR# running is the audio choppy through the
speakers? you could lower the sample rate of the SDR also to see if that
helps

If the audio isn't choppy then it could be that there are not enough system
resources so your getting dropped packets, I have that issue on an old
desktop I use for wxsat decoding so I have turned off the main waterfall
and spectrum display in SDR# which sorted it for me.
