Hello Sat Heads

Just wanted to "share" a project I just finished. It was a really fun VHF
satellite antenna project. Great looking and NO "pointy" antenna elements
to poke You in the Eye.

Here's the kink to the photo:

I guess I feel bad for the few hams here and on the air who seem to find it
difficult to get on these amazing birds.?

Below is a link to an ultra-portable ultra light weight setup for working
these birds with a HT (4 watts). The Duplexer is zip tied on the short
center boom and the coax is just some RG-8X.? A set of short (24 inch)
home-brew Yagis are set at fixed elevation of about 30 degrees, and don't
need any phase angle rotation.?

The camera mount center rod was replaced with a 1/2 inch PVC pipe, which can
be raised to catch very low angle passes, and lowered in windy situations.?
The HT, a headset, an old android smartphone and a small writing pad
completes the setup.?

AO-91 and AO-92 can be worked down to 3 degrees full quieting, beyond the
hills, from my city lot house back yard.

Actually, it would take a bit of work to NOT work these sats, happened once
when the coax cables to the duplexer were reversed !
Good luck to the folks trying hard work them, wish I could help...

Thanks Scott. I turned back the clock on my phone to 0547UTC and ran my
tracker and XW2E was indeed right over my QTH at that time. Will try
again today to see if I can get any telemetry out of the CW beacon. On
DK3WN there is a report from a Japanese ham who decoded it on July 12th.

Cheers,

Hans

Laugh all you want. GPredict doesn't have an entry for XW2E, so I tuned
by hand..........to the wrong frequency. And the pass was an 85 degrees
elevation one, so perfect for getting a good strong signal. Murphy's
law. In the end I did see some telemetry on 145.890, same as yesterday,
but I couldn't detect any CW beacon.

   Hi Hans, all,

   Between parts of non modulated carrierI receive a small piece of CW
telemetry of XW-2E on 145.910 +-3 Doppler shift during the last pass
over western Europe (BJ1SF is the callsign of XW-2E) :
BJ1SF DFH XW2
   then
BJ1SF DFH XW2 XW2 AAA

   As defunct XW-2E was deleted from the Celestrak data base used by
GPredict, create a file named "40909.sat" in the
~/.config/Gpredict/satdata directory with :

[Satellite]
VERSION=1.1
NAME=XW-2E
NICKNAME=XW-2E
TLE1=1 40909U 15049L   18196.46936794  .00000813  00000-0  44380-4 0  9999
TLE2=2 40909  97.4556 201.1699 0012256 291.4063  68.5862 15.17084954155908

(tle from Space-Track)

   Have fun withe Wiwang-2E, 73 !

Looks great! Have you already tested it out? I wonder if the
measurements were very critical and how you curved the alu strips so
neatly. Have fun with it.

Bedankt Jan,

This requires a bit more study than I expected. I'm a complete noob
w.r.t. data transmittions, but I saw your site and some explanations on
how things work and I'll first study that. Cheers en tot de volgende keer.

I have a brand new condition 20ah bioenno and charger for sale. It has
been charged twice, was used for about 2 hours on the Tortugas this
past weekend, and 45 minutes on field day. It's great for use while
roving, or for portable HF etc. I bought it as a backup battery for
the K4R expedition, and now that we are back home it is just excess to
my needs with all the other batteries I own.

Including charger, I?m asking $190. You pay shipping.

I paid $220 for this battery and charger from HRO a month and a half ago.

Hans,

Will not laugh, as this is natural, we all try things and it is not straight
forward particularly with the birds, softwares etc....

I congratulate you to have notice XW-2E anomaly and bring same to the BB for
discussion. In spite some OM?s already pin point the issue it is important
that all of us keep a watch (and eyes open) on frequencies and share our
observations as it may lead to so more discoveries and open new frontiers.

hand..........to the wrong frequency. And the pass was an 85 degrees
elevation one, so perfect for getting a good strong signal. Murphy's law. In
the end I did see some telemetry on 145.890, same as yesterday, but I

couldn't detect any CW beacon.

tracker and XW2E was indeed right over my QTH at that time. Will try again
today to see if I can get any telemetry out of the CW beacon. On DK3WN there
is a report from a Japanese ham who decoded it on July 12th.
