Thank you to everyone who has replied, I appreciate it. I'll try to address
everything in one reply.

Paul, Alan and Trevor, I borrowed a duplexer rated for 40dB isolation. I
tried installing it on both the transmit side and on the receive side in
various configurations. I think that counts as a band pass filter. It made
no noticeable changes. I did read the QST report on the FT-991A mentioning
the output, but my impression was that it wasn't a huge deal. I would be
surprised if that was bad enough to cause this.

Zach my understanding is that the RSP1A is still shielded despite the
plastic box, but I actually have access to an RSP2pro in a metal case that
I can try out as well. I've never heard of a USB EMI filter before, I'll
look into that. I'm using a quality TrippLite USB cable with molded chokes
at each end.

Mike, I've tried both a linear power supply and a newer switching supply to
power the 991 with no change. In the video I was using the same supply on
both rigs. The SDR is powered through my laptop's USB port. I might have
already tried transmitting into a dummy load but I'll try it again. I do
know that switching the transmit antenna from my yagi to a rooftop vertical
eliminates the problem, which suggests to me that the interference is not
coming from inside the shack but from the transmit antenna's near field. I
made the switch at an outdoor patch panel, so nothing inside changed.

Terry, this is the first time I've heard of any other 991 owners with the
same problem. While it isn't what I want to hear, at least it might not
just be me.

My 991 is still in the shop (Radioworld) but I can try to pick it up this
weekend and keep experimenting. My original plan was to buy this FT-991A
and SDRplay to run a satellite base station, but I recently inherited an
FT-847 from a close friend, Brad VE3HII (SK). That opens a lot of (probably
superior) options for my station but I'd still really like to see the
FT-991A working as originally planned, and as it should. My friend's
satellite antennas are still on his tower so I may also try to take my 991
there and repeat my tests.

Dear All,

We have a bunch of active satellite operators in the region, mainly from
Mauritius (3B8), Reunion (FR) and South Africa (ZS) also from Madagascar 5R8
sometimes , in spite many countries reachable particularly on FO-29 we do
not hear much traffic except for regular QSO with Thailand (thanks to Kob,
E21EJC).

I guess the active guys reachable around the Indian Ocean (West Africa,
Middle-East, Asia and Oceania) are not looking this way as not expecting any
trafic and also due to time difference.

Just to let you know that we would like to QSO with you guys. Look for us on
the birds.

Hello Alex,

Based on the pictures shown in the review located at the following URL,
there does not appear to be any shielding over any RF component.

Zach,

The RF shielding isn't over components on the circuit board. The
inside of the RSP1A's plastic case has metallic paint which serves
as the shielding. From the same review you cited at:

https://www.rtl-sdr.com/a-review-of-the-sdrplay-rsp1a/

"Like the RSP2 the plastic case is now spray painted with metallic
paint on the inside. This works almost as well as a full metal
case to shield from unwanted signals entering directly through the
PCB, instead of through the antenna. We do still notice some
leakage making its way in through the coax shield, but it is
relatively minor with the shielding."

I have used my RSP1A to receive satellite downlinks, and have not
experienced issues as VA3ASE mentioned. I'm not using an FT-991 or
FT-991A, but use a variety of other radios (HTs, IC-2730A, FT-817,
TM-D710G) for the uplink side of my station with the RSP1A and a
tablet with HDSDR for the downlink.

This is very likely a IM3 issue. Shielding won't help. You need to
surpress the IM3 on the 2M output.

I have a torpedo sized cavity filter that knocks down the IM3 by 40 dB and
I see no desense.

Does anyone know how to create a QSL card label in Log4OM that is useful
for confirming a satellite QSO? I've read the instructions, but the only
labels I can print show date, time, mode, one band and no mention of a
satellite. Very frustrating. Are there customizing options I've missed?

My 12 year old flip-phone went SK on me. I wanted
another flip phone but they told me they would have
to special order one. HA, so now I have an android
smart phone. still trying to learn it.

Just wondering, what apps are the favorites out there?

Saw heavens above, Some PSK, SSTV, and RTTY apps. A neat
looking audio spectrum analyzer app.

Has anyone hooked up an SDR receiver to a smart phone? I
think that is something I would like to try as everything is
so portable, and I'd like to stay away from any app with ads.

Max-Gain Systems has a number of extensible/collapsable fiberglass masts,
some of which might meet your needs, although MGS does not actually
recommend mounting a rotatable antenna on one of their push-up systems.

https://mgs4u.com/product/mk-4-series-25ft-masts/ can extend up to 25
feet, but the top section is only one inch in diameter, so it might not
support a 6M5X yagi.

https://mgs4u.com/product/mk-8/ can extend up to 50 feet when guyed and
attached to a strong base, but to get up to 20 feet you only need to use 2
or 3 of the biggest nested sections so it might be more suitable for
holding the 6M5X at 20 feet up.

MGS also sells fiberglass tubing and rods, so you could put a solid rod
inside the third section to strengthen it. You could also "double up"
sections, i.e. glue a 2.25"OD tube inside of a 2.50"OD tube to make the
lowest section at double the wall strength, then a 1.75"OD tube inside of a
2.00"OD tube as the second section that would slide into the first section,
and then get a 1.50"OD solid rod as the third section. In fact, instead of
gluing together a 1.75"ID and a 2.00"ID tube, you could just buy a 2.00"OD
tube in 1/4" wall thickness. (Most of their fiberglass tubes only come in
1/8" wall thickness.) Since they sell the tubes and rods in 4 foot and 8
foot lengths, a 3-section mast extended to 20 feet would allow for 2 feet
of overlap per section which would be plenty.

For more details on their fiberglass offerings, go to
https://mgs4u.com/telescoping-fiberglass-tube-and-rod-price-list-2/

Good luck.

Can anyone tell me about how long it usually takes to receive the reg
code for SatPC32? I ordered it early this morning (CST) and aside from
the receipt have not received anything else. I sent a e-mail to them
and no response. I realize there is apparently one person who works in
the office but how hard is it to send a registration key?

ISS Detector Pro is the main app I use now. I like it because I can
select just the sats I want to see via filters, and at a glance I can
open it up and see what sats are coming in range in the next few
hours, or days.

We have a page on apps to use to track sats on the following wiki:
