I don't think it took more than a day or two to get mine after I paid
for it. I would guess you'll get it on Monday. Martha is the one who
will send it to you. You can just put your coordinates in SatPC32 when
you start it in the mean time. :-)

I fully support the recommendation for ISS Detector Pro + the amateur
package. Well worth the money.

If you download teamviewer on the shack computer and on your smartphone,
you can run FT8 or whatever else digital program remotely using your
cellphone. It is pretty neat to be making FT8 QSOs while walking around
the mall or sitting in a doctor's office. If you have the right rig and
right rig control software you can also do CW and SSB, although you might
be limited to canned messages. I picked up a few new band and/or mode
countries this year so far doing that.

Hello Everyone

I will be attempting to demonstrate a satellite Q at our local hamfest on
August 4th Saturday morning on FO-29 approximately 12:37 UTC and then again
in SO-50 at approximately 15:03 UTC and 16:45 UTC

I will be calling CQ as WD9HBF.

I invite anyone listening to give me a shout.

operator present at the radio? What happens when the rig or computer has an
issue and locks up during transmit??

Floyd,

There only has to be an operator present at the control point. In this case
he is controlling the rig with his phone, therefore it is the control point.

If you?re going portable then look into Dioptra as well, it similar to
Theodolite for iOS. Dioptra isn?t as feature rich as Theodolite but they
both do the basics perfectly, they give you location data and you can judge
minimum elevation in any direction you point it.

I have attempted to make the last two passes of AO-85 over the West
Coast, 8/3/2018 at 01:12 zulu on 8/03/18 and on 08/03/18 at 15:22 zulu.
I could hear a number of stations but it seemed that the bird was having
a hard time hearing me. I am running 2 HTs? at 5 W transmit full duplex
into an Arrow II hand held satellite antenna.
I had no problem hitting AO-92 at 18:19 today.
Thanks for your help.

All,

While many are preparing for the first Phase 4 amateur payload
in a geostationary satellite, the first Phase 5 amateur payload is
already operational in an elliptical orbit around the Moon. The
next transmissions from LongJiang 2 will be on 2018-08-05 from
00:30 to 02:30 UTC and from 07:30 to 09:30 UTC on 435.400 MHz
and 436.400 MHz.

Various experiments are being carried out with GMSK and JT4G
downlink signals. Stations with 'normal' amateur equipment can
receive the downlinks quite well. Downlink signals have even been
received with no more than an Arrow antenna, no preamp.

DK5LA was the first to have his signals relayed through LongJiang 2
on 2018-07-15. Today the first picture of an onboard camera was
downlinked with SSDV. The next SSDV test will be tomorrow.
Other experiments will follow later.

Why not give LongJiang 2 a try?

Yes it is.

I wrote up a short explanation on my website about it and a trick you can
use to get in if you use an Arrow antenna.

https://spacecomms.wordpress.com/ao-85-twist-trick-and-other-hints/

A lot of people (myself included) use a mobile radio set to 10, or up to 50
watts to get in easily from horizon to horizon. 250 watts ERP is advised
for horizon to horizon coverage.

One thing that isn't on my webpage is that it can be easier to get in on
north to south decending passes from AOS to TCA (max elevation), after that
it gets harder with only five watts. I found recently I didn't even have to
use the above mentioned trick with my Kenwood TH-D72 from AOS-TCA on
descending passes.

Paul:

For portable use (carried by a vehicle), I use the Go-Vertical USA tripod
adaptor.
You can use any of the various aluminum surplus GI masts for the legs (I use
6 on the legs, 2 each side) That will hold a small Yagi-UDa at up to 25 on
a low wind day
with no guys. I use the smooth mast sections only for the vertical risers,
and 1.75" mast clamps for guys for taller sections, up to 50 ft high. up to
35' is easy with one person;
over that height, you start to need help.

I know this isn't exactly satellite related, but I've asked for help in
other places, and the feedback has been sparse. You guys have always been
very helpful.
I'm looking for a portable antenna mast that I can use between passes while
satellite roving. I would like it to be able to go to at least 20', hold a 5
element M2 6 Meter yagi, be able to fit in a small truck and be portable.?
I have looked at numerous military surplus masts, like at Go-vertical-usa,
but they will not return any of my correspondence. I have looked into many
"home brew" solutions, but I'm just not that handy.

Anyone have any good sites I can go to for something that fits my needs?
Thanks in advance for your help!

On top of the normal hard-of-hearing issue, AO-85 was also in safe mode for
a while. It was commanded back into operation (according to my telemetry)
sometime between 2-Aug 2200 UTC and 3-August 1400. That could explain one
of your failed attempts.

The safe-mode issue is a software bug (blush) such that if it resets at the
wrong moment relative to being in auto-safe mode due to a long eclipse, it
stays in safe mode until commanded out. During that time, no transponder.
(No, I have not found the bug yet, and it can't be fixed from the ground
even when I do. It might exist in the other Fox-class satellites too.
However, they have been resetting much less frequently and not going into
auto-safe at all [as far as I know], so the bug might not might not show up
on them).
