If you don't have any other ideas:

Set BTEXT to a short beacon message that includes a
few sync bytes, your preferred text message and a few
bytes of forward error correction. You would have to
pre-compute these and manually enter the FEC bytes
at the end of the BTEXT. All of this would be sent
INSIDE the AX.25 packet as the BTEXT. That way
standard TNCs would still see the BTEXT message
and a few binary bytes (if they get a valid CRC)
but we could write DSP software to ignore the HDLC
flags, look for the sync bytes, and process the FEC
too. Depending on your message you might want to
8b10b encode it to avoid HDLC zero bit stuffing which
could complicate the ground software.

At four watts RF output, you don't need the FEC, but
it would be an interesting experiment, and easy to
do as you only need to pre-calculate the FEC once
and hardcode the BTEXT message.

A special K1N Satellite QSL will be made for our satellite QSO's.

To order one, go to ClubLog and process a QSL under K1N/SAT log. We are only
charging $1 for these QSL's but additional contributions can be made if you
wish.

You will need to change the call in your log "temporarily" to K1N/SAT in
order for this to work.

https://secure.clublog.org/logsearch/K1N/SAT

Cards ordered in this way cannot be combined with your regular K1N QSL.

Regular K1N QSLs (OQRS) is found at

https://secure.clublog.org/logsearch/K1N

Or, you can send in the old fashioned way, but I suggest including a special
separate card clearly marked as SATELLITE QSO (it can be in the same
envelope as your regular K1N QSL) if you use the direct mail method with an
SASE.

Any questions? Drop me an email n2oo@xxxxxxx.xxx

See ya' in the Pileups!

David,

I've had the Wimo up at my QTH in Northeastern South Dakota
for 8 years. I just checked it and it looks good and loads well.

Our weather blesses us with all of the usual challenges. We
have had temperatures from -35 C to 41 C and winds up to 135 KM/hr since I
have installed the antenna.

My only issue has been I had to re-tighten the clamp that holds it to the
crossboom as it is an un-balanced mechanical load.

Hi Joe and Jerry.

Thanks, it sounds like Wimo are worth a closer look with both the Helix and
SHF designs going into the satellite allocation.

Is the helix reasonably robust?

Unfortunately Jerry, my mechanical abilities are 'limited' but thanks for
the idea and HB design that works.

Joe said " Does this mean I may have a use for my L Band equipment soon?"

'Soon' is always a relative term when it comes to satellite construction
and launches, but don't sell it and when it's time to dust it off, check it
works on 1263.5MHz FM

David,

The WIMO Helix 23 worked great for me down into the satellite
frequencies.

Does this mean I may have a use for my L Band equipment soon?

Hi

I'm looking for a recommendation for an L band antenna suitable as a
groundstation uplink to a satellite in LEO.
Does anyone have anything they could check for SWR on 1264 MHz please?

Linear polarisation is fine as the receive antenna will have circular
polarisation. Most of the published data I've seen assumes the user will be
on 1296.

Any thoughts much appreciated

Many thanks

David G0MRF

ISS SSTV was received at 1107 UT the UK on 145.800 MHz FM. Hopefully
operation will continue as previously announced until 2130 UT Monday,
February 23.

You can receive the pictures using just a Baofeng HT.
