I am not an interested party, but, one who repairs equipment.
Newer is not better if longevity is the goal.
Older equipment performs very well and most is repairable.
If you newfangled super processor controlled rig gets tingled by a
lightning strike a block away and the processor dies, you have a
thousand dollar door stop.

Just my opinion as I have been asked to repair a lot of microprocessor
controlled rigs and specialized parts are not available.

I would like to extend my gracious thanks to Keith C. Baker (KB1SF/VA3KSF) and
his wife Kathryn (KB1OGF/VA3OGF) for chatting me up during the Tokyo Ham
Fair this past weekend, where they had set up a booth promoting the next
Dayton Hamvention.

https://i.imgur.com/Po65neI.jpg

As the former president and current treasurer of AMSAT, Mr. Baker was
tickled that I had on my Fox-1A T-shirt (that I wore specifically for the
occasion), and that spawned a great conversation about the current state of
amateur satellites -- he pointed out that it was the move to the
now-ubiquitous "cubesat" form factor that resulted in a Cambrian Explosion
of satellite development. We also chatted about each other's backgrounds,
and I got to interpret for some other interested Japanese attendees who had
come over.

Mr and Mrs Baker are both charming people and I hope they are here next
year for the 2019 event as well!

Hi David,

I have been using LMR-240-UF for that application with great success. A 10'
piece is only .6 dB loss at UHF. For all the current LEO satellites that
should not degrade performance enough to make a huge difference.

Subject: [amsat-bb] satellite flexible rotor-section coax question

Hello:
New to satellite communication I plan to construct a fixed station to work
satellites.

I am looking to identify best type of coaxial cable to run from my VHF/UHF
antennas around az/el rotors to the preamplifier (located on the fixed
mast/support).

Most important coaxial cable requirements include:

Highly Flexible (in upper midwest climate: temperatures range from ?15 deg
to +100 degrees F) in Repeated (continuous) flexing
Low Loss (while super flex Heliax would be my preference, it?s not designed
for repeated flexing this application sees
Full shielding (preserve S/N and overall system noise figure).

I can compare the loss values from manufacturer data sheets; my main
interest here is to learn what type of cable has withstood the repeated
(continuous) flexing required to work satellites?

What cable type do you recommend based on your experience? Thank you 73,

Heliax Superflex? Times Microwave LMR-600UF? EcoFlex 15 Plus? Belden
9913Flex? Something else?

There is more than one M2 antenna. I have had good success terrestrially
with the shorter antenna. The elements are stamped from a single piece of
metal, so it is simple to put together and you can't get the element
spacing or alignment wrong. It is rear mount if that is an
issue/advantage. DX Engineering will ship it to you rapidly:

I am using? a Fox Delta controller with my G5500. I am unable to calibrate
it? and make it function correctly. I do not see the controller that was
available for years on the AMSAT website. What controllers are available to
replace the FOX Delta? It will interface with sat32pc.
