For over 60 years, I have considered the function of WWV and WWVH to be
vital and quite necessary. As? youngster and before I owned a watch that did
not set itself, I listened to WWV to know the exact time. I also listened to
know of tropical happenings.

As a shortwave listener, I knew when certain bands below 30kc (kHz) would
allow communications.

These are things that ALL licensed hams should know.

Hi Roy,

This link is a great presentation of the history of WWV:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4487279/

Now as to the relevance of this facility in 2018, that's above my pay grade.
I find it humorous to see all the histrionics posted here. It reminds me of
the huge 'dust up' over the No-Code License. As a new ham, you may not be
familiar with one of the basic core values of ham radio: Always Make a
Mountain Out of a Mole Hill.

You should, however, join the ARRL for sure.

I've been licensed for about 2 years. I'm not an ARRL member, nor do
I have an ARRL handbook. I'm not trying to stir up muck here, I just
asked a simple question. What benefit do we get from WWV? I
certainly have had no cause to use it (at least knowingly) over the
course of the last couple of years.

Seriously, what am I missing out on?

Hello All,
?? This is probably? a windows issue but I'm curious if anyone else has
seen it. I'm running windows 8.1? and about once a week or maybe two
weeks I will see from the task manager that SDX has stop responding,
closing satpc32 fails to kill it and I have to go in and manually kill
it, I have tried many different serial ports usb/hard from the pc to the
rotor controller,? a different controller, running satpc32 as admin,
running it in compatibility mode for win 7 was the only thing that
"maybe" slowed it down a little.

Have I missed something? anyone else ever see SDX? stop responding?

Thanks
Kevin WA7FWF

p.s. my first attempt to post this failed, sorry if this becomes a repeat.

I have experienced the same problem for as long as SatPC32 and SDX has
run on the computer.? The computer runs Windows 7.? Have no idea what
the cause is.

Same issue on Windows 10. It sounds like a bug in SDX.

I have came up with a fix. I thought it was just my computer. My fix is to
once a week close the program down and restart it or it will lock up.

Stephen,

???? I'm thinking you have the winning suggestion, I will just set up a
task to? forcefully kill it and then restart it each morning at 3am.
