I copied my first telemetry from FunCube 1 back in 2016 and copied it for
several months, on and off. Then I got interested in other things and didn't
copy it for a while. Now I am back and have an anomaly that I would like to
have some advice on.

For the last few months I have not been very successful in copying
telemetry. I seem to be getting good signals with a M2 2MCP22 controlled in
AZ and EL. I use an Icom IC-910H for the receiver. I could not get dashboard
to reliably auto tune. I use HRD Satellite to tune the rig for doppler set
to 145.935. If I set the rig to USB, I don't copy anything. So just playing
around I tried CW and can hear the data but still not copy. Then I tried
adjusting the RIT and I stated copying. I only adjusted the RIT -0.65.

Should I go back to USB and adjust the frequency to find the signal?

Has the satellite changed from 145.935 or is it something here?

Thanks for your input!

Wouter,

With the new TLEs available I find that the best fit for JO 97 is now
object 43803.
But separation from object 43801 is only 2 s.

I get the best centered decodes on the SDR at 145.933.200

That holds nicely with the doppler corrections being applied by SDR Console
v 3.03

Rx with M2 Eggbeater at 7' and get about 100 frames every decent pass..

I do many unattended passes and get TLM from AO-73 just fine.

I am using an SDR with SDR Console v 3.03
It permits every receiver to set its own squelch. I feed the audio of each
rx to the decoding program.

It sits overnight and gets TLM from AO-85/91/92 because I have 3 rx running
at the same time with the SDR Console software.

SDRC v3 is windows only.

Doug,

We'll have to wait for Chris to answer the question about compensating for
the I/Q offset (which is what gives the peak in the middle). I have not
had that trouble at all, so I assumed he did it automatically like SDR#
does. I use (and the FIAB should have the same offset if you downloaded
the image) 145930 as the center frequency. That makes all the Foxes appear
on one side or the other. I have found birdies in the spectrum, which I
think comes from ethernet switches around my house. Some are pretty close
to Fox frequencies. To work around that, I go to the Spacecraft menu and
chose the particular s/c that is too close to the noise and adjust the
lower and upper search bounds a bit to exclude the noise. I think at worst
I made high maybe 3 or 4KHz above the center, and I had no trouble at AOS.

I assume that you do have "track" enable so that it is only looking within
those bounds for a signal?

BTW, do you have a FunCube Dongle Pro Plus (it has a + in the center of the
O in the logo)? Chris has not had a FCD Pro (not plus) to fiddle with so
it may have a worse problem.

Yes, I have both the pro and the pro plus. I am using the pro plus because
the front end filtering is supposed to be better, With the Pro (not plus) I
still have the IQ offset but I do not have the left and right images.
Limiting the scan range is a good idea and I will try it. The IQ offset and
images, on the pro plus, show up on both the computer and the Raspberry PI.
I put multiple ferrites on all cables connected to the PI and shielded the
Pro Plus with aluminum foil connected to RF ground with no improvement. The
spikes are there when I terminate with a 50 ohm load. The spikes are
definitely coming out of the Funcube.

Finally, you are correct, I have track enabled and I downloaded the image.

Hi
Whats the current operational status of AO-7?

I ask because I'm returning to amateur radio after a lapse of about
*cough*30 plus years!
AO-7 is like sn old friend i remember and wkuld love to try working sometime
soon for old times sake.

I understand its only operational when not eclipsed, but wondering about
prefered mode/power etc and frankly does anyone else still use the old dear
anymore?

Many thanks in advance

AO-7 is still working although attention to uplink power needs observed,
keep it low as possible.

It switches between U/V & V/A & still the go to satellite for working DX

You can see the status of all the satellites via the status page
http://www.amsat.org/status/

Look forward to hearing you on the birds

Hi Meeko,

I'd also been away from satellites for 20 years plus, came back for
a little activity this summer. That included looking for contacts on
AO-7 (worked a UA1).

Are the beacons still working? I've tried to get them many times, but
not a trace. Might be my modest setup, though.

Not really part of AMSAT stuff but close. Has anyone got numbers, software
or a
location spot on the net for the Comet 46P/Wirtanen.

I can find lots of sky charts but nothing like a readout/print we would have
for
satellites.

Any recommendations on a good book for VHF/UHF/SHF antenna theory,
construction, design? Hopefully including polarity switches.....or is it
really necessary?
