What Dave said. Pick out a station and call them, and you'll do much, much
better than the other method.

Chris,

The best thing to do is listen, listen and listen. If you hear a particular
station making contacts go ahead and give him/her a call. By doing that they
know you are actually hearing because you have picked out a particular call
to try. The incessant call dropping during a pass is typically an indicator
that the person isn't hearing the bird and just dropping his call in hopes
someone will bite.

Couldn?t you use a virtual comm port ? I use one with AC Log, FLdigi and my
Elecraft. In fact, Win4Ksuite makes use of them as well.

Agreed, unless you are at a he edge of the pass and don?t hear anyone yet,
the. I think it is proper to call your call and grid out, but please, for
the love of God, not every 5 -10 secs.

Hi!

Weather permitting - mainly, as long as the roads through the mountains
east of Phoenix aren't closed or covered with snow - I will make a drive
out to the DM52/DM53 grid line in southeastern Arizona for at least the
AO-91 and AO-92 passes tomorrow (Saturday, 29 December 2018). While
driving out there, I should be visible using APRS as WD9EWK-9:

http://aprs.fi/WD9EWK-9

Except while driving, I will use my @?????? Twitter account to post
updates while I am out there. If you don't have a Twitter account, you
can still see these updates using a web browser at:

http://twitter.com/WD9EWK

I will upload my DM52/DM53 log to Logbook of the World after I return
home. If you would like a DM52/DM53 QSL card to confirm a contact, please
e-mail me directly with the QSO details. If you are in my log, I will
send a card. No need to send me a QSL card or SASE.

Thanks, and 73!

Hello Everyone,

As you probably know since several weeks in the sky is a Polish ?bird?
called PW-SAT2. It is a students? project, and I?m not a PW-SAT2 member.
The bird is sending data on 70cm band (about 435.275 MHz SSB).

On 29 Dec. 2018 at about 7:12 UTC, there will be the first trial of sail
deployment. Now is 1k2 mode, however, the default mode is 9k6.

I cordially invite you to receive the signal from the PW-SAT2 and send
automatically (software Run_PW-Sat2_Ground_Station ) the data to the
PW-SAT2 team. The Run_PW-Sat2_Ground_Station software requires to load
?credentials?, which you can get from your account on the
https://radio.pw-sat.pl/ service.
The PW-SAT2 team prepared also some competition for HAM operators.

In a case that first trial of sail deployment will not successful, then
the next trials of sail deployment are scheduled for the next pass at
about 8:47 UTC or on 5th Jan. 2019 at 7:52 and 9:27 UTC.

Signal 1k2 is possible to decode from almost all transceivers, however,
SDR should be better.
Signal 9k6 is wider then 1k2 and only a few radios can receive fill
signal and decode, so SDR is better to use.
The recommended configuration os the station is: antenna >> (LNA) >> SDR
 >> Run_PW-Sat2_Ground_Station

I very appreciate to Piotr SP5ULN and PW-SAT2 team to advise about the
software and hardware configuration.

More details and software are here:

Good luck, 73 and Happy New Year!

Hi Folks,

I dont own an Alexa, but some (non ham radio) friends of mine got one for
Christmas and we have been experimenting!

It occurred to me that it would be great to be able to ask Alexa "Alexa,
when is the next pass of AO-85" Or even better "Alexa, notify me 5 minutes
before the next pass of AO-73".

I wonder if anyone has tried (and succeeded) in doing this?

You do like set a challenge :-)

I have an end point that I could modify for Alexa.

Actually I had thought about it a while ago.

what I was thinking of doing was somehow link gpredict and the features of
the AstroPi LED matrix to make it scroll when a satellite is overhead. I
have the idea, not the skillset. The Alexa has better potential, and I
would love to see that implemented.
