Hi Ed,

I just tried a generic KeySpan USB to serial adapter on my Win 7 Pro 64
bit machine and it worked fine. My default baud rate setting was 9600
from SATPC32. I did have to change the radio CAT speed to 9600 just for
the quick test (was 57600).

Hi Ed,

Perhaps you have an early serial number unit. They have known issues
with CAT control .....

"Yaesu appears to use the following format for serial numbers on their
amateur products:
Year of manufacture-Month of manufacture-Production Run-Individual Unit
number, where the month of manufacture is offset by 2, so "C" means
January, "D" means February, "E" means March, and so forth.
Example: 8G051234 = 1998, May (fifth month, or "G"), Production Run 05,
unit #1234 in this run.

One key serial number range is 8G05. This seems to be the point at which
Yaesu had corrected the bi-directional CAT issue and made some other
improvements. This version was made in May 1998. Later serial numbers
(e.g., 8L09nnnn) all seem to have incorporated the earlier improvements
plus newones."

I thought the RT system cables were intended for programing and not
control...... ?Is it possible that the control option is absent on your

FYI: the 847 has a standard serial port on back for CAT and programming.
If you are using a special cable it must be because you no longer have
computers with a serial port. I am lucky that almost all mine still have
them (intentional). On the two laptops without serial ports, I use
gearmo 4 port devices, the desktop uses a 8port PCI board from MOXA. No
issues ever with either device.

It does require a null modem cable/adapter, which is not the typical Yaesu
requirement.

"Real" serial ports are great, and save a lot of head scratching. ;)

Simplest way to set up Satpc32 with the FT847 is to use a 1 port FTDI USB TO
RS@x@ SERIAL NULL MODEM ADAPTER CABLE sold by StarTech.com The nomenclature
is ICUSB232FTN USB TO NULL MODEM ADAPTER CABLE Comes complete with Cd driver
I have been using this cable with no problems for several years on my Acer
windows 7 computer.. 73 JACK/KC7MG

Dave,

All the info is here:
https://www.qb50.eu/index.php/precursor-amateur-radio-operator

The transponders are not yet active as their primary mission is not
yet complete. This summer seems to be the latest estimate for that.

Just received in the mail a beautiful "diploma" from Poland's Slawek SQ3OOK -
for my submission of an SSTV image from the ISS last month.

MANY THANKS to Slawek for this effort.

If he offers this type of project in the future, take him up on the offer - it
is gorgeous, and already in a frame ... a scanned copy is viewable here ...

I was copying telemetry and uploading it for a while after launch, using
MixW and OnlineKISS. I think I even did a short YouTube video. They are easy
to hear!

There was not a lot of "fanfare" for this European amateur radio group's
project.
But I went ahead and mailed a SASE and followed the instructions ... and wow -
what a way to start the weekend - with another ISS SSTV project scheduled to
begin
in just a few hours!

Thank you for your message.
