Has anyone used a Mirage product since they became part of MFJ? If
so, with what results?

P.S. I talked to Jay at ARR just yesterday and he says they will not
be making any mast mounted preamps. I didn't ask about other models.

I find myself in the same boat! I've always depended on ARR for
preamps, but
they told me material cost to build the units will run the price up
too
much, so they decided to stop making the 2 M preamp I need.
Here is one you might want to look into Jim. I've only used Mirage for
their
pw amps in the past, but have been fairly satisfied with their product
and
repair service.

Thanks for the update on ARR. That's a shame.? I've been using them for
years in many different locations and they work great.? I have two UHF
in use here now.? I also have an SSB in my VHF EME array and it's great
as well.

I recently received a 70 cm mast mount preamp from ARR. It took nearly 2
months to fulfill the order, however.

Turns out HRO has some SSB units in stock including the SP-200 I
wanted.? So I've ordered one there.

I hope HRO continues to stock the SSB units.

The Minikets a couple folks suggested looks like a great option as well,
especially if I was going to expand the EME array and put a preamp at
the feed of each antenna.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Wow, this is big news concerning ARR and no more mast mounted preamps.....We
rely on them heavily for VT ground station systems for ham bands and for a
few other bands (our original preamps were also Landwehr).

Thanks Jim for bringing this up, and thanks to all for posting alternative
options. I?ll have to start keeping my eyes open for backups and
alternatives.

M2 Antennas also has a VHF preamp with similar specs/price to the ARR VHF
preamp?..though they only offer the VHF option. https://www.m2inc.com/FG2MPA

Dave,

I tried Mirage way back when and found the NF not so good.? In about
91ish when I was the command? station for AO-16 and DO-17 I remember
changing out a Mirage for an ARR and it made a measurable difference on
UHF.? I see on their current datasheet it's still not as good as SSB and
ARR (and probably others).

Having said that it's probably fine for most uses and $100 less than the
SSB I just ordered.

Nice to see the OMRON relays being used for RF.

W6PQL, who is amazingly creative and takes time to document his
adventures, has some data on these relays at RF:
