Hi,

A woman in Israel recently contacted me about including some of my
videos in a video she was going to make about how to view the ISS.
Well, she just uploaded that video and I have to say, it is pretty
good:

(To turn on English subtitles while viewing YouTube on the
web/desktop, click the CC button in the bottom right corner of the
video. On mobile, tap the three dots in the top right and then tap
captions)

Grid chasers,

Everything is still a go for this weekend?s rove to EM98 and EM97.
Generally, please plan on daylight passes being from EM98, and
evening/nighttime passes from EM97. I?ll start with some passes Thursday
evening if I am able to secure a site at my preferred campground in EM97.
While this is a personal trip, I still have to work Friday. I have meetings
until 1600Z and will try to be on some passes starting with the AO-92 @
1628Z through the PO-101 @ 1751Z.

I?ll be on as many passes I can among the following birds:

AO-85
AO-91
AO-92
PO-101
CAS-4A
CAS-4B
XW-2A
XW-2B

Through the weekend I?ll be hiking to some good outlooks for passes, but may
also do some fly fishing in the Gorge.

I?ll be driving through EM88 both ways, so I?ll stop once or twice each way
if you need that grid.

As always, my Twitter account will be your spot for the most up-to-date
information: https://twitter.com/MWimages <https://twitter.com/MWimages>

Thanks,
Michael, N4DCW

Hi!

AMSAT will be supporting the "Ham Radio Day Aboard the Queen Mary",
an on-air event which will include satellite operations from the RMS
Queen Mary, on Saturday, 14 December 2019. The Queen Mary is at the
Port of Long Beach in California, grid DM03vs. The satellite operations
will take place from the Queen Mary's Sports Deck, next to the W6RO
Wireless Room. Visitors are welcome, and hams with a copy of their
valid amateur license can board the ship for free on 14 December - a
$40 value!

QSL cards will be available from the Associated Radio Amateurs of Long
Beach (ARALB), using the process detailed at:

http://www.qrz.com/db/W6RO

Satellite contacts do not require the QSO number mentioned on this
page. W6RO does not use Logbook of the World.

This is the official statement about the event from ARALB:

**********

The Associated Radio Amateurs of Long Beach and the Queen Mary invite
you aboard the legendary ocean liner for Ham Radio Day Aboard the Queen
Mary on Saturday December 14th. Our world-famous station W6RO will be
fully staffed all day. Come visit the station, take a turn as a guest
operator, or work us on the air and earn our special 40th Anniversary
QSL card.

In addition, we will have the following special activities:

- Static displays of the Queen Mary?s vintage maritime radio equipment.

- On-air demonstrations of ham radio ?go-kits? at locations around the
ship.

- Demonstrations of ?eclectic communications gear?, including an Aldis
lamp and semaphore flags.

- Demonstrations of satellite ham radio, with actual contacts being
made through satellites in orbit.

Basic admission to board the ship is FREE for licensed radio amateurs
this day. Simply show your current amateur radio license at the Hotel
entrance and come aboard!

The free boarding offer is subject to the following restrictions:

- A valid FCC license document must be presented. (QM personnel will
not look you up in the FCC database, QRZ, etc.)

- Non-licensed friends and family members are not included.

- Free boarding of the ship does not include admission to the Queen
Mary Christmas event.

- Free boarding does not include parking. Normal parking rates apply.
For an alternative, ride the free Long Beach Transit Passport bus, or
try LBT?s AquaBus or AquaLink boat shuttles to get to the Queen Mary.

We?re looking forward to seeing YOU on board! 73

Is anyone using the Icom 9100 to RX 9600 baud Fox Telemetry thru the USB
port? I'm using the 9100 this way to collect Falconsat-3 telemetry, but not
able to do so with the Fox telemetry. I also can RX 9600 baud APRS packets.
I'm using the Data mode DFM, and 9600 baud menu item 57 is set to ON. I've
also tried to different sound level setting in the win10 sound control
panel, but no joy..

I have never been able to get the USB route to work in the 9100. I suspect
low frequencies are being cut off/filtered.

I saw this on an old AMSAT-BB email chain:
https://amsat.org/pipermail/amsat-bb/2015-May/053249.html
It says it has to be done through the data jack not the USB port.?

Hi Mark and Jeff,
??? In the past I would have agreed that something was being filtered out.
Having recently taken some spectrum pics of DUV I'm not so sure,

https://www.dropbox.com/s/ghuo0jtg527b20s/duv.jpg?dl=0

The upper pic is the Data2 output the lower pic is USB to my eye they
both look the same.

USB mode with foxtelem tries to work, you see a eye try to form, but
even using Data2 for an input I rarely see the SNR exceed 5, of course
the soundcard you are using can make a big difference also.

 ?So I dunno

I bet if someone bought Chris Thompson (G0KLA) a nice 9100, he might
prioritize getting it to work. ;-)

Amateur Radio on the International Space Station?

?

Contact Opportunity?

?

Call for Proposals?

?

Current Proposal Window is October 1, 2019 to November 30, 2019

?

Upcoming Proposal Window is February 1, 2020 to March 31, 2020?

?

The Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) Program is
seeking formal and informal education institutions and organizations,
individually or working together, to host an Amateur Radio contact with a
crew member on board the ISS. ARISS anticipates that the contact for
proposals submitted in the proposal window now open would be held between
July 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020.? ARISS is happy to announce a second
proposal window will open February 1, 2020 for contacts that would be held
between January 1, 2021 and June 30, 2021. Crew scheduling and ISS orbits
will determine the exact contact dates. To maximize these radio contact
opportunities, ARISS is looking for organizations that will draw large
numbers of participants and integrate the contact into a well-developed
education plan.?

?

The deadline to submit proposals for contacts between July 1, 2020 and
December 31, 2020 is November 30, 2019.? The proposal window for contacts
between January 1, 2021 and June 30, 2021 will open on February 1, 2020 and
close on March 31, 2020.? Proposal information and documents can be found at
www.ariss.org. Two ARISS Introductory Webinar sessions will be held on
November 7, 2019. The first is at 6:00 PM ET and the second is at 9:00 PM
ET. The same material will be covered during both sessions, so choose the
session that best fits your schedule. The Eventbrite link to sign up
is?https://ariss-introductory-webinar-fall-2019.eventbrite.com?.

?

The Opportunity?

?

Crew members aboard the International Space Station will participate in
scheduled Amateur Radio contacts. These radio contacts are approximately 10
minutes in length and allow students to interact with the astronauts through
a question-and-answer session.?

?

An ARISS contact is a voice-only communication opportunity via Amateur Radio
between astronauts and cosmonauts aboard the space station and classrooms
and communities. ARISS contacts afford education audiences the opportunity
to learn firsthand from astronauts what it is like to live and work in space
and to learn about space research conducted on the ISS. Students also will
have an opportunity to learn about satellite communication, wireless
technology, and radio science. Because of the nature of human spaceflight
and the complexity of scheduling activities aboard the ISS, organizations
must demonstrate flexibility to accommodate changes in dates and times of
the radio contact.?

?

Amateur Radio organizations around the world with the support of NASA and
space agencies in Russia, Canada, Japan and Europe present educational
organizations with this opportunity. The ham radio organizations' volunteer
efforts provide the equipment and operational support to enable
communication between crew on the ISS and students around the world using
Amateur Radio.??

About ARISS:

?

Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) is a cooperative
venture of international amateur radio societies and the space agencies that
support the International Space Station (ISS).? In the United States,
sponsors are the Radio Amateur Satellite Corporation (AMSAT), the American
Radio Relay League (ARRL), the ISS National Lab and National Aeronautics and
Space Administration (NASA). The primary goal of ARISS is to promote
exploration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEAM)
topics by organizing scheduled contacts via amateur radio between crew
members aboard the ISS and students in classrooms or public forms. Before
and during these radio contacts, students, educators, parents, and
communities learn about space, space technologies, and amateur radio. For
more information, see www.ariss.org.
