So... not to sound like I don't care, I really do.

But, there isn't anything you can do about it unless you capture the person
with video with the mic in their hand.

Here in Toronto, several of us have spent thousands of hours chasing
people. We even have video of a guy in his living room doing it. I had
Industry Canada and the RCMP (since it was a Federal Offense) on the street
with us. They agreed, he was breaking the law. To which they both said,
so what. I have other more important cases and this is just a hobby. If
you catch in interfering with health or safety, call us back.

And, with that. FM, DSTAR and DMR are about dead in Southern Ontario.
And, there are a lot of hams here. The population is about 11 million.

The best solution. Give up on FM and move to a Linear bird. Invest in it
and you'll love the difference. For myself and my friends, FM, DSTAR and
DMR are dead. I do HF and weak signal SSB, CW, etc. Way more satisfying
than the CB crap we are hearing now.

Ok, off soapbox. Flame retardant suit is on.

How is moving to linears a solution? What happens when somebody puts a
repeater output in the passband of a linear uplink? Same thing (if not
worse - due to FM signal blowing out all other signals).

The best solution is to find the trustee of the repeater and work with them
to either change the output of the repeater, no?

 Mike,
First....? With the WX now being FB, I'm making some sketchy plans? ?to get
out of home confinement and do some roving. But, with all the? ?craziness on
the FM birds I keep hearing about, I will probably plan? ?most of my
activity on the Linears. It would really tick me off to spend? ?the time and
money to activate some juicy Grid on FM only to be QRM'd? ?into a waste of
effort.
Second...? Sorry to hear about the radio problems in your area. It must be??
?awfully frustrating for the Hams that spent the time and effort to put
capabilities? ?on the air and be unable to use them properly. I'm the
License Trustee of? ?three Repeaters for our Club. If I was to ever hear any
of them being used? ?improperly, they'd be switched off immediately and
continuously until the? ?abusers went away. They would NOT be taking over
OUR facilities!!

I wouldn't mix this together with purposeful QRM, which is a separate
problem.

Maybe somone can set something up to record the repeater during satellite
passes so we can prove or disprove it.

This would be a good youtube link to send the W1GLO club as well.

I think Mike was saying people were a local nuisance by QRMing local
repeaters, not referring to the repeater that is supposedly QRMing the sat.

Hi Roy

What happens when the world ends? You and I and just about everyone is not
able to control the future.

If we all thought about 'what if' we wouldn't have gotten out of the stone
age and the Wright Brothers wouldn't have flown.

All we can do is deal with the present and the facts we have at hand.

I look at it this way. If all the idiots want to jam the crap out of the
FM birds, so be it. That means they are leaving the linear birds alone.

Before I list this on the usual amateur radio sales sites, I thought I'd
offer it to the AMSAT community.
It has served me well on the satellites and elsewhere. With an IC-9700 and
IC-7300, this is excess to my needs.

IC-9100 with 1.2 GHz module, carrying handle, mic, power cable, manual and
original box. No other optional
modules/accessories.
$1425 shipped CONUS.

If interested, contact me off the BB. aa5pk (at) hotmail (dot) com

Another option is to move up the bands. Microwave bands are more easily
accessible these days with SDR, and the antennas are smaller.

Mike, perhaps my use of the term "QRM" is incorrect, or perhaps you didn't
listen to the recording?

This is not one or more "a-hole" operators intentionally trying to
interfere with satellite operators. This is the output of a New England
(we think, based on operator accents and 1 area callsigns) repeater that is
either on the AO-92 uplink, or has a very strong harmonic accomplishing
the same thing. From what I've read, the AMSAT team is working with at
least one repeater on a solution, and they have continued to ask for
recordings.

And again, I stress that somebody putting a repeater output in the same
uplink frequency band as any of the linears will cause the EXACT same
problem, if not even worse. So we should either nip this in the bud, or
face giving up the satellite sub-bands entirely.

As far as your "what if" comment, people like the Wright Brothers DID, in
fact, think "what if". In less than a week we will have the first
purpose designed commercial space flight service....
