I'm having trouble with the AMSAT D-Star reflectors. I can hear traffic
with no difficulty, but I am not heard when I transmit. Other reflectors
work fine (30C, 1C, 4B, etc). I've tried the various alternative
reflectors that are hooked together (DCS, XLX, XRF systems using
reflectors 28C, SAT, and SIN). When I transmit, the Pi-Star shows me
getting into the hotspot and it shows the reflector connected. The
gateway pages for the reflectors sometimes show me connected, sometimes
they don't.

My hotspot is a RPi 3 running Pi-Star 4.1.2 with a DVMega board
(firmware 3.26) -- both the newest versions
I've tried accessing the hotspot with both my TH-D74A and Icom ID-51A
I use the Pi-Star interface to change reflectors
I can use the AMSAT reflectors from my Windows computer with an AMBE
stick and BlueDV

If anyone has any insights as to why my transmissions aren't getting to
the system I'd appreciate advice.

I don't know if the 9700 has TX EQ. The 7600 does.

Hmm, you just triggered something about TNC's I'll research.

What is the setup to decode ?

I?ll try to replicate the problem as I have a 9612 somewhere in the storage.

The DFW Metroplex has had a local AMSAT net for at least 35 years on the
Arlington ARC repeater each Wednesday evening. It continues to be a great
home for the net. I am a regular net control and have taken over the
organization of the net following the passing of our late friend, Keith
Pugh, W5IU.

The metro area has grown so much to the North and East however, that most
likely, folks up in that area have no way to get into the Arlington machine
which is in the southwest quadrant, which in some cases is over 60 miles
away. I tried to engage a linked repeater group in the area but they were
not willing to host a "Non-Affiliated net" on their system. The Arlington
machine has no Internet connectivity for modes like Wires-X or other of the
digital voice modes.

Thus I proposed to the Dallas Amateur Radio Club, of which I am a member, to
let me host an AMSAT net-EAST. Dates will be every Tuesday at 8PM CT except
the first Tuesday of the month. DARC does have an Echolink node on W5FC-R
so it will allow for folks who can't hit it by RF, a chance still to get in
with a local group of satellite enthusiasts. Oh yes, we will continue to
host the West net on the Arlington machine as will. Yup, this is the same
time as the Houston AMSAT net, which has an Echolink presence at the same
time, but no intentional competition is intended. That is the slot DARC
could give me. Our first DFW AMSAT East net is tomorrow, September 8th.

I am posting this here, because I am hoping to do something unique with this
net. I want to have a 20 minute "Expert" section where satellite chasers,
designers, rovers, data downloaders, antenna builders and more, can share
their passion for certain aspects of the hobby. Having an Echolink
connection to the repeater means it will be easy to draw from the larger
AMSAT community, both here and abroad. If you would be interested in being
a part of this one week, please do drop me a note off list and we can
discuss and set up a week for you to present.

Hope yo can be a part of this new outreach venture.

?Candidates whom are running for a position on the AMSAT BoDs are allowed to
use AMSAT?s publications/media in order to campaign per AMSAT bylaws. As
such, this email is an allowed campaign email.

If you are eligible to vote in this year?s election and have not yet done
so, please consider casting your vote for me, Howie AB2S and Bob N4HY. This
election cycle has been quite heated, as it should be. Myself and those I
endorse want to change how AMSAT is operated. We want to see the
organization follow its bylaws and the Code of Washington D.C. and to remove
the dark cloud which is currently hanging over the organization. This dark
cloud has been brought about by the organization being treated as a
clubhouse and not a non-profit business. During this election cycle, AMSAT
members have learned that their elected officials have squandered membership
monies in a complete violation of bylaws and Washington DC corporate code.
This HAS to stop. AMSAT members have learned that the BoDs refuse (the
majority of them including those running for re-election) to have regular
meetings. How can any organization survive in this manner?

A few days ago, one of the BoDs and the VP of Engineering stated on QRZ.com
that he couldn?t be bothered with the failure of AO-92 and that if anyone
wanted to know what happened to it, they could look at the data but he was
too busy to do so. Folks, that is the attitude of the majority of the BoDs,
they simply don?t seem to care. What kind of leadership is that? Those
incumbents running against me are promising you an HEO satellite but they
can?t even tell us why AO-95 never worked, AO-92 is basically dead and
HO-107 only lasted a few days. Members deserve leadership and answers, not
false promises.

This will be my last campaign email of the season. I?m just asking people to
take a objective and not subjective look at AMSAT as it stands today. If
emotions are removed, it?s easy to see that AMSAT is failing financially,
ethically and failing in being a world-class leader of keeping amateur radio
in space. If you are a member and haven?t voted, please do so tomorrow so
that your ballot will reach the Secretary in time to be counted.

AMSAT is worth saving but if changes don?t happen soon. There won?t be
anything left to save. AMSAT needs real leadership not just uninterested OM
that enjoy having a title. Let?s keep the organization going for decades to
come. This can happen with a vote for me, Howie and Bob.

Thanks for your time and I look forward to hearing you on the air. 73!

Hello,

I downloaded and installed the Fox 1 Telemetry tool. A group of us are
going to discuss using this tool during our weekly net tonight, and It
thought it would be helpful to have a couple of audio files to practice
decoding.

If you have one or two telemetry audio files that you could send to

Thanks,

Jeff stated ? A few days ago, one of the BoDs and the VP of Engineering
stated on that he couldn?t be bothered with the failure of AO-92 and that if
anyone wanted to know what happened to it, they could look at the data but
he was too busy to do so. ?

This is incredibly misleading and distorted. The VP of engineering said no
such thing. In fact if you take the time to actually read his statement he
offered to share information if someone wanted to dig deeper. He did say
that current engineering priorities were ?focused on Golf?. This is a far
cry from saying he couldn?t be bothered with the failure of AO-92.
You can look it up and read it for Yourself.

People, please, do your fact checking and don?t be mislead by distortions of
the truth.

Interpretation of the statement aside what I find interesting is that this
sort of news and subsequent discussion is not happening on this list.
Surely the whole point of having a central point of focus is that all
information should be here. Do I need to subscribe to QRZ.com now to find
out what's going on in the world of AMSAT?

Why aren't the various BoD people giving regular updates here for us all to

I would like to see regular updates again, in an environment that is free
of legal intimidation and rich of engineering activity, like it use to
be... That's why I voted for: Hammond, Paige, Stoetzer.

AMSAT should be voting for people who speak well about AMSAT, work for
AMSAT and want it to continue to evolve and grow. I have seen some board
members speak up now and then, but it seems limited now and focused on
answering specific engineering questions.

I'm not on the board of AMSAT, or involved with the board in any way, but
from all observations i've been able to make from the -bb traffic, it seems
like many on the BOD are being forced to walk on eggshells with their words
and are being stifled due to legal threats. Reference the -bb email
"[Reply to W5PFG's letter of 10 July 2020", and all it's majesty. With an
email like this being sent publically to the -bb, who knows what else has
gone on behind the scenes or in board meetings. Not sure if the email was
sent just-for-show or not (you know how some people can be these days...),
but that's the work of Patrick and Michelle (ref the email), whom appear to
be part of the root cause of the deafening silence we are experiencing from
the board. If you want to do AMSAT a service, sift through the -bb and
vote-away the friends-and-family of ORI. Otherwise, it feels like it will
be the last year, ad-infinitum, minus any engineering activity.

About ARISS:

?

Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) is a cooperative
venture of international amateur radio societies and the space agencies that
support the International Space Station (ISS).? In the United States,
sponsors are the Radio Amateur Satellite Corporation (AMSAT), the American
Radio Relay League (ARRL), the ISS National Lab and National Aeronautics and
Space Administration (NASA). The primary goal of ARISS is to promote
exploration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEAM)
topics by organizing scheduled contacts via amateur radio between crew
members aboard the ISS and students in classrooms or public forms. Before
and during these radio contacts, students, educators, parents, and
communities learn about space, space technologies, and amateur radio. For
more information, see www.ariss.org.
