For those of you with Fox-in-a-box telemetry stations (Fun Cube Dongle in a
Raspberry Pi with FoxTelem software), FoxTelem 1.09 has been successfully
tested on an FIAB.

It is easy to update your FIAB with the new FoxTelem version. Some time
ago, I provided the instructions for upgrading to a new FoxTelem release at
http://burnsfisher.com/AMSAT/FoxInABox/Updating%20FoxTelem%20on%20your%20Fox-i
n-a-Box.txt
and they will not have changed significantly other than the version numbers.

In any case, over the next few days, I will update and post the
instructions as well as making the new version available on the FIAB SD
cards sold in the AMSAT store and (a bit after that) on the free download.

Thanks to Chris for a great new version!

Burns WB1FJ

Is there a link available to a description of the FOX-1E telemetry format?
(modulation, framing, error correction, packet descriptions, etc...)

It would be nice to implement a decoder within SatNOGS, to enable the 300+
ground stations around the world to contribute telemetry...

A related question: When decoding the BPSK telemetry, what audio IF range
can it be present in?

In the SatNOGS BPSK demodulator flowgraph, the audio output part of the
flowgraph places the signal at a 12 kHz IF. This is necessary for 9k6 BPSK
transmissions, and we fixed it at 12 kHz even for 1200 baud BPSK to ensure
the signal would remain within the 24 kHz passband (48 kHz sample rate)
even if there was a bit of drift at either the ground-station or sat. The
audio recordings are currently mainly used with the Funcube telemetry
decoder, which is quite happy to decode 1200 baud BPSK at the 12 kHz IF.

An example of such an audio recording, with a 1200 baud BPSK signal at 12
kHz IF is here:
https://ia803207.us.archive.org/32/items/satnogs-observation-2403591/satnogs_2
403591_2020-06-19T00-39-49.ogg

Can FoxTelem be configured to accept BPSK at this IF? If so, then it will
be possible to use any of the audio recordings from SatNOGS observations,
even if a decoder is not developed in time.

I was just advised that, contrary to the RS-44 line in the JE9PEL file, it
should be REV rather than NOR. If so, that would explain a lot.

Delete the (DOSAFF-85) part

Here are my 2. I have the Beacon first so that the receiver is on the
Beacon when I first go there.

The 2nd one puts the radio in the middle of the passband with my
adjustments. You may have to fine tune your uplink.

NOR instead of REV is the problem. Had exactly the same symptoms you
describe on CAS-4A and B because they were set to NOR. Changing that
parameter did the trick.73,

It may also help if you save the file with the correct name as
Doppler.SQF rather than as Doppler.SQX

<mycall>@<??????>.com and I'll revise the announcement.
This list was developed by comparing the ARRL .pdf listings
for the two months. It's a visual comparison so omissions
are possible. Apologies if your call was not mentioned.
Thanks to all those who are roving to grids that are rarely
on the birds. They are doing most of the work!

Thanks to all for the replies. I am in Slovakia, JN88, until 14 December,
so if I can get this sorted I can hopefully give out a few transatlantic
QSOs on AO-7 and RS-44 (from this QTH, I once once held the AO-7 record for
longest QSO, with KC0RA in Iowa).?
Two other quick questions:
1) What is the best source for the latest Doppler.SQF file? The JE9PEL file
linked on the AMSAT UK website
(https://amsat-uk.org/satellites/satpc32-doppler-sqf-file/) is not accurate.
In addition to incorrectly showing RS-44 as NOR, it also is incorrect for
CAS-4A and CAS-4B, and perhaps others.
2) Any tips for fine tuning the frequencies on SatPC32? I was very active on
the sats about 10 years ago, and I recall it being an easy process,
just?click the Uplink Calibration buttons in the CAT Control window while
TXing until the voice sounds natural, then save by clicking Change/Store
Data File and then RX/TX Freq. Data. Am I forgetting something? Seems to
require recalibration on every new pass, in was not like that 10 years ago.

It may also help if you save the file with the correct name as
Doppler.SQF rather than as Doppler.SQX

the CAT Control window until my voice sounded natural. It was pretty far
off, something like 8800hz. To save, I clicked on Change/Store Data File and
then clicked RX/TX Freq. Data. I thought this was all I needed to do, but on
the next pass my TX and RX were again out of sync. On every pass, I need to
start over, and each time the uplink frequency is several thousand hertz
off. My current line is: RS-44
