Let's see if I can get the calculations right for XW-2E and XW-2F
using NASA's Debris Assessment Software 2.0 software (Available here:
http://orbitaldebris.jsc.nasa.gov/mitigate/das.html) and the latest
solar flux data file from January 14, 2015.

The orbit parameters from the latest CelesTrak elements are:

Perigee: 528 km
Apogee: 551 km
Inclination: 97.4577 degrees
R. A. of the Ascending Node: 272.9393 degrees
Argument of Perigee: 247.5115 degrees

Now to calculate the Area to Mass ratio (we'll have to ignore the
antennas here).

The XW-2E and XW-2F dimensions provided by CAMSAT are:

Dimensions: 110Lx110Wx110H mm
Mass: 1.5kg

The cross sectional surface area of a cube is simply the area of one
of the sides: 110x110 mm = 12100 mm^2 or 0.0121 m^2.

0.0121 m^2 / 1.5 kg = Area to Mass ratio of 0.008067 m^2 / kg

DAS 2.0 shows a calculated orbit lifetime of 8.487 years with those
parameters.

Anyone care to correct any of this (or do the calculations for the
other satellites) ? I am very much an amateur :)

I also put the others into the calculator using the same orbital elements.

XW-2A = 0.008 m^2 / kg = 8.515 years
XW-2B/2C/2D = 0.006944 m^2 / kg = 9.183 years
LilacSat-2 = 0.00363636 m^2 / kg = 18.229 years

Hi Kev,

Create your own txt file and place it in the directory SatPC32 and
Orbitron use as TLE location.

- SatPC32:

open cmd.exe
cd %APPDATA%\SatPC32\Kepler
notepad <your file>.txt
copy the TLE data in this file

after this you can select the file you created when using the
Satellites option.

- Orbitron:

cd <orbitron map>\Tle
notepad <your file>.txt
copy the TLE data in this file

after this you can select the file you created from the load tle
option.

I forgot to post this information here on the -BB. I have uploaded
my two RF recordings from HDSDR for the passes I heard on Sunday
afternoon/evening, just after 0000 and 0130 UTC. Both are in my
Dropbox space at:

Look for the recordings with filenames starting with "HDSDR_20150921"
to get them. I also have photos of my station, screengrabs from the
AmsatDroid Free app on my phone, and photos of the configuration I used
in HDSDR with my SDRplay receiver - those have filenames starting with
20150920 or 20150921.

I was not able to work last night's passes due to rain at home. If
there is no rain, I hope to be on an overhead pass this evening around
0110 UTC with my FT-817ND/SDRplay station to hear the 6 satellites,
and making QSOs on the working transponders.

 Very nicely done Patrick. I ordered the SDRplay yesterday afternoon and
will be setting it up on my laptop tomorrow. I'm starting to feel sorry I
sold my 2 817's when I downsized :-( but on the other hand I don't really
plan on doing much portable ops anymore. Anyway Your last email will be a
great help in setting up HDSDR, thanks....

Hi Kev,
you can do the following (besides the methode Jan, PE0SAT, described
already):
In SatPC32 click menu "?"  >  "Auxiliary Files"  > "Celestrak.SQF" and
add the following line to the data section:

http://www.celestrak.com/NORAD/elements/tle-new.txt

Save the file and restart SatPC32.

You can now download the Celestrak Kepsfile tle-new (with the UpdateKeps
button). It will then appeasr in the left list of menu "Satellites". It
contains the current Keps for the XW2-3 satellites and others.  The
object 2015-049L is XW2- 3E (= CAS-3E).
I added that satellite to group "Diverse" (menu "Satellites").
In Doppler.SQF add  the following lines for this satellite (names in
Doppler.SQF and Kepsfile must be the same):
2015-049L,145925.0,435280.0,USB,LSB,REV,0,0,Transponder
2015-049L,145910.0,0,USB,,0,CW Beacon
Save that file also and restart SatPC32.

This morning I had a QSO over the satellite. The signal is very good.
Doppler correction by the program worked very well. I heard may signal
during the whole pass without any frequency correction.

Thanks! Good luck with getting your SDRplay set up. It
has worked well for me, once I figured out some of the
configuration settings in it. Too bad you don't still
have one of your 817s around, so you could make a
small station with an 817 and the SDRplay, and have the
option to control it all in SatPC32.

 It's amazing when you think about how long the 817 has been around. I
remember over 10 years ago setting up my two 817's with SatPC32 at the
Orlando AMSAT booth as a demo letting people tune the u/l or d/l  while
watching the 817's following each other. I might get yet another 817, but
present plans are adding the SDRplay to my base stations, and to my FD SUV
tailgate setup, a Kenwood B2000 with d700 control head, laptop, various
arrow antennas, and 1/4 wave roof mounted vertical antennas. I think that's
about as portable as I'm going to get anymore...

Interested  in hosting an ARISS contact?  The window is now open from
2015-09-01 to  2015-11-01. These proposals will be for school contacts
during the
second half  of 2016.  Go to http://www.arrl.org/hosting-an-ariss-contact

To help organizations in preparing their proposals, the  ARISS Program
Coordinator will offer hour-long online information sessions.  These are
designed to provide more information regarding US ARISS contacts and  the
proposal
process and offer an opportunity to ask questions. While attending  an
online information session is not required, it is strongly  encouraged.
These will be offered Thursday, September 17, at 2000 UTC;  Tuesday,
September 22, at 2000 UTC, and Wednesday, September 30, at 2300 UTC.  Advance
registration is necessary.  Email ARISS (ariss@xxxx.xxxx to sign up  for an
information  session.
