Ignoring the AFC on the uplink receiver, I would program 5 channels, from
10kHz low on approach, to 10kHz high as it leaves, with the 67Hz tone on all
of them.

Hello-With the new Chinese satellites and now Fox. There is a bewildering
and confusing amount of information. Fox is also called AO-85 and grace 2.
For the "digitally challenged" is there one place where all the basic
information Keps, Doppler.sqf etc. Can be found? With "simple" directions,
for simple people. On occasion I have inquired to several of you for
assistance (thanks Glenn). Wanting to be independent of that process do we
have a "watering hole" where we can go.

Hi

Is the Fox-1A open for use? it was my understanding that it was going to
take between 2 days to 2 weeks to commission the new satellite and not to be
used during this period.
Listening to night the satellite pass starting at 20:24 the satellite is
taking a hammering with stations from all over Europe I don't think many if
any QSO's took place.

Hello, new poster to this list.

Using a handheld transceiver and a dual-band vertical on an outside mast, I
heard the AO-85 downlink starting at 11:15UTC Oct. 9 as it passed over the
Sea of Japan. Signals ranged from full quieting to QSB due to what I believe
to be the sat's motion in
space (rotating at about 10 rpm?).

Recording here:
https://soundcloud.com/minus2c/fox-1a-ao-85-fm-transponder-test-oct-9-2015

Keep up the excellent work. Can't wait to work the new bird.

Thank you so much! I have been reading all the emails about this new
sat even though I haven't tried RXing it or anything yet. I hope to
try tomorrow night when there will be a decent pass here on the east
coast of North America

Is anyone seeing the error "Zugriffsverletzung" or (accessviolation) in
SatPC32 when they d/l keps? I'm seeing it on two different computers. It
started at the same time, a few days ago. I can work out of it by closing
and opening SatPC32 and sometime having to replace the standart.sat file in
the process.

Message-ID: <56183453.4030709@xxxxxxxx.xxx>

Hi all,

I have listened to AO-85 transponder on its two last passes over Europe.
Equipment is an Arrow antenna, FT-817ND for RX and FT-2D for TX. The
signal is very good, peaking S9+ on the last overhead pass, and usually
S7 or so (for comparison, SO-50 is usually S0 and peaks S1 or S2 sometimes).

However, the transponder is such a big mess. Many stations are
overmodulating the receiver and are in fact very difficult to copy.
Everybody stepping on each other's QSOs and people calling CQ without
listening.

We should probably remind this:
http://www.dk3wn.info/p/?p=64736

I tried to get on the transponder, but it seems impossible with just 5W
and many people probably using high power. There have also been some
reports that you might need a bit more than 5W to be heard sometimes.

Just to confirm: is there any offset on the uplink, or just 435.180 +-
the usual Doppler should work?

Perhaps, until the novelty passes away I should limit myself to record
and upload telemetry, because it seems quite difficult to get a QSO in
this conditions.

My apologies for this small rant.

73,

Dani M0HXM/EA4GPZ.

Free (hams like free!) access to electronics and radio magazines from the
past. Something to read while waiting for that next AO-85 pass ...

Hover mouse over Broadcast & Consumer for a menu
Hover mouse over Consumer Electronics then Popular Electronics & Similar

The old issues download as PDF files. Gotta try it on my tablet to see if it
works in the little room down the hall ...

Just set up new computer, new GS232, new SatPC32, old G5400B.

Managed to get SatPC32 to talk to ServerSDX and get it to talk to the
GS232 and calibrated the rotors.

Where in SatPC32 or ServerSDX does it show me the current position of
the rotors?

I already contacted Erich on the problem, he is not seeing it, but he said
he is getting ready to upload a new setup file with some larger arrays. He's
not sure this will help, but we will see. It's been awhile since my
Satellite array has been full, maybe 10 years??

Very bummed out.
So, just has a direct overhead pass. Still not able to decode any data.
What was that wide banded high-pitched tone? The tone lasted almost a whole
pass without a break. At first I did hear what sounded like a QSO, but
almost impossible to understand. Anyone else having the same experience?

I heard the same thing. At first before the pass, I heard CW. I think
that was RS-30. However, when the pass started at 00:11 my time here, I
heard the satellite carrier. A minute or so into the pass I heard K4KEG
calling and made a contact with someone. I didn't hear myself, but
shortly the tone mentioned below came on and was on the remainder of the
pass.
