I've been using FM Wide without much problem on Lilacsat-2

I've had better luck without Narrow on my Icom satellite radios. On my
Yaesu radios, however, LilacSat-2 seems to sound a bit better with
Narrow on the downlink. Just my experience/preference.

Actually, it's up to 800 mW - 500 mW nominal.

Loon,

I have not used that specific model of Comet duplexer, but have
used the CF-4160 duplexers (SO-239 sockets all around, no coax
leads coming from the duplexer's case). They work, the similar
models from Diamond work, and even the MFJ-916 series work. I
am currently using the MFJ-916B for my two-radio setups with my
Elk antenna, and have had good luck with it. By the way, the
MFJ duplexers are about half the price of the comparable units
from Comet or Diamond - and the MFJ duplexers are made in the
Far East, not Mississippi.

Good luck, and 73!

Earlier in the day the astronauts will be involved in an EVA (space walk).
If all goes well Kjell should be out of his space suit and on the radio at
the scheduled time on Thursday. If things go south, however, the EVA could
bleed into our event. NASA Planning has already booked our Option #3 as the
backup. This is a 54 deg pass on Friday 2015-10-23 at 17:53:51 UTC.

Jeff,

Judging from what the Port Huron police officers said,
posting a sign or anything like this would have probably
still meant the Wendy's manager was calling the police,
once I started pointing my antenna skyward. It happens.

I have had many encounters with law enforcement over the
years when working satellites. All of them pretty much end
the same way as my encounter in Port Huron on Monday evening.
Only once was I encouraged to go somewhere else, although
I was told at the same time I was not breaking any laws or
regulations where I happened to be operating (in the hotel
parking lot, outside the site of the 2014 AMSAT Symposium,
near BWI airport in Baltimore).

?Specifically for Monday evening in Port Huron, I knew I was
not on the Wendy's property, so I didn't bother saying
anything to them. The law enforcement encounter went as
quickly as most of these encounters go. That event last year
in Baltimore was probably the longest encounter I have ever
had related to my satellite operating, at around 20 minutes
in the parking lot with those officers (initially two, then
a third arrived during the 20-minute encounter - each with
their vehicles, blocking cars in that part of the hotel's
parking lot). In the end, it is sometimes easier to beg for
forgiveness than ask for permission, as it is usually
easier for someone to say "no" when asked for something
they may not know much about. ?

All right, I can kind of understand this one. With all the reported incidents
of people with laser pointers aimed with aircraft, and the constant fear
of someone maliciously interfering with aviation radio traffic (a
potentially life-threatening situation), I could imagine someone getting
nervous if they saw some dude near the airport with an antenna tracking
something in the sky.

Most of the time when I'm in public with a yagi it's in the middle of a
deserted rice field or in a public park away from crowds. Luckily I have
never been confronted by anyone (yet). But given the extremely short
time of a typical satellite pass, such an occasion would ruin the whole
thing, wouldn't it? "Sure, I'll go somewhere else now -- the whole
session lasts twelve minutes, and you've been talking to me for five."
